Here it is!  The first genealogy software for the Windows CE platform.   Pocket Pedigree is in a Beta format and should run on most Windows CE computers.

Pocket Pedigree is the first genealogy software made for the Windows CE environment. It allows you to enter individuals' basic information (i.e. name, birth date & place, christening, death, burial, and LDS information) and export it to a GECOM file.

Update!  Finally, we have an update to the beta of Pocket Pedigree.  Let me explain some things first.  First of all Pocket Pedigree is now being programmed by two people.  Myself (Phil Hanney) and Richard Corbridge.  Richard has done tons of stuff to upgrade this program.   I am so excited to work with Richard!

First of all, Pocket Pedigree runs on Pocket C 1.28.  Download the Runtime application and install that onto your system.   Then download Pocket Pedigree and try it out!

Richard has added the capability to have up to 25 people in the memory before you send it to a GEDCOM file.  You can go back and forth to edit these individuals.  Once you quite Pocket Pedigree, though, this information is lost.  We will be working on a database feature in the future as well as being able to import GEDCOM files, but those are a ways off.

Once you save to a GEDCOM file you need to open the file in Pocket Word and then re-save it as itself in text format.  Pocket C is supposed to send this to a normal text file, but for now it is still sending extra bits between each character which will prevent you from opening the file in your genealogy program on your desktop.   Hopefully this will be worked out soon.  For now, though just open it in Pocket Word, then go into File|Save As and make sure the format is in Text (*.txt) format.   Pocket Word will ask you in a box if you in which format you want to save it.   Just say Text.  Check the file so that it doesn't have the .txt extention.   If it does, just rename it so that it has a *.ged extention.

For instance, after re-saving in Pocket Word if my file was "pbh.ged.txt" I would just rename it and delete ".txt" so my file name read "pbh.ged".

If you would like to ask questions, send comments or suggestions, please do so on the Pocket Pedigree Discussion Web.
