YZF-R1 DYNO CHARTS AND LINKS

Most of the dyno charts dealing with exhaust systems were supplied by the exhaust system manufacturers themselves. Therefore, your actual performance gains may vary dramatically. One exception to this is the M4/Graves full system. I have this exhaust system on my R1, have been on the dyno and can verify that M4's claims of 10hp gains with 0 jetting changes and 12-14hp after jetting changes are 100% true! I would like to post some actual customer charts to verify some of the other manufacturer's claims. If you have had a R1 on the dyno, please email me your dyno charts with a full explanation of any performance mods between runs. You will be given full credit. If you are an aftermarket parts manufacturer, I would be glad to install your parts and independently verify the dyno results and give you exposure here on these pages. Thanks!

First order of business......THE PEEING DUDE. The Peeing Dude has been on this site since day 1. He's pissed on a number of things over the past year but has spent the last 9 months pissing on Motorcyclist Magazine. It's time find something new for him to piss on. I am now taking suggestions and small pics or animated .gifs for the Peeing Dude to piss on. Please be creative and send me your ideas.

1998 YAMAHA YZF-R1

My bike arrived on April 24, 1998 after an agonizing 5 1/2 month wait from when I placed my initial deposit. Pictures of my bike in the crate can be seen at the "MY YZF-R1" link on the left of this page. 1999 R1 shipments should begin hitting the USA in December so get your deposit down quick. Changes for 1999 are very minor. The graphics on the 1999 blue model have changed slightly and the red/white model has been replaced with red/white/black paint and graphics similar to the factory Yamaha race bikes. The only mechanical changes to the 1999 R1 are a revised shift linkage and a smaller fuel reserve from the exact same gas tank. The 1999 blue R1 has also been given carbon fiber-look plastic panels below the gas tank. You can bet I'll be adding those to my 98 model.

The aftermarket is in full swing with the R1 now. Just about every exhaust system manufacturer you can name has developed a slip-on and most have full systems available. Slip-on's have shown to provide and additional 2-4 hp and work best with slight jetting changes (132.5 main jets OR .020" shimmed stock needles). Full exhaust systems have proven to provide and additional 7-14 peak hp and work best with minor main jet and needle changes. Micron's jet kit has proven to perform miserably on the dyno, the jury is still out on the Dynojet kit. No additional peak hp has been found by using any manufacturer's jet kit. Dynojet claims smoother and quicker acceleration through each gear without a peak hp gain for their kit. I hope to test this claim soon. I'll be adding a link on the left of this page dealing specifically with jetting soon.

More R1 accessories are becoming available daily. From Yamaha we've seen R1 Jackets, leathers, watches, T-shirts, hats, etc. From the aftermarket we've seen R1 steering dampers, windscreens, ride-height adjusters, seats, seat skins, handlebars and more. I'll be trying to add pages for all these things in the days to come. Check out the links on the left of this page. Check back as this page will be under constant construction.

The picture archieve is here! These are some of the best R1 pics from around the world. The original spy photos, custom show R1's, and more. For some very interesting performance info, check out the Black Box link. Growing daily: All the dyno charts I can find anywhere in the world for the R1. Also, see my own R1 pictures and dyno charts.

What makes this bike the ultimate open class sportbike? Easy, 390 lbs. dry weight and a HP and torque curve that smokes the competition as seen in the graphs below courtesy of Superbike magazine. Please note that Superbike and some other European magazines use a Fuch's dyno instead of a Dynojet model 150 which is used by US magazines. This dyno measures HP at the front sprocket, not the rear wheel, therefore yielding higher numbers.

Viewed somewhere around 1,500,000 times in early 2000 before Tripod screwed up the web counter, who knows now?
