There are actually two IRA's, the C.I.R.A or Continuity IRA and the P.I.R.A known as Provisional IRA. Provisional IRA is the group we usually think of today in the campaigns of violence against British occupation in Northern Ireland. Sinn Fein is the P.I.R.A's political wing. The C.I.R.A follows the policies of Republican Sinn Fein. The C.I.R.A are against most of the peace talks and have never observed any cease fire

Are the people who are a part of the Irish Republican Army patriots or criminals?

IRA Sites:

This loyalist group has rather recently emerged and there is not much known about it. The group is led by loyalist Billy Wright. The group was banned by Northern Ireland Secretary, Dr. Mowlam. The LVF is though to be responsible for a series of violent murders against Catholics, including the murder of a taxi driver, Michael McGoldrick. In March of 1998 the LVF also admitted to planting a bomb outside St. Comgall's recreation club in Larne in County Antrim on St. Patrick's Day.

Ulster Defence Association (UDA):

Loyalist paramilitary group. The group itself, along with the Ulster Freedom Fighters has claimed that some of the murders of Catholics they have committed were based on information provided by the RUC and the British military.

Ulster Freedom Fighters (UFF):

Loyalist paramilitary group. In January of 1998, the Ulster Freedom Fighters admitted its involvement in sectarian killings in despite an official cease fire The group was accused of murdering three Roman Catholics. The UFF said it was a measured military response to provocation by Roman Catholic republican groups. The UFF said it would then return to its cease fire.

Ulster Protestant Volunteers (UPV)

Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF):

Loyalist paramilitary group. The group has been outlawed and has close ties to the Progressive Unionist Party. The UVF is known for it's sectarian murders of Catholics.
