STORY BEHIND BEEPER ROOTER

Brenda Vandenborn is a very good personal friend of mine, some might say she is my best friend. Brenda had recently graduated from the Police Reserve Academy. She had also recently graduated and obtained her Real Estate License, becoming a full-fledged realtor. Well as everyone knows, a pager is the life blood of a successful Real Estate Agent.

One of the assignments of Reserve Officers is to direct traffic at major events in our city. Every year we have a major fair in Vancouver called the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE for short). In the States, this would be the equivalent of a State Fair.

Anyway, Brenda had just finished one tour of duty on the street and was taking a break in the Reserve trailer between shifts. She went in to make use of the washroom facilities and as she was slipping her gunbelt back on, her pager slipped off her belt and dropped right into the toilet. Unfortunately, Brenda didn't see it, until just at the very second that she flushed. Ooops.

Not wanting to lose her lifeblood, and the messages on the pager, she had a plumber come in to retrieve it for her. Unfortunately it had gotten wedged way down deep in the pipes. It necessitated the plumber dismantling a good portion of the pipes to retrieve it. She got her pager back, but the bathroom facilities were out of order for a considerable length of time.

Needless to say, Brenda was not too popular at that time with her regular Reserve colleagues.
