Written early on in the course of this web site, I don't remember the exact date, but the sentiment of needing love to part of the equation of marriage is still very strong within me. Am I wrong?
What's Love Got To Do With It?
A Gay Opinion
by R.A. Melos
Recently the Hawaiian Supreme Court ruled homosexual marriage illegal in their
state. This was a blow to the gay rights movement, yet it is very understandable,
if the Justices were using the logic that love and marriage are two different
things. Different, yet very similar for both are a state of mind.
How so? Marriage gives you a certificate stating for the world you are legally
wed, and entitled to the financial benefits of said union. If in your mind you
need the world to recognize your marriage, you shouldn't be married. No, you
shouldn't, for you are not emotionally mature enough to have earned the right
to be married. Once you are emotionally secure enough in your life, to the point
where you are mentally married to your partner, and it doesn't matter what the
rest of society tells you, you will remain faithful to your partner because
you choose to be and not because a piece of paper tells you to be, you are ready
for marriage.
Now about love. If you love someone, and choose to be faithful to that person
because you love them, you are making a mental agreement to be with that person.
Thus, you are creating a mental marriage. Now, if you seek to legalize this
union, not for financial reasons, but because you want the world to recognize
your love for this person, is your love less valid to you if the world refuses
to recognize it? If it is, again, you are not emotionally mature enough to have
earned the right of marriage.
On the other hand, if you love grows and thrives in a world of denial, if it
continues in spite of societies rejection of that love, if you care not what
society thinks for in your heart and mind that love is real and valid, your
love is real and valid. What is manifested on the Astral planes becomes real
on the mortal plain, it's only a matter of time.
I'm not saying legalized marriage doesn't have its merits, financially speaking,
but emotional marriage is what is really important. So, love has everything
to do with it, when it comes down to the pagan and hopefully gay view of marriage.
Let's hope all views of marriage are the same, or a lot of people will end up
divorced or in loveless marriages.
Oh, I guess not all views of marriage are the same. Pity.
