ANDERSON _ Joan Patricia Anderson (nee Bowles), beloved wife of Art (Scotty) Anderson of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on Wednesday, February 4, 1998 after a lengthy illness at the age of 76 years. Joan was born September 27, 1921 in London, England and immigrated to Canada as a War Bride in 1946. She was a member of the War Brides, Thursday Afternoon Senior League Bowling Club, HMCS Tecumseh Dart Club and Curling Club, Royal Canadian Legion No. 264 Branch, Royal Canadian Naval Veterans Association. Joan enjoyed many crafts, especially knitting and will be missed by family and friends. Besides her loving husband, Joan is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene and Russel Jorgenson of Calgary, Corrine and Richard Fitoussi of Bayfield, Ontario, Donna and Larry McPhee of Kamloops, British Columbia; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. ARCHIBALD _ Mr. Ralph Guy Archibald, passed away suddenly on February 6, 1998 at the Rockyview Hospital at the age of 76 years. He leaves to mourn, his wife Doreen; his son Dresdin of Edmonton; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Ida Virtue of Devon and Courteen Brodner, and Byron of Calgary. Ralph was predeceased by his parents, Ida and Lewis Archibald, two brothers, Lewis and James, a sister Gladys and a son Warren. Ralph was born in Nanton, Alberta, January 26, 1922. The family moved to Turner Valley in 1929, where he received his education prior to four years service as a Cpl. in the R.C.A.F. instructing Aircraft Recognition at the No. 2 Wireless School. After the war he resumed working for Imperial Oil in Turner Valley before being sent to Provost to help in the Exploration of new oil fields. It was there that he met his wife Doreen. The next eight years were spent working on the drilling rigs, moving from town to town starting in Leduc in January of 1947. In 1954 he made the decision to settle down, this also brought about a career change to the Safety Department of the Oil Field. They settled in Calgary employed by Shell Canada Resources from 1955 to 1977. In 1972 he was appointed as Serving Brother in the Order of St. John of Jerusalem. After retiring from Shell he formed his own Safety Consulting firm specializing in working safe in an H2S environment. ARNOTT _ Lloyd Hampton Arnott. It is with great sorrow that his loving wife, Pat Tinevez-Arnott announces his passing, Friday, February 6, 1998 at Glenmore Park Carewest. His memory will always be cherished by Pat and his extended Tinevez' family who were privileged to surround him with care and love throughout his illness. Lloyd handled the difficult stages of cancer with his inherent patience and dignity. Both Lloyd and Pat were especially appreciative of the excellence of care given by the staff at Glenmore; also for the love and concern of special nieces and nephews, Lois and Ted Washington, and Les and Sophie Sedgewick and for all the cards, prayers and flowers from family and friends. Lloyd is survived by his sister Myrtle of Strasbourg, Sask. He was predeceased by his sister Evelyn and also by his first wife Annie Herman in 1986. Their daughter Charlotte Lynn survives. Lloyd was born in Saskatchewan. He farmed in the Kenaston and Govan areas, retiring to Calgary in the 1970's. He served in World War II with the Regina Rifle Regiment for two years in Europe, ending in Germany in 1945. He was a member of the Canadian Legion Branch 285. Members of the Legion will participate in the Memorial Service. Lloyd's request for cremation has been honored. DUBEAU _ Mary Catherine Dubeau, age 89, passed away after a brief illness at Peter Lougheed Centre on February 4, 1998. She survived her husband Delphis and is survived by one sister Margurite Petley; and brothers, Jack Chambers of Calgary, and Patrick, Joe and Bill Chambers of British Columbia; she also leaves many nephews and nieces. Mary was born in Winnipeg and as a child moved to Calgary, where she was a seamstress and drapery maker, where she held the position of manager of the Drapery department workroom at Woodward's. Mary was a devoted Catholic and belonged to the CWL over the years. During Mary's retirement years, she enjoyed spending time at the Beauchemin Parc in Millarville. She enjoyed many hours in the great outdoors. She was a longtime member of the Legion 275 where she and her husband enjoyed many hours of dancing. Mary's zest for a long, full life was due to her love of dancing. Mary will be sadly missed by her brothers and sister, and remembered for her kindness and gentle, caring attributes. KURTZ _ Ethel Mary Kurtz passed away peacefully on February 5, 1998 due to complications of pneumonia. Ethel was born on the 7th of October, 1911 in Calgary. She was predeceased by her husband Harry in 1981, her mother Betsy Ann Fyffe in 1932, her father James Fyffe in 1936, and three brothers, William Peter Fyffe and Alexander Stewart Fyffe, who both died in infancy in Kirreimuir, Scotland, and Stewart Fyffe in 1974 in Calgary. Ethel is survived by her three children, Blair (Madelene) Kurtz of Fort Macleod, Beth (Lynn) Rosenvall of Calgary, and Derald (Jeanne) Kurtz of Blanding, Utah; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren; a sister Florence Tate of Calgary; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ethel will be remembered for her love and dedication to her immediate and extended family as well as a wide circle of friends. Through much of her life, Ethel worked at the Bank of Montreal where she diligently performed her obligations as a stenographer. Her faith in her religion, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has brought her much comfort and understanding throughout her life and has often been referred to as her greatest treasure. Sincere appreciation is extended to the many compassionate caregivers at Glenmore Park Auxiliary Hospital and also many friends who showed love and concern for her. LYNCH _ Thomas Joseph Lynch, our beloved dad, grand-dad and great-grand-dad, passed away on February 4, 1998 at the age of 90 years. Tom was born in County Meath, Ireland on February 10, 1907. Tom leaves to mourn, his loving son Danny (Deanna); his daughters, Irene (Karl) and Doreen (Alan); eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister Kathleen and family in Dublin, Ireland; numerous relatives in California, England and Ireland. Tom was predeceased by his wife Lillian in 1987. Tom immigrated to Canada in 1956 and settled in Calgary. He was well-known in the hotel industry and received the "White Hatter" award for hospitality in 1985. He was a great inspiration to his family and will be sadly missed. REID _ Alexander Munro, native Calgarian, born May 23, 1918, died peacefully at the Peter Lougheed Center on February 5, 1998. Alex was employed with the City of Calgary Electric System for over thirty years. He served with the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II and was a member of the No. 264 Royal Canadian Legion and the King's Own Band. He will be remembered by his loving wife Ruth; his five sons and a daughter-in-law, Brian, Gerald, Scott, Martin, Darcy and Karin; daughter Janet; as well as three grandchildren, Simon, Amanda and Kim. Alex was predeceased by his sisters, Jean, Rose, Catherine and Iona. At Alex's request, no Funeral Service will be held. RHYNES _ Mrs. Elizabeth Rhynes, loving and loved, passed away at the Bethany Care Centre on February 6, 1998, at the age of 104 years. She was born in County Cavan, Ireland, on July 8, 1893. Elizabeth was predeceased by her beloved husband James in 1978. Elizabeth is survived by a daughter Marjorie of Calgary; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald James and Muriel of Caroline; grandchildren, Patrick and Betty of Calgary, and Vicki and John Murtha; five great-grandchildren, David and Lauren of Calgary, and Brooks, Shawna Beth and Devon of Chilliwack, B.C. She is also survived by her sister Jane Chambers, a Centurion, of Fullerton, California, and many nieces and nephews. No flowers by request of the family, and a family Memorial Service will be held at a later date. The family extends their appreciation to Dr. W. Louie, the caring staff of Second Floor Bethany Care Centre, and to Phyllis (Joe) Bourne for her long and caring relationship with her "Auntie". RILEY _ Phyllis Margaret "Grammie", aged 96 years, widow of the late Dr. R.C. Riley, passed away peacefully at the Southwood Nursing Home on February 5, 1998 at 12:10 a.m. She leaves behind her children, Pat (Jack) Waite, Bob (Eleanor) Riley and Charles Riley; her grandchildren, Rory (Wendy), Riley (Erin), Megen (Bart) de Nooy, Tyrone (Jennifer) and Sean (Jessica); great-grandchildren, Nolan, Aidan and Darrel (Sandy) Forsythe. Grammie was born in 1901 at Picton, Ontario. She attended school at the Convent of St. Aune de Belleview, Quebec. At sixteen, she entered the University of Toronto and upon graduation in 1923 was awarded the gold medal for languages. She was married September 2, 1927 at Hart House, the year they came west, first to Regina, Weyburn and Calgary in 1938. She lived a good, eventful, long life including two presidencies with the University Women's Club, a Life Time Member of the Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies, a Life Time Member of the Skyline Hikers of the Canadian Rockies. She was a longtime member of the Alliance Francaise of Calgary and she loved the mountains, and the "little house" in Banff where she spent many summers after 1941. We wish to thank all the caregivers of the Southwood Nursing Home for the many years "Grammie" was there being so tenderly looked after. SLAVKOVICH _ Alexsandra (Sonia) Slavkovich (nee Slabiev), beloved wife of the late Mr. Milan Slavkovich of Toronto, passed away at the Father Lacombe Nursing Home on February 6, 1998 at the age of 78 years. Alexsandra was born on April 3, 1919. A most loving mother of Milan Jr. (Toronto), Lena (Calgary) with her husband Peter Roxborough, and Baba to Aleksandra and James. Alexsandra left us with many fine memories of her caring and loving ways. She always had a smile and hug ready for everyone who came her way. Predeceased by her beloved husband Milan (Buca) (1981), her dear mother Paraskeva (1975), and father George Slabiev. Alexsandra is survived by two brothers, Vassia of Toronto and Vania with his wife Marion of St. Catharines, Ont. WEGEN _ Else passed away peacefully on Friday, February 6, 1998 at the age of 61 years. She was surrounded at home by her loving husband Adolf and their son Bernd. WIEBE _ Abram Frank, beloved husband of Eleanor of Calgary, passed away suddenly at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on February 6, 1998, two weeks shy of his 64th birthday. Abram is the loving father of Darcy Wiebe of Calgary, Patty (Santo) Infusino of Calgary, and Karen (Brad) Hagemann of Rimbey; and the loving grandfather of Jeremy Infusino. He is also survived by two brothers, John (Jackie) and Herman (Slim); father-in-law Alfred Hartfil; and grandmother Toews; as well as numerous family and friends. Abram is predeceased by his son Patrick, parents, Marie and Henry Wiebe, brothers, Norman and Arman (Tiny) and special niece Nicole Rempel. Dad was born in Three Hills, February 22, 1934. He spent the majority of his life in Calgary working for Lafarge Construction until his passing. He will be sadly missed by all and remembered with love. Special thanks to the I.C.U. team who tried to save him, Dr. Martin Atkinson who looked after him for twenty years and Dr. Brian Burkhart who tried to improve his quality of life.
