Ask The Students --- September ’98

This month we received quite a few entries for "Ask the Students." I have tried to include as much of the student’s work as space permits. "Ask the Students" ideally serves two purposes. First and foremost, publication in the NORE SORE and the NORE SORE Writing Award hopefully will encourage students to write simply as a goal, and booster the confidence of those that get published. For this reason, I want to publish as many entries as possible. Seeing how this is a magazine whose primary goal is the entertainment of its readers, the second goal is to provide some insight into how our students think, and to use the students as a valuable explanation tool for Japanese society. Towards this end, if anybody has a question about why Japanese do something or think in a certain way, please contact the NORE SORE and we will use it as a writing question. Remember that these questions do not have to be simple. If properly encouraged, Junior and Senior High School student are quite capable of answering questions that extend beyond "Where do you live?" and "Describe your dog."

Speaking of the NORE SORE Writing Award, I want to apologize for not sending the award out for last month’s winners. I had to leave the country very suddenly and did not get to it. This month and last month’s winner’s ALTs should have received a certificate for their student with their copy of the NORE SORE. Please contact me if you do not. Two last notes, because originality is one of the biggest factors for me, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE only send your top 5. If not, they begin to look far too much alike. And please let me know if you have corrected or help the students with their work. Thanks…

My English teacher is Miss Bobbie. She is very kind to us. So she is the most popular in my school. I like her very much. Especially, what I like her the best is to talk to us friendly. When I meet her, she talks to me. I am happy at that time.

One day when she didn’t come to the lesson, a boy said "Does she come here, doesn’t she?" . Mr. Chiyoyo said " I want her to come back here.". I hope so. And she came back here. I was glad at that time. Anyway, Miss Bobbie is the most popular in my school. And she is liked by everyone!!
