THOMAS CUNNINGHAM b. ca 1714 in Donegal Co., Ulster, Ireland

married about 1741 and made his permanent settlement in Frederick
Co., Virginia, 4 1/2 miles east of Winchester on Opequon Creek,
where he acquired estate of several hundred acres and where he
died Sept. 1st or 2nd in 1761 leaving a will disposing of his
personal and realty. His settlement in Virginia was made during
the early days of the white settlement of that country and at a
time when it was thoroughly infested with Indian and with whom it
was continual warfare. His children were John, Nancy, Margaret,
Thomas, and Sarah.
JOHN CUNNINGHAM b. ca. 1743 in Pennsylvania
John was quite young at the time of his father's settlement
in Frederick Co., Virginia where he grew up and lived
throughout his entire life on the homestead. He served as
a private in the Revolutionary war in Captain John Morton's
Co-4th Virginia Regiment. His name appears on payroll from
Apr. 1st to May 1st, 1777 and last appears on muster roll
dated Feb. 4, 1778 with remarks on furlough, time out Jan.
30th. He makes his will disposing of his property, dated
Mary 4, 1796 and died in Aug., 1808.
m. Elizabeth (unknown) ca. 1774. d. 1818
After Elizabeth died in 1818 all property was sold with
net proceeds were divided among the five children then
living as John, the third son, had left home a number of
years previous and went to Greenbrier Co., West Virginia.
and as nothing was ever heard from him it was thought
that he was killed by Indians, or at least, died leaving

and in 1862 to Grand Saline, Van Zandt Co., TX where he
died. They left Wise Co. because of Indian uprisings.
After the death of Calvin, the family moved to Wise Co.,
Onion Creek in Travis Co., Bell Co. where Walter Scott
and Mary Stella Davis were married 28 Dec. 1893. Their
diary indicates that they lived on school Creek, north
east of Lometa, Lampasas Co., TX. There is a reference
in 1899 that they had lived there 20 years. They lived
there until 1917 when they moved North Brown Community
north of Goldthwaite, Mills Co., Texas. The property
in Mills County was bought in 1917. There they spent
the remainder of their lives. The Mills County farm
was sold in 1945 after the death of Walter Scott.
