DJ Static. Plastic

Static.P started DJing in 1987 playing at parties as a mobile DJ. His first professional gig was in 1989 in a club called The Twilight Zone in Hillbrow, Johannesburg. He then worked at the Thunder Dome for 2 years after which he did a 6 months stint at Caesar's Palace nightclub. At the same time he was a guest DJ at various clubs such as Pink Cadillac, Idols, Ground Level and Da Flava to name but a few. After Caesar's Palace he got involved with setting up some of the first Rave events in the country of which the first was held at the Market Theater, in Johannesburg. Other events include Piccadilly in Yeoville, Wembley Arena in Turfontein, LSI at the Tunderdome. His most enjoyable period was at 4th World nightclub, 1992 - 1994. The club that he and fellow DJs and friends helped set up and which till today is synonymous with being the first mufti cultural, racial, techno house, everything goes night club. It was also the first real underground nightclub in South Africa.

With the close of 4th World nightclub he became actively involved with DJ Christos as they pioneered some of the first events in the Townships and Universities. The first "Bash" was held in the Community centre of Tembisa. The word spread fast from there and they set up several gigs from Medunsa, TNT, Westville, Club Gemini in Pretoria, Cape Town, Mafikeng, Mmabatho, Durban, PE, Bloemfontein, you name it. He also played in neighbouring countries like Lesotho, & Botswana. Some of the big tours he participated in included, Sony Music promotional tour of 1995 and The Sony, Radio Metro, Rhythm Nation Tour in 1996-97. During his DJ career that spans over 15 years, he also played in Greece for a short time.

In 1995 established Phat Kat Records and has produced many albums for the label, some of which include, Sharon Dee, Amaru (The Producers Cut), 2 DJs & a Keyboard Player (Sekele & Choose), Slow Jams 1, 2 & 2000, Static Plastic (his debut album), MDC, BM Fan, FOUR and Masaluta. He has also done remixes for groups such as, Light Year, Acoustic Kitchen, Citrus, and Antigravity. Current projects include Slow Jams 2001, Oracle - "Bushmusic" with its debut release, "Xeree", featured on World Moods Vol 2 as well as DeltaWaves - PhazeOne. He currently has a regular slot on YFM every Saturday between 13:00 and 13:30 where he plays some of the greatest House classics. These mixes and more are on the Mixes page. DJ Static P's real name is Petro Stathoussis and he is a qualified MCSE and Sound Engineer with 9 years experience working for the South African Broadcasting Corporation (S.A.B.C). "Static Plastic" is what he call's vinyl and is also of his Production Name.
