NO RE SO RE: A brief history

Once upon a time…in an Aomori far away, there was a newsletter called the Aomori AJET newsletter. A beautiful young maiden named Susan Last was editor and all the world was happy.

Then Shreek and Gillian took over. They brought their experience from editing their University Newspaper to the newsletter and brought the newsletter to new heights. But all was not perfect in the ken for long. Their controversial publication raised people's interest, but soon it raised eyebrows and then everybody started raising a fuss.

So then James McPartlan took over. He had a promising beginning editing the AAJET newsletter, but soon there was conflict and James announced his resignation in the infamous "I QUIT" Issue.

Enter Terry and Heather: two ALTs on the frigid Shimokita Peninsula. Starting from scratch, without much support, they assigned the name "DAME MOTO" to the AAJET Newsletter. "DAME MOTO" is short for the phrase "DAME DE MOTO MOTO" in Japanese, which is used when all of the odds are against you. The basic idea is that, even though the odds are not in your favor, just do it and try your best.

When we took over the newsletter as editors, it came to our attention that the title was being mis-understood as "DAME MONO" (or something that is not allowed, secret, or prohibited) and we realized that it was time for a change. Why not mark the new era of the newsletter?

After much deliberation, we have chosen the name "NO RE SO RE." Huh?, you might wonder… Nore Sore is a phrase from Tsugaru-ben, a dialect of Aomori. It means to keep trying or persevere. So in the spirit of continuing the publication that we have the privilege of inheriting, the new name of the Aomori AJET Newsletter is… (Drum Roll Please)

NO RE SO RE
