Next FA Cup 20th November Bury vs Cardiff City
Next League 13th November (5PM KICKOFF)
Bury
vs Oxford United (Preview ReporT)
After coming very
close to defeat in the F A Cup, Bury will be glad to return to League
action at Oxford on saturday, albeit at the bizarre time of 5.00pm.
The late kick off is supposed to allow supporters to watch the England
game, but visiting fans would be in transit en route the Manor Ground,
so it seems likely that very few will travel, for which the Bury management
may well be grateful having been subjected to much criticism on tuesday
night. Lutel James' recovery from his broken leg may well bring a
better balance to the right flank, and the Shakers manager Neil Warnock
is expected to revert to his all out attacking policy with two wingers.
Baichung Bhutia showed an excellent touch in his brief appearance
in midweek, and was instrumental in setting up both of Bury's life
saving goals. He can expect to start but Warnock will have to chose
a partner from Paul Barnes, Andy Preece or top scorer Ian Lawson.

BURY 2-1 TAMWORTH
Billy (86) James (96) Haughton (16)
Tiny Tamworth were just four minutes
away for causing a major FA Cup upset. Leading by a 16th-minute goal
against Division Two Bury they had done everything to cover themselves
with glory ..... except to add to Warren Haughton's first-half strike.
The Dr Marten's league side were in dominant, confident mood from
the moment they had taken the lead and while Bury came out ready for
a scrap in the second half, it was Tamworth who created the better
chances, with Haughton going closest with a scorching shot which hit
the outside of the post. There was nothing in the first ten minutes
to suggest a major upset, for it was one way traffic towards the Tamworth
goal with Darren Acton soon in the action. Chris Billy produced one
memorable sliced shot, Adrian Littlejohn spooned another over the
top before a Steve Redmond rocket almost cut colleague Ian Lawson
in half. It was, therefore, completely out of the blue when the Staffordshire
side took the lead after 16 minutes. Bury were still pushing forward
when David Foy swept a long clearance through the middle between defenders
Paul Williams and Steve Redmond. Haughton sprinted in behind them,
side-stepped goalkeeper Paddy Kenny and simply rolled the ball into
an empty net. Within 90 seconds it should have been 2-0, for Mark
Hallam climbed highest to meet a Rob Mutchell corner kick but his
header was inches too high. With their tales up the Staffordshire
side gave Bury a bit of a chasing until Chris Swailes fired a warning
shot which flicked the top of the crossbar. The second half followed
a similar pattern with Bury failing to produce any fluent football
and their early blitz was more desperation than creativity. Only one
shot in three hit the target and Acton saved from Paul Barnes. Back
came Tamworth, with Haughton bringing out the best in Kenny with a
fizzing left-footer and a purple patch around the hour mark should
have been put the game beyond Bury's reach. Hallam was inches wide,
Robert Warner's free-kick rolled across the face of the goal and beyond
three pairs of lunging boots before Haughton rattled the woodwork.
It looked all over for Bury but in the 86th minute Andy Woodward swung
in a cross from the right, Chris Billy got a touch and although Acton
stretched to get his fingers to the ball he couldn't prevent it crossing
the line. Six minutes into extra-time Bury took the lead when Indian
international Baichung Bhutia, playing in his first FA Cup tie, floated
over a chance for Lutel James, who was playing his first game since
breaking a leg in mid September. The youngster spotted a gap at the
near post and drove a blistering shot past Acton. Tamworth refused
to lie down despite obvious tiredness with substitute Micky Cotter
and skipper Darren Grocutt both forcing Kenny into spectacular saves
in the dying seconds.
