In summer 2004 Dr. Michael Kimber moved to Iowa City with
his wife, Dr. Marian Wilson Kimber, professor of musicology in
the School of Music at the University of Iowa. He plays viola
in Orchestra Iowa and teaches viola at Coe College. He has also
been visiting professor of viola at the University of Iowa and
the University of Northern Iowa.
Formerly the viola professor at the University of Kansas and at the
University of Southern Mississippi, Dr. Kimber is also the creator
of the popular poly-pad shoulder rest for violin and viola, now in
its 27th year, and an award-winning composer of music for strings.
