(9/11/97) BAKER _ Harold Key Baker of Calgary, passed away at home on Saturday, September 6, 1997 at the age of 81 years. He is survived by his children, sons, Verne (Alice) Baker, Charles (Susie) Baker, daughters, Lynne (Bill) Schellenberg, and a special friend Joanne; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Harold was born at Calgary on November 4, 1915. He was a Railway Clerk and a member of the Chaplehow Branch No. 284 of the Royal Canadian Legion. Harold was a loving father and a gentle man who will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. (9/11/97) BOLES _ James Foster passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital at the age of 71 years on September 9, 1997. Foster was born to Foster and Jeannette Boles in Three Hills on June 12, 1926. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Artillery to serve his country in 1944. Foster married Ellen Kaatiala in 1951 and they have resided on the family farm until his passing. Farming was the life he loved. He also enjoyed a good visit with everyone and enjoyed traveling. Foster suffered from poor health for many years. Throughout the years he had a very determined spirit and always looked on the positive side of any new problem that he faced. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Ellen; two daughters, Shirley Ann and Darrel Adam of Three Hills; two brothers, Howard (Marjorie) Boles, George (Doreen) Boles, all of Three Hills; two sisters, Margaret (Dick) Walkup of Tacoma, Wash., and Beatrice (Stan) Mellor of Edmonton; and numerous nieces and nephews, and friends. (9/11/97) CRAWFORD _ R. James (Jim) of Sardis, B.C., formerly of Calgary, passed away peacefully in Chilliwack, September 8, 1997. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Frances; his sons, James of Chilliwack, Brent of Calgary; his daughters, Lisa (Lyle) Brown of Sardis, B.C., and Heidi (Dave) Cooke of Duncan, B.C.; and his grandsons, Michael and Stephen. He is also survived by his brothers, Raymond, Bud, Gerry and his sister Peggy (Jack) Hollas. Jim was born in Picton, Ontario, May 14, 1929. He lived in Trenton where he met his wife Frances and married in 1961. In 1964, Jim and his family moved to Calgary, where he was a well-respected businessman in the construction industry until moving to British Columbia in 1994. He will be sadly missed by his wife and family. He was a devoted, loving family man that brought joy and laughter into all of their lives. She was predeceased by her husband William Ditchfield in 1979. She leaves behind three children, Traci Ward, David Ditchfield, and Zabrina Beer. (9/11/97) EVANS _ Edna, passed away in Calgary on Tuesday, September 9, 1997, at the age of 87 years. Born in Blairmore, Alberta on December 28, 1909, she grew up in the Crowsnest Pass. She attended Normal School in Calgary in 1926 and began her teaching career at the Olin Creek School, north of Cowley in 1927. She continued to live and teach in the Crowsnest Pass until moving to Calgary in 1959, where she taught mathematics and science in several schools until her retirement in 1969. Throughout her life, she pursued her interest in horse racing at Stampede Park. Another love, was travel with her close friends, with frequent visits to Las Vegas and Reno, and occasional trips to far away places including the Orient, England and Hawaii. She will be remembered as one who loved to socialize and would never turn down a good game of "Stop the Bus". She is survived by her husband Idris; son Donald, daughter-in-law Judy, and grandchildren, Corey and Stephen. (9/11/97) JESSIMAN _ Thomas Lowe Jessiman of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Agape Manor Hospice on September 7, 1997 at the age of 77 years. Born on March 6, 1920 in Winnipeg, MB. Tom joined the Royal Canadian Navy serving on several warships in the North Atlantic during World War II. After the war Tom pursued a career in management with Fiberglas Canada Limited where he took up residence in Winnipeg, Edmonton, Toronto and finally Calgary, where he retired in 1985. As a young man, Tom was revered for his fine athletic abilities, especially in the fields of speedskating, hockey, soccer and swimming. Throughout his life, Tom was an avid golf enthusiast who spent many winters in California and Florida perfecting his game. Tom's zest for life, sense of humor and charismatic personality endeared him to his many friends and family who will deeply miss him. Tom is survived by his wife Mary (nee Earl) of fifty-one years; his son John Jessiman and his wife Pat Ruby of Vancouver, BC; his daughter Jane Jessiman and her husband Bernie Bajnok of Calgary. His six grandchildren, Jesse, Andrew, Casey, Brady, Spencer and Kathleen, will forever remember their special Grandpa. Tom is also survived by three brothers, William Jessiman of Maple Ridge, BC, Duncan J. Jessiman of Winnipeg, MB, and Harvey Jessiman of Burlington, ON. (9/10/97) LONG _ Walter Bradbury, on September 9, 1997. Born February 11, 1917 in Chelsea North London, England. Immigrated with his family to Canada as a young man and settled in the Dunster area of British Columbia. Walter married Jean Kathleen Clark at Tete Jaune Cache, B.C. in 1941. Walter served in the Canadian Air Force from 1942 to 1945 retiring as a Flight Lieutenant. Walter settled briefly in Edmonton after the war before moving to Calgary where he enjoyed a long and successful career in the roofing industry. Walter retired to the Windermere area in 1985 where he was active in the Lions Club as well as enjoying golf and travel. Walter was predeceased by Jean in May of this year. He will be lovingly remembered by sons, Gary (Vickie), Gordon (Liz); grandsons, Kelsey, Bradley, Tyson and granddaughter Jaime; as well as his many friends and relatives. Melanie was predeceased by her mother Dorothea and brother Dennis. She leaves to mourn many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Friends. Melanie had a lasting influence on so many students and staff during her 20 years with the Calgary Public School Board. Graduating from the University of Calgary she started teaching Physical Education for several years, and after completing her Master degree moved into Guidance. Her infectious spirit, patience and energy for her profession go unchallenged. She touched the hearts and minds of so many family, friends, students and colleagues. Her bright smile and kind gestures have generated warmth and friendship for so long. We will truly miss you Melanie, our thoughts will be with you always. Memorial reception to be announced.

Rosina was born in San Martino al Tagliamento, Italy on February 8, 1905 and immigrated to Bellevue, Alberta in 1927 where she met and married her husband Giacomo. Rosina is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Erasmo (Mo) and Camille Pavan of Calgary; her daughter and son-in-law, Velia and Allan Graham of Sherwood Park; six grandchildren, David, Robert, Gregory, Scott, Cori and Michelle; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Giacomo in 1950. (9/11/97) RUCCI _ Mr. Biase Rucci of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Bethany Care Centre on September 9, 1997, at the age of 87 years. Biase came to Canada in 1952, first settling in Montreal, he moved to Calgary in 1953. He was a member of St. Ann's Parish and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish. Biase was a longtime employee of C.P. Rail. He will be lovingly remembered by his son and daughter-in-law, John and Irma Rucci (nee Sailer) of Calgary, as well as by grandsons, Jason and Jeffrey, all of Calgary. Biase is also remembered by his brothers, Guiseppe Rucci of Italy, and Serfino and Antonio Rucci, both of Calgary. He was predeceased by his wife of sixty-one years, Maria, in October of 1996. (9/11/97) WITNACK _ Mrs. Rayma Katherine Whitnack, beloved wife of Mr. Frank Whitnack, passed away peacefully at her home on September 7, 1997 at the age of 71 years. Rayma was born in East Florenceville, New Brunswick, August 6, 1926. She served in the W.A.C. of the R.C.A.F from 1943 - 1945. During this period she met Frank and at the end of the war they married in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, August 8, 1945, coming to Calgary shortly thereafter, where she resided for the remainder of her life. Her final day was spent with all three of her precious children, which made her very happy, and for which we will be eternally grateful. Her many loves included her family and friends, curling (she and Frank were Charter members of the Calgary Winter Club), bridge and driving her van. She will be forever remembered by daughter, Betty Boon, son-in-law Gary and their children Michael and David; son Richard Whitnack, daughter-in-law Cheryl and their children Daun and John, and son Alan Whitnack, daughter-in-law Joyce and their children Staci and Eric. Rayma also leaves behind sisters Marian Noble (Kingston, Ont) and Bette Nartub (Moncton, NB); brother Norman Smith (Olds, AB.) Wendell Smith (Manotick, Ont) and Bob Smith (Calgary); brother-in-law Ron Noble and Mervyn Martin and sisters-in-law Carolle Smith, Eva Smith, Linda Smith and Ruth Devonshire (Kingston, Ont). She also leaves behind Frank's family who became her family when they arriuved in Alberta, especially Dorothy (Dot) Whitnack who was one of her best friends. (9/11/97) YURCHEVICH _ Stephan (Steve) Yurchevich, beloved husband of Ann, passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital on September 9, 1997, at the age of 69 years. Steve was born on December 26, 1927 in Okucani, Croatia and came to Canada in 1929 with his mother and two brothers. Reunited with their father who emigrated from Croatia the previous year, the family resided in the Camrose area before moving to Calgary in 1941. Steve joined his father and brothers as a partner in NY Construction, where he was responsible for the construction of many Calgary churches and schools. Steve's leisure time was spent with his family and many friends coaching and participating in numerous sports and outdoor activities, including a very active involvement in the Calgary radio control sailplane community. Steve will be remembered for his honesty and integrity, devotion to his family, innovative craftsmanship and for his love of life. Besides his loving wife of forty-six years, Steve will also be remembered by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Louise of Vancouver, B.C.; and his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Bill of Calgary. He is survived by his brother Joseph; his sister Anne; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. Steve was predeceased by his parents, Nicholas and Juliana, and his brother John. (9/11/97) deWITTE _ Geerard (Gerry) deWitte, beloved husband of Mrs. Merina Merilyn deWitte of Calgary, passed away in Berlin, Germany as a result of complications to surgery following a jobsite accident on September 5, 1997 at the age of 50 years. Gerry was born August 2, 1947 in Barsingerhorn, North Holland, immigrating to Canada when he was five. He grew up in Moncton, New Brunswick, moving to Ontario and then to Calgary. He received his grade twelve equivalent and electronic training while serving in the Canadian Air Force. Gerry married Merina (nee Hack) on December 27, 1973. He worked in the seismic industry of the oil business for nearly twenty-five years, many of which were spent in Latin America. Gerry was an active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Besides his loving wife, Gerry is also survived by his father, Jan deWitte and his wife Shirley; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Emil and Brenda Jansen, Peter and Jane deWitte, Laurie K. Bourgeous; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Alice and Collis Batson, Nancy and Chester Tingley, and Katherine Savoie. He was predeceased by his mother Catharina deWitte van de Velde.
