To watch Al falling from the roof, to watch Peggy falling into the Oprah-coma, to watch Kelly falling in love or to watch Bud falling in front of an aesthetically challenged woman, is more than just to take occasion to laugh.
"Married ... With Children" shows how people are under their skin and how life really is. As the Greek philosopher Heraclitus said: you can't imagine a thing without imagining its opposite, or more specifically as the German philosopher Hegel taught: you are not able to know the good without knowing the bad.
To hear Al craving for death penalty, to hear Peggy craving for a hug, to hear Kelly craving for money for a concert or to hear Bud craving for a date, is more than just to know "my own life is not that hopeless".
"Married ... With Children" ranges in a lot of traditional works like Nietzsche's "Thus Spoke Zarathustra". Good is bad and bad is good. Right is wrong and wrong is right. But fat is fat and slim is slim. :)
To be a fan of Al Bundy & Co. is more than just to be a fan of a TV-series.
"Married ... With Children" is probably the most modern version of Brecht's epical theater. The concept of the show uses his well-known "v-effect" as the main source for gags and a million, billion, zillion laughs.
The message is clear, simple and precise: keep
on going, do not escape and try to survive, no matter who and what you
are and what other people are thinking of you.
