STORY BEHIND THE POEM WEDDING INVITE

Trisha Dong, a rookie policewoman called
me to tell me that in her short time in the department, that she was very
impressed with my poetry. She wondered if I could do a favour for her.
She told me she was getting married on November 7th and that
she wanted something different for her invitations. Would I be interested
in trying to write a little verse for her. She gave me some basic details
like, she and her fiance met while dancing, he’s from Venezuala and that
they were going to get married and have their reception on a cruise ship
in Vancouver Harbour. She was at work and told me that she would call me
in the next few days with further details. The verse could be 14 lines
maximum.

I thought about it and decided to try
and see what I could put together with just these few details. So I got
busy and 15 minutes later I called her back and told her that the verse
was done. She seemed pretty impressed and I faxed her the initial version
of the verse you just read. She seemed pretty happy with it and is going
to show it to her family and get back to me with their decision or changes.
Hey who knows, maybe I have a new sideline business writing greeting cards
and invitations.
