STORY BEHIND THE POEM VICTIM SERVICES CITIZENS CRIME WATCH

Recently there was a combined awards night/Christmas party for the Victim Services Unit and Citizens Crime Watch. Victim Services provide a marvelous service for the citizens of Vancouver. The unit is staffed by volunteers who donate a tremendous amount of their time. One volunteer received an award for 4000 hours of time donated. A very special lady in my life received her pin for over 2000 hours of time donated in the last five years.

Citizens Crime Watch is also staffed by volunteers who donate their time as well. One member who has done it for 14 years. Members go out in their own vehicles, with a police member supervisor and provide extra eyes for the guys on the street. During the time they have been in operation they have recovered over 3000 stolen autos.

I was invited to the awards night and as a result I wanted to do something to express the thanks of myself as well as other patrol members on the street. As a result, I wrote this poem and in full dress uniform read the poem out to the assembled crowd.
