Palmer's Hurricane!

Ahhhh, Palmer's Hurricane, where to start? I really love this gun because of it's unique looks. The Hurricane also holds the distinction of being one of the first semi-auto paintguns ever made! For the full story go to Camille's story found at WARPIG. It will give you the skinny on how the Hurricane was born.

Here is picture of Camille. Doesn't look much like the modern Hurricane does it? Created by Glenn Palmer, of Palmer's Pursuit Shop fame, it is the father of such famous markers as the Typhoon, Stroker, and Blazer. I personally am a fan of it because it is the only paintball semiautomatic marker with a real "rifle" look. That comes from it's wooden stock, which is in turn derived from it's progenitor, the KP pump paintball rifle. Here is a pic of one:

This particular pic is of a KP-3 the last model produced, and the first KP rifle designed for CA. Please note the above pics are thumbnailed, if you would like to see the larger version, just click on them. For more info on the KP, head on over to KP Owner's Group

Even today, Palmer's will convert KP's to Hurricanes!

ALERT!!!!! Palmer's is no longer making new Hurricanes! Word from Palmers is that Sheridan has stopped making the wooden stocks. However, Palmers will convert existings KP rifles into Hurricanes. Another option is to purchase Sam Tussing's new P68 semi-auto rifle with wooden stock. Check out Tussing Enterprises for more information.....

Now for some nitty gritty; the Hurricane is just like every other semi-auto, expect for the fact it has a rifle stock as opposed to a pistol grip. This makes the handling much different. In fact, it slows down your trigger speed. Many players have complained about this, so Palmer's solution to this was the "double-trouble" trigger. Basically, the gun fires when you pull the trigger and when you release it. So this makes up for the slow firing rate. However, in my opinion, if one is going to use a rifle-like paintgun, by gum, use it like a rifle, not an SMG! Just my point of view... Anyhow, the ASA is also a little funky, seeing as how all Hurricanes come with the ASA placed under the gun, just foward of the trigger guard. This neccesitates using a remote or dealing with a bottle in a funny position...

And now for a review of the Hurricane by Sir Davicus of the Silver Knights:

"So far performance wise, the talk of the Hurricane's rate of fire being signifigantly slower than other Palmers is false. It shoots however fast you want to pull the trigger and lives up to Palmer's reputation of being very accurate. Therefore RoF is unnessasary as you hit with your first few shots. The balance of the gun with a 7oz bottle is better than it was originally with the old style craddle. Glenn Palmer rules."

Here we see a Hurricane with the stock lightened...

Here we see a pic of Joe Yaker's very milsim looking Hurricane. Notice how well the Hurricane takes to a bipod?

And here we see the very rare Nasty Hurricane, with over-and under double barrel. Be prepared to shell out the money for this one boys and girls it'll cost you!
