CHIMERA(Suzanne Mayor)
Chimera is the newest and hottest sensation in music
video creation. At twenty years old she is apprenticed to Mark Robinson, a
film producer in the same line as Video and Anthony Julian, and her conceptual
talent for art and design puts her streets ahead of other young artistic hopefuls
her age. At first linked with the Stingers, Chimera turns her back on them
after a row with Rapture, and teams up with the Misfits instead.
Chimera is the somewhat spoiled and petulant daughter
of Elizabeth Mayor, a wealthy social butterfly who has been divorced twice
and who, from her alimony payments has managed to establish a business of
her own, in nightclubs. Her father, Steven Mayor was the leader of a wild
seventies rock band called Cyclone, but he walked out on Elizabeth when Chimera
was days old, and died in a road smash when she was nine without ever having
met his daughter. Because of her mother's bad experiences with men, Chimera
is wary of relationships and prefers to flirt but not get too deeply involved.
Chimera's other relative in the series is Pizzazz, and
although neither girl knows it upon their very first encounter, Chimera soon
works out what is what when she finds out Pizzazz's real name. Despite their
relationship, however, the two girls fight like cat and dog and have no love
for each other. On Pizzazz's part this hate is built out of a jealous resentment
of the fact Chimera gets along so well with Jetta almost from the off. Pizzazz
sees her as trying to interfere in her band and her 'friendships' but, knowing
Chimera is the best at what she does, tolerates her for the sake of the Misfits'
musical propaganda.
Despite her involvement with the Misfits, Chimera refuses
to get too deeply involved in the Misfit/Hologram feud, and business often
requires her to work in tandem with Video or Anthony.
SAKURA(Kaori Ito)
Sakura is Chimera's closest ally, and despite being
the exact opposite in character, the two girls are almost like sisters. Sakura
prefers to be behind the scenes rather than showing off her talent, which
is with electronic gadgets. In this respect her help is invaluable where
Chimera's video career is concerned, so they help each other out. Sakura
is extremely shy, however, and idolises Chimera rather more than is wise
for her to do. She is exceptionally bright, and at twenty years old is also
apprenticed with Mark Robinson as a prospective technical adviser. However
her ability is such that Mark often looks to her for technological guidance
as opposed to the other way around. Like Chimera, she begins with working
on a Stingers project, but they scare her once too many, for Sakura is very
sensitive to teasing of any sort. Of the Misfits she gets along best with
Stormer, for obvious reasons. Despite her retiring nature, when roused she
can be as devious and cunning as her friend, and often gets away with it
far easier, due to her sweet disposition and innocent expressions.
Sakura is one of a family of four children, and is
of Japanese-American extraction, with family still living in Asia. As a result
she has travelled a great deal. Since Chimera puts her loyalty with the Misfits,
Sakura does likewise, although she is often intimidated by their brashness.
ALLIE (Alison Blackwell)
Allie is a member of the Tinkerbillys, Jetta's former
band before joining the Misfits. Psychotically possessive and jealous of
her boyfriend, the band's leader Snake, Allie is quick to hate Jetta, since
she can tell from the start that Snake is more than a little taken with the
sax player. However, despite often starting spats with her foe, she rarely
wins them. She has little or no musical talent and is also something of a
snob, coming from a higher echelon of society than Jetta and never letting
the other girl forget it. She revels in the fact that Jetta's brother is
in jail, and delights in tormenting her on the subject.
LAURA CUNNINGHAM
Laura is Jetta's hometown friend, and the only person
in whom she feels she can place complete trust. Though she's not as wild
in spirit as Jetta is, she's always on hand to get her friend out of any
scrape and often does the worrying for both of them! When Jetta's brother
gets her arrested for something she didn't do, it is Laura and not her parents
who go to the police station to get her out. For this reason, Laura is the
one person who Jetta does not push away, and often she confides things in
her friend that she would not talk to others about. When Jetta moves to America
Laura misses her keenly but knows it's for the best for her friend's career,
however they never forget each other and often meet up if and when the Misfits
are in England (something which becomes increasingly more frequent as it
transpires that the Misfits' popularity across the Atlantic surpasses Jem's)
Laura is the only child of a divorced couple, and lives
with her mother until she, Jetta and another friend move into a flat together.
She has a close bond with her mother, however, and despite her parental split
had a fairly happy upbringing.
SAFFRON (Meredith Allen)
Saffron is a catwalk model from San Diego. An old school
associate of Pizzazz, she has a tendency to be catty where Pizzazz is concerned.
Not from a wealthy family, Saffron has worked her way up the ladder from
the bottom to get to where she is now, and she comes back into Pizzazz's
life when she is hired to model Shana and Regine's new designs on a television
spectacular which the Misfits are also performing at. Pizzazz is insanely
jealous when she discovers how successful her old sparring partner has become
from her humble beginnings.
Though she is not fond of Pizzazz, Saffron is not a
bitchy character at heart, and befriends Stormer before she realises who
the Misfits really are. She soon proves a great favourite with the Holograms,
in particular Shana with their mutual love of fashion.
Saffron is the youngest child of a family of six, three
brothers and two sisters. Her parents are both dead, and her family mostly
work in Europe these days, since her father was English and her mother American.
Married at nineteen, she is a single mother to six year old twin girls, Cerise
and Katya, since her husband, an alcoholic womaniser walked out on her less
than a year after the wedding. Despite support from her elder sister Anne-Marie,
she is determinedly independant and a good mother.
JEREMY BURNS
You can tell by the surname which family tree he belongs
to. Jeremy is Jetta's scheming, self-centred big brother, whose scruples
are non-existant and his family loyalty even worse. Jeremy uses Jetta to
all intents and purposes, but discards her or implicates her when the going
gets tough in order to try and get himself out of trouble. Jeremy has little,
if any endearing characteristics, and it is entirely down to him and his
actions that Jetta pulls herself away from trusting the world at large. He
is not below either blackmail or threats to try and keep his sister to heel,
and has even threatened her life on the odd occasion. A generally all round
nasty guy, Jetta is usually glad to have him an ocean away and in an English
prison.
MAGIQUE(Sophie Devereux)
Magique is a young French girl who plays drums for
her own entertainment more than as a career. She is very sophisticated in
both her attitude and her attire, and she attracts Riot's attention right
away. Though she is not as good a percussionist as Raya or Craig, her charms
soon prove to be on a par with Riot's own, and she is adopted as the new
Stinger when Rapture walks out, even though Riot had already made it clear
they were looking for a guitarist.
Though she and Minx do get along, her closest bond
proves to be with Rapture once Rapture returns to the band, since Magique
has a large mischievous streak and is admiring of Rapture's cunning. Between
them they are double trouble, something Minx is sometimes envious of.
Magique also has something of a shady past, though
of the Stingers it is only Rapture who is perceptive enough to figure it
out. Back in France she was involved in various dodgy dealing which led her
to flee to America after a botched escape from prison took the life of her
husband (and partner in crime) Jacques. Adopting a false identity, Magique
alters her appearance and fakes her own drowning before quitting French shores,
in the hope of evading her pursuers. Her stage name became more of a shelter
to hide behind, and she never speaks of her past to her bandmates, preferring
the mystery and preferring not to answer questions. Though her brother tries
to talk her out of taking the gamble of being such a public figure, the temptation
to be a star is too much for her to resist.
Magique has no family except for an old aunt in Paris
whom she is strangely fond of, and her brother Stephane, who was also occasionally
involved in her and Jacques' dodgy dealing. Since her flight abroad she has
lost contact with her aunt and therefore is pretty much alone in the world
except for her brother who masquerades as her musical agent. Many people
in France believe the myth of her death, even though a body was never found...
(First picture shows her as 'Sophie', before she
flees France, second pic shows her as 'Magique of the Stingers', flirting
with Riot, something which becomes a favourite pastime of hers...)
