Deion attended North Fort Myers High School in Fort Myers, Florida. He played football, baseball, basketball, and ran track. As a senior, he was All-State First Team in football at cornerback. Offensively, he played quarterback and passed for 899 yards and ran for an additional 499. In basketball, he was Second Team All-State averaging 24 points per game. He was drafted out of high school by the Kansas City Royals in 1985. This selection was, ironically, ahead of Bo Jackson. He declined his selection, opting to go to college on a football scholarship.
