My bike arrived on April 24, 1998 after an agonizing 5 1/2 month wait
from when I placed my initial deposit. Pictures of my bike in the crate
can be seen at the "MY YZF-R1" link on the left of this page.
1999 R1 shipments should begin
hitting the USA in December so get your deposit down quick. Changes for
1999 are very minor. The graphics on the 1999 blue model have changed
slightly and the red/white model has been replaced with red/white/black
paint and graphics similar to the factory Yamaha race bikes. The only
mechanical changes to the 1999 R1 are a revised shift linkage and a
smaller fuel reserve from the exact same gas tank. The 1999 blue R1
has also been given carbon fiber-look plastic panels below the gas tank.
You can bet I'll be adding those to my 98 model.
More R1 accessories are becoming available daily. From Yamaha we've seen R1 Jackets, leathers, watches, T-shirts, hats, etc. From the aftermarket we've seen R1 steering dampers, windscreens, ride-height adjusters, seats, seat skins, handlebars and more. I'll be trying to add pages for all these things in the days to come. Check out the links on the left of this page. Check back as this page will be under constant construction.
