Story Behind Doctor Pepper
Mark Wolthers is one of our more senior beatmen working in
the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. His usual partner Pete Sadler
was temporarily teamed with another junior member of our squad.
Mark was teamed with Craig Griffiths so that Craig could gain
some valuable experience working the beat.
Well, a fight call comes in, not an unusual occurrence in
this area, and Mark and Craig headed off to see if they could
break it up. Most of the fighters departed with the arrival of
the police, but two stubborn guys kept fighting. Mark and Craig
yelled at them, tried to physically separate them, but nothing
was working. Craig decided to step up the approach by using his
pepper spray. Unfortunately, the nozzle on Craig's spray was
turned to the side. When he pressed the button, he managed to
give Mark a full stream spray right in the face.
Poor Craig! Poor Mark too! Craig felt terrible about the
incident, both because he had sprayed his partner and because
he thought maybe his partner might be angry enough to "kill"
him when his vision cleared. They talked it over and both decided
they would keep quiet about the incident. Unfortunately my spies
came through again, and here is the poem.
Oh! and I bet you wonder what happened to the fighters.
Well in all the excitement of the spraying, they just stopped
fighting and when last seen had wandered off together like a pair
of old buddies.
