"Rasassination/yeah thats the name/Ima put it on a bullet/and put it in ya brain!"

Welcome To Ras' World

Do *YOU* have any info or 411 on Ras or any related artists? If so i'd really appreciate it if you dropped me an email or so, thanx in advance, Jason

1999 UPDATES:

-4/11 Ras turned up on Bootleg's new album on the Tupac tribute "Sophisticated Thug" i upped it earlier today, check it out!

-4/1 im looking for a crack for ra2wav or preferably an already cracked version all those warez headz know what im talking about...if anyone finds one on that net, email me or get ahold of my ICQ at the bottom, thanx...=)

-3/31 Str8 frum Davey D's new newsletter...UCLA is having a hip hop conference entitled POWER MOVES on May 14th-15th..I'll be on a panel called Chips, Cheddar and CREAM..which will include Ras Kass, Kierna Mayo, SPIE, Kamau Daaood and George Lipsitz.. For more info hit up my man Dusk One at 1-310-206-5500 or at http://www.diaspora.sscnet.ucla.edu

-3/27 Everyone and their mom has sent me mail on the Horsemen's new song. Still having doubts about the group? If ur at this site u probably like Ras. But think Canibus has fallen off? Think Kurupt is overrated and KP cant hang? Just peep "Abide By". Canibus has the best verse but Ras has a jewel "Me, i aint even in my prime/cuz when i write my dopest rhyme/western civilization will deline." Its done over Tha Alkaholiks' "Hip Hop Junkies" and just smells of promo material. The official first single should be called "Horse Mentality" or something like that. Canibus should be live March 30 at the Online Hip Hop Awards, and the only file i found that wasn't fucked up is what i posted from hip hop reviewz, which is a dope site with hella exclusives so go check that out if u haven't already

-3/24 Ras is up for a couple awards at Hip Hop Infinity's awards so go to http://hiphop.simplenet.com/1998Awards.htm and vote him for best beat (w/Stu B Doo on "Ghetto Fabulous"), best solo artist, & Best lyricist.

-3/12 What'd you think of the song? Send me some reviewz... anyhow some release date updates: The Corrupter SDTK (feat. Killah Priest on "5 Burroughs") and The Organized Rhymes Compilation (feat. Ras & Kborn's "So Many Days") both dropped this past tuesday. Chris Webber (yes the basketball player) is scheduled to drop next week, the first single, "Gangsta Gangsta (How U Do It)" features Kurupt. A+'s Hempstead High (which feat. Canibus on "Boys To Men"), Cool Breeze's East Point's Greatest Hit (which features Kurupt on "We Get It Crunk"), & MC Breed's Its All Good (feat. Kurupt) all drop on the 23rd. And on the 30th, Ras Kass supposedly makes a guest spot on Bootleg of the Dayton Family's Death Before Dishonesty. On April 27, Kurupt pops up on the Made Men's own self-titled album. And on May 11, he'll be on Snoops Top Dogg album.

-3/10 2nd update today....finally here is "So Many Days" by Ras Kass & K.Born.

-3/10 Apparently i didnt get this to u soon enough, but Ras Kass & Defari had a concert on March 6 in Berkely and the whole event was sponsered by Davey D, any reviews out there??....also, Ras was a member of a 4 panel discussion two weeks ago on BET Talk Live hosted by Travis Smalley. They were discussing blacks in the political scene and generation x issues. He didnt get much to say cuz the other 3 members kept hoppin' in and cuttin' the next person off from speaking their mind, especially one member who was the editor for Blaze magazine...im gonna try to have "So Many Ways" up by the end of the day, peace...

-2/28 Today as i was at the store picking up the new ones by The Roots and Eminem, i came accross a used CD called "The Union Presents...Organized Rhymes," it featured a song called "So Many Days" by Ras Kass and K.Born, and also featured people like Da 5 Footaz (dont sleep on em!!), Sticky Fingaz, Militia, AZ, Twista, Jayo Felony, Guru, King Tee, Buckshot, OC, Big L (RIP), CL Smooth, Masta Ace, Channel Live, and Jane Blaze....i should have "So Many Days" in real audio by the end of the day...oh and by the way, The Roots new one is fantastic...also pick up Prince Paul, Xzibit's got a track on that shit...

-2/17 quick gavin report, Ras is up to number 6, his "It Is What it Is" got a perfect 5/5 in this hiphop newsletter....

-2/11 2nd update: just some quick notes, first of all, the Organized Rhyme Compilation on which Ras appears, is scheduled for a March 9 release date, also Ras will appear on the new Canibus EP, (hopefully on a Four Horseman posse cut), also apearing on the album are Pharoah Monch, Common, and Rakim. I also heard that Canibus and LL are teaming up for a song, and i'll have a song Cani did with Biz Markie next update...

-2/11 Ras is back on the Gavin charts with his latest single "Rasassination" jumping from 23-10 this week. Also Xzibit appears on Defari's "Likwit Connection" which moves up 4 spots to number 6, and Killah Priest pops up on KRS-One's "Five Burroughs" which moved up from 20-12.

-2/8 Now, The Four Horsement project is underway, Kurupt says they got Dre, Daz, he also tells that he's on a new Pace Won track, as well as him and Daz (as tha dogg pound) are droppin first an EP called Aftershock then an LP called Dogg Shit both on Death Row, go to The Source.com for the entire interview...the homeboy phil hooked up some info on what saafir is up to,

here is some info i heard about saafir-- he appeared in rap pages a couple of months ago modeling some clothes and most recently is tha 'love interest' in Mya's new video...I haven't seen that ish yet, but he takes her out to a carnival, wins her prizes, and punks some dude...how he hooked up with that is a mystery....

Phil also reports that on an old (cerca 92) Battlecat 12" contains a song called "On Top Of The World" with Ras talkin bout about his teenage years kickin' it in a garage with no heater and 'the Real World does not come on MTV.' It's a slow bouncy type of track and it includes an acapella....Phil also reports that the all-star lineup from Rhettmatic's piece of shit 4 is gonna be on Rhettmatic-mixed Beat Junkies Volume 2, so u might wanna cop that...til next time, im audi...

-2/3 In ras related news, remember the track that Ras has his first major impression, "Come Widdit"? While Ras and Saafir have been prominent underground figures since the song, Ahmad has seemed to fall off the face of the earth. No longer, Call It A Comeback, is the new album on his own Look Alive Ent. coming spring 99...Canibus (Universal), Killah Priest (MCA), & Saafir (Qwest/Warner Bros.) are all supposed to drop new albums early 99. None have exact dates yet but id imagine them all around March. Thats all for now...

-2/1 Not much to say today, wanna clear a couple things up....rumor is that there *IS* a video for "H2O Proof," though i haven't seen it....in Last Emporer's "Secret Wars Vol. 1" he teams up emcees vs. comic book characters, Ras takes out Magneto...Ras has moved to NY, i been working on maintainance on the sounds, nothing is fixed yet tho....

-1/23 Check this out, i got a letter from Patchwerk@aol.com....peep:

Pretty good. Of course, you have a few cuts missing and a few cuts named wrong. Oral Sex was available on a sampler put out by BattleCat on Maverick Records. Ras also had another song on that sampler that was dope as hell, but the album never came out.
-High I.Q. is actually named 'B.Boy Scientist'
-Walk the Walk is actually named 'Walks of Life' (This is one of my all time favorites by Ras, a definite hard to find)
-Capital R-A-S is actually called 'Live From C-Arson' Ras later released another version of 'Live From C-Arson' where he is rapping over a Gina Thompson beat which was released for DJs on vinyl along with Nature of The Threat.
-Do you have all of the songs you listed. If so then that's amazing. How did you know there were two versions of 'BreathTaking'

Oh yeah, and the discography was slightly updated, and the release dates, and i changed the song names in the soundz, but im still working on getting some of them fixed....

-1/18 Wow first update in a long-ass time. Anyhow, The sounds section is kinda fucked, what happened is when i uploaded the songs i uploaded a lot of them to a seperate account, and i guess i had to update the account, and i didnt so it fucked up. I'll work out the problems ASAP....In Ras news, he moved out to NY, what does this mean? I dunno....Canibus is on the new Keith Murray album on the track "Some Shit," i'll work on updating the release dates section today...so for now, out!!

-12/28 Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays or whatever, i want you to send me your favorite 10-20 songs/albums of the year and i'll post em...anyhow this is the 6th time ive updated pretty much the same update, all i have to say is FUCK TRIPOD...First of all, Realized Records is doing some sort of benefit album for Mumia Abu-Jamal, a political prisoner sent to Death Row after shooting a cop who supposedly beat down his fellow activist brother, anyhow Ras recored the first single last Sunday along with the all-star lineup of Chuck D, Black Thought, Dres and Diamond D behind the boards, also appearing on this project are Zack De La Rocha, Aceylaone, Poor Righteous Teachers, Dilated Peoples, Medina Green, Abstract Rude, Talib Kweli, Pharoah Monch, The Pharcyde, Freestyle Fellowship, Common and poets Saul Williams (from 'Slam'), Ursula Rucker (girl from the Roots), Jerry Quickley, Mike Ladd and Nuyorican Poets Cafe Slam Champions....Another compilation in which Ras is scheduled to be a part of is called Organized Rhyme on Intersound Records, the lineup here includes AZ, Half-A-Mil, & Animal on the first single "Quiet Money" as well as stuff from Ras, Guru, Twista, Sticky Fingaz, King Tee, McGruff, CL Smooth, Masta Ace, Jayo Felony, Channel Live, Buckshot, OC, Da 5 Footaz, Jane Blaze & The Rhanjaz (from Jay Z's "If I Should Die"-fame).....recently, Xzibit was quoted as saying the Golden State Warriors Project is now called "The Golden State Project" and that its tentatively titled Pros & Cons...now onto new sounds, "Ghetto Fabulous Remix" this one doesn't featured Big Boi & Too Short as memtioned in prior updates, but it drops Ras' first verse and adds verses by 2Pac to the beginning and end, both of his verses are lifted from the original version of Bad Azz' "Ghetto Star," the 2Pac version was dropped from Bad Azz album and the song was made into a solo song after difficulties trying to clear 2Pac's appearance, too bad it was a real tight song...next as we move on, remember that song i told you about that should end up on a soundtrack with Ras, MC Shan, KRS One and Shaq? Well Shaq was replaced by God Sunz, and the song is untitled, its lyrically very nice production wise nice, Ras has the last verse and in this clip its hard to understand him as the dj keeps bringing in the "Tru Master" beat...and finally we have this Interview which smells a lot like promo material to me...now onto some Ras homies, beginning with Kurupt, this kid has been busy, if you didnt know his second video is out right now for "Gimmewhatchagot," his first single "We Can Freak It" is tearin shit up, also if you didnt know, his third single will be "Ask Yourself a Question" featuring Dr. Dre, the video will be a big-budget Seven knock-off, and if you didn't know Kurupt's got a film coming up with Left Eye of TLC. Kurupt popped up on Kid Capri's new shit on a song called "Creepin" also featuring Eightball & Too $hort, a little late for christmas peep "I Wish" by Kurupt and Daz off the Christmas Death Row album a couple years ago, Kurupt popped up also recently on Daz's Westside Mobstaz Compilation on a song called "". It also looks as if that Makaveli & Dillenger Compilation will actually come out with Kurupt spotting on the tracks "If You Cant Beat Us" (which features 2Pac, Jewell and Tha Dogg Pound), "Erase The Facez" (featuring 2Pac, Soopafly, Nate Dogg & Kurupt), "The New & Untouchablez" (w/2Pac, Tha Dogg Pound, Nate Dogg, and Tray Dee), also look for him on Cool Breeze's album East Point's Greatest Hits Volume 1, and oh yeah peep "Nigga What" a lost track from his album featuring Foxy Brown, his next Dogg Pound album title has been changed to Dogg Shit, and he'll pop up on Warren G's new album (rumored to be a double CD) Long Beach Era, i'll give u more on other homies later, its taken me long enough to get this update up...

-12/14 Updated the top 30, college course finals are over now so i should be updating more, at least until regular HS finals. Anyhow, Ras was named "Lyricist Of The Year" in Rap Pages Magazine. Of course they also named Master P "Man Of The Year" so what does that say? What is more interesting is all the funk Blaze magazine seems to be starting in the industry. First Wyclef, then Mad Rapper, and much more D-L and less-violent, Saafir. In the first issue, they had a column where they quoted dope lines and dissed lines that were historically inaccurate. They quoted a one of each from "Three Card Molley." They gave Xzibit props for "Picture yourself crushing Xzibit with your tough talk/that's like Christopher Reeve doing the crip walk," saying "Imagine the Man of Steel wheelchairing down Crenshaw Boulevard while throwing up the C to his superhero homies-or facing a Luger from Lex Luther's bloods. It's poetic blasphemy of a national hero-and we love it!" They also gave props to Redman for a verse on "Steppin It Up" off Tribe's album, then dissed Saafir for "Ripping up tracks like immigrant Chinese," saying "Chinese immigrants put down railroad tracks. They didn't rip them up. Maybe they should have, though. Low-wage labor is alwas a good reason for a riot. So are historically inaccurate rhymes." They also dissed Magoo for some line. I think its wrong to put Saafir and Magoo even on the same page, but thats just me...anyway, they also dissed his album giving it a 3/5 on beats, 2.5 on rhymes, and 2.5 of originality. Anyhow, he responded in the next issue in the "Open Mic" page. Saafir said:
Empty Rhetoric
As far as my little rap verse [check www.blaze.com to read Corey Takashi's inaugural Metaphoric Rhetoric column], first of all, fuck you Corey, whoever the fuck you are. I'll see you in traffic. I was merely speakin' on somethin' me and my grandfather was choppin' about. My great-great-grandfather was Chinese. My grandfather told me his relatives endured hardships comin' to this country and went through some savage-ass shit, but maintained their strength and mortality, stayed humble and then clicked up. But at the same time, he would get so bitter that he would literally say, 'I wish I could rip up every track that was placed and burn 'em ina bonfire." Now, I was speaking to the ones who KNEW about the Chinese struggle in Amerikkka. It was straight up me acknowledging Chinese immigrants as "ridas." Period! This is strictly to clarify that I'm an ally. Don't let a half-hip mark, who can barely see past his for five fingers with no foresight, sell you leather waffles and suede pancakes.!"
Corey responded, seemingly apoligetically...
"On 'Three Card Molly,' you rapped that you were 'ripping up tracks like imgrant Chinese.' I stated that Chinese railroad workers didn't rip up tracks. They put them down. I respect your intentions, but without mention of your grandfather, the verse is open to different readings. Thanks for clarifying.
Also, check for a new song by KRS-One, MC Shan, Ras Kass and God Sonz soon...Peace

-12/5 sorry i havent updated in a while, anyhow the top 30 was updated, i actually did update a couple times but soemthing went wrong and it didnt load. Anyhow more updates to come soon....

Now due the the fact that he is just voicing his opinion, i wont release his e-mail address, but i just thought it was an interesting entry

-11/21 Well, apparently Canibus and Ras' funk is squashed, and ol' Cani dropped down to ATL to work more on the Four Horsemen shit, supposedly Ras, Cani, and Kurupt are hyping the hell out of this shit....The second single will be "It Is What It Is" b/w "Rasassination," and Ras is working on remixes to help boost those album sales, can we hope for a remix of this single? props to Jibbah for providing info...

-11/20 Okay check it out, next Tuesday The Rza's Bobby Digital album drops, it features a song called "Handwriting On The Wall" featuring Ms. Roxy & Ras Kass. So peep that shit.

-11/18 Real quick, updated the Top 30, and added a new list of my top 50 emcees for 98.

-11/17 Go peep the Around The League section, for info on upcoming shit from all your favorite crews, if you have a favorite hip hop crew not represented let me know and i'll post their shit...

-11/17 Update still coming, but first of all for the results of the quiz, check the top 10, this week i have some new questions...

-11/15 here's that damned song i couldnt find, "One On One" off Kid Capri's shit, its Ras & Punchline, enjoy, i got a bigger update later today or tomorrow.

-11/10 album news, first of all in case you were wondering, the reason you couldnt pick up the Yukmouth album last week was cuz it got pushed back to January 26, so did A+. Canibus is officially gold, im expecting Kurupt to follow that, and possibly platinum plaques for Kurupt as "We Can Freak It" has started to blow the fuck up...Pete Rock dropped today, i picked it up, dope as hell...Kid Capri is set to drop next week...in non Ras related album news, Tupac's greatest hits drops the 24th, so does DJ Quik, and DMX & DJ Clue both drop December 15...release dates should get updated soon

-11/9 props to Phillip J Casiano for bein the first to get all three correct, again here are the questions:
1. What hip hop crew was Ras a part of when he first started out? and what song are they all on?
2. What artist was the first to have 2 cuts with Ras?
3.What famous hip hop artist did Ras put on, and onto what soundtrack?
If you can answer these, email em to me, and i'll post it in the top 10...

-11/8 Well Cabeer@aol.com was the first to reply to the quiz, he got number one halfway correct, missed number 2, and got number 3. Number 2 seems to be the toughest so far...here again are the questions:

-11/7 Well news of a new track from a forthcoming soundtrack hits us, the cut is supposed to be MC Shan featuring Ras Kass, KRS, and Shaq(??), anyhow Shan was on the radio the other day and reported this along wiht his upcoming EP....

-11/6 Well oh well, i got some real audio and then some for ya, none of it is actually Ras, its all affiliates, first of all, here's Canibus, Free and Pras off Pras' album with "Cant Stop The Shining (Rip Rock 2)", then we got these Sunz of Man cats including our homie Killah Priest with a new 4-song EP "Who Are The Sunz Of Man?" then we got "Valley Of Death", "Valley Of The Kings" and "Bring Back The Mic", HipHopSite.com is offering this EP in their store...thats all for today folks....oh wait, i got a question of the week for yall to answer, actually a couple:

-11/5 Ras was on MTV's THE CUT tonite, as one of the judges alongside Deborah Cox's fine ass and some BMG rep, they showed a little clip of "Ghetto Fabulous" at the intro. First up was Ryze, basically a female Kai, who i can tell would be big in the Bay Area, he gave em a 7.5 and admitted he didnt really know shit about R&B, then was this Backstreet Boys knock-off Nickolas who walked on stage talkin bout "his people bein opressed" and i was like WTF?? Ras gave him a 4 and i give Ras props for that, then 2 Unique a duo consisting of a country boy and one city cat, who vocally sound like, if anyone, Intro, sung a real slow jam to which Ras replied "I could see hoochies throwin they panties on the stage," then Deborah put her hand over his mouth ane he just said "dont hate me cuz im beautiful" and gave em an 8, that was pretty much the hightlight of the nite, other than watchin Left Eye shake her ass coming back from commercial breaks. Anyhow 2 Unique won, the last competitor, Sonny Bones were this radio-friendly rap-over-rock beats group, who were weak lyrically, basically a Beastie Boys-knockoff ras commented "Im from the school of hard knocks where you have to bring it lyrically and they just didnt" and he gave em a 5.....i updated the release dates...

-11/3 Yo Yo Yo...i got some Ras news for ya, apparently the Jay Z-management thing ended about 1 and a half years ago, and now Ras is managed by G-Wiz so i can kill all those damn Jay Z sounds as Ras-related, the next single will either be "Rasassination" or the remix of "All Or Nuthin" w/Twista, supposedly the beat to that one is off the hook, Ras is said to currently be working on that Four Horsemen shit, which goes against something i heard, that Kurupt was now making the Four Horsemen as him, Snoop, Nate Dogg, and Daz....Apparently the Golden State (fka Golden State Warriors) project has been put on hold, its not happening now, but it will, maybe this is because they got dropped from Aftermath, or maybe its just cuz Saafir and Xzibit have been hella busy recently, who knows? So far Rasassination has only sold around 48,000 copies, obviously a dissapointment, he also said he got an ill keychain that "it's like an AK-47 bullet w/ the Ras Kass logo on it and it says 'Rasassination'," all this he got from a Patchwerk rep, so much props to Matt Morrison for that info...going against the Four Horsemen stuff i just heard, hip hop reviewz is reporting that Bad news, it seems like the 4 Horsemen project might not happen. Turns out Canibus and Ras Kass have a little beef (maybe that's the real reason the Canibus/Ras Kass collabo never appeared on Ras' album). The beef is suppossedly on some dumb shit but either way it could cost the Horsemen project. Canibus only shouts out Killah Priest and Kurupt but no Ras, vice versa for Ras Kass' album shouts. This info also came from Patchwerk label reps.Canibus and Ras beef? Hmmm interesting...Rhettmatic's World Famous Beat Junkies Vol.2 mixtape should be out now, "3 Card Molley" is among the songs included, as well as some of my faves like Defari's "People's Choice" and Mos Def's "Universal Magnetic"...KVon and Phys Ed have a mixtape out, i would like to get my hands on it, it features a lot of exclusives, among others, Ras' "Overtime," Xzibit's "Inside Job", a downlow remix of Canibus' "Get Retarted," as well as Tash's "Bermuda Triangle," The Whoridas' new "Get Lifted," a downlow mix of The Associates "From The Ground Up," and other underground hot shit, sounds tight...thats about it for this update, anyhow, there's more to come...

< Please be patient, as i load files and prepare for the best Ras sight ever seen!
