This page is in its beginning stages, so please bear with me.
It will be some time before I can completely enter all the genealogical information I have. Some of the surnames I'm researching are Minton, Lemons, Lemoins, McKinney, Moore and Payne.

Below you will find links to many places for tracing family histories. My Adoption Page is another place to check information for searching for family information. As an adoptee, I know this is an entirely different situation that many people have no idea about. There are links on the Adoption page that can help those in the adoption triangle in knowing where to start looking.

If you know of other resources that I don't have listed, please let me know. Also let me know if you encounter a dead link! Email me at: Donna. Thank you (and a special thanks to a wonderful friend, Clouds!)

See bottom of this page to sign my guestbooks! Thanks!

(Last update on the 15th of May, 2000. Most recent update 18th of September, 2000.)

Below, you will find links to photos of some of my biological family. On November 11th, 1999, I met with my birth mother for the first time in almost 40 years. Unlike the TV shows with the emotional outbursts of family members who're meeting for the first time, neither of us seemed too emotional. I think we were both too nervous to be emotional. I know it took her (my birth mother) a while before she could actually look at me for any length of time.

Marjorie A photo of my birth mother, taken in April of 1999. She's from Waterloo, Iowa originally. Her parents were Dwight Arthur Payne and Nina Nell (nee Mabie) Payne.

Raymond Moore This is my birth father, taken in the late 1960's, in the town of Silver City, New Mexico where he lived and died. Ray's originally from Galena, Kansas; Cherokee County. Born in 1906 in "Indian Territory". His parent's names were Alvis Moore (born around 1865 in Idaho) and Georgianna (Anna) (nee Gum or Gumm) Moore (born around 1889).

Another Genealogy page I've created that contains more specific information, including census images and SSI information for Raymond Moore and family.

Ray's Mom? I'm not sure, but I think this is Ray's mother, who lived somewhere in Oklahoma (maybe Miami?). Her name was Georgia Ann (Anna) Gum (or Gumm), orginally from Carhill, Kansas; Brown County. She was 17 years old in 1906, at the time of Ray's birth. (Also to note, the name of the town is not certain but that's what it appears to be as written on Ray's Affidavit of Birth.) She and her husband, Alvis Moore of Iowa (no other information available yet) give their place of residence as "Nick City", Missouri. If anyone has ever heard of that town, PLEASE email me with the details!!
UPDATE! The photo IS of Grandma Moore, as confirmed by a cousin in Miami, OK. Grandma Moore was last known to be living in the Joplin, Missouri area in the 1940's and 1950's, where she was caring for her son, Dave, before he passed away from a heart attack.

Nina, me and my birth mother! My cousin Nina (pronounced like "N-eye-nah"....not "knee-nah"), myself and my birth mother when we all met for the very first time at the motel where I stayed. Nina, her brothers Ed and George, and my brother out in California all have an incredible sense of humor.

Leaving. This is my birth mother and Nina as they went back home for the day. It was overwhelming to actually meet them in person....but emotionally rewarding and satisfying. I am terribly happy to have had the opportunity to meet my birth mother in person!!

The links below are to my files/pedigree on Ancestry.com's site.
For Alvis Moore. Alvis would be my grandfather.

Raymond Moore. My birth father; son of Alvis.

Donna's ancestry. Just the bottom of the pedigree chart;
Birth-daughter to Raymond and Marjorie Moore.

Nancy Lemoins (Patrick). My beloved (adoptive) mom. I have lots more
information on her family but am having trouble making heads and tails
of it. Genealogy goes back to Ebenezer Minton (1760), from Rose Hill,
Virginia; Lee County.

The following photos are from my trip out west to visit my birth mother. It had been about 20 years since I was living in east Oklahoma and west Arkansas and I wanted to stop back by and see what had changed, if anything. Much has changed in the way of better roads but for the most part, the countryside looks very much the same. The bigger towns like Siloam Springs have definitely done some growing!

As I was passing through western Missouri, I decided to grab the chance to visit where I'd once lived. From Joplin, I headed south through Noel (where I worked at a chicken plant) and into Arkansas. From Siloam Springs, I headed west to Tahlequah. From there, it was on to Tulsa and then points north...into Kansas. Wow!! How flat can a place get?! LOL Saw many dead deer along the highway in Kansas and had to wonder where they hid? The winds rocked the van around, making me a little sleepy....which can be dangerous when traveling at about 85 miles an hour!! The sun didn't help either! Huge skies!

And THEN!!!! At about 95 miles away from Denver, the sky suddenly dropped away from the ground!!! What a VIEW!!!! Took my breath away!! Way off in the hazy distance, I could see the outline of the Rockies! To say I was amazed is an understatement but it's as close as I can get to describing how I felt.

I drove a little over 3,000 miles in 7 days, all by myself. I had a blast!!

The Baptist Mission Church near Watts and Westville, Oklahoma.

Mission_Historical_Marker One of two markers (this one is on the right) that says:

BAPTIST MISSION
Rev. Jesse Bushyhead settled here
in 1839 following the Cherokee re-
moval, from the east and held church
services at his home until the Baptist
Mission was established in 1841 by
Rev. Evan Jones. This site was also
one of the ration stations known as
GA-DU-MV-GA-DU or breadtown by
the Cherokees following removal.
The Cherokee National school was
founded near here in 1843 and the
Mission established a female semi-
nary the same year. The Cherokee
Messenger printed here beginning
in August, 1844, was the first peri-
odical in Oklahoma. The Mission
Station was burned during the Civil
War by the Confederates because
of the anti-slavery teaching of the
missionaries. While the Mission was
never rebuilt, the church has con-
tinued to meet. The present church
building was built in 1888.

2nd Historical Marker The other marker (on the left) that says:

ROBERT ROGERS
A sigener of the Treaty of New
Echota and grandfather of famed
Will Rogers, Robert Rogers moved
with his wife, Sally Vann, to indian
territory about 1837, and estab-
lished a home about 1 mile NW. He
was killed in 1842 in a tribal feud
as were many of the treaty signers
following the forced removal of
the Cherokees in 1838-39. He is
buried near his home site about
½ mile north and 3/4 miles west
of here. His widow later married
a Virginian, William Musgrove.

Baptist_Mission_Cemetary A view from between the markers of the sign that marks the cemetery.

A distant view Under the comforting shade of a tree, my husband rests.

Turning right after leaving the Baptist Mission Church and cemetery, heading towards Tahlequah.

29 miles to go....getting closer! *L*

The sign that welcomes everyone into Tahlequah!

That's about the long and short of the trip. The rest are photos taken through the windshield, of state signs that mark boundaries. *L* Nothing all that exciting to put up on the Net.

Return to my Adoption Page

This is the beginning of searching for both of my family's genealogy.
I'll be starting with my adopted father's side of the family right now;
with my great grandparents, William Hallows and Mary Louisa Benson.

William Hallows married Mary Louise Benson on April 24, 1883, and had 10 living children. Mary Louise was 19 years old when they married.

Clara Belle was born March 24, 1884, and died the same day.

William Otto was born July 16, 1885. He married Myrtle Smith. They had one son. He died at an early age.

Fredrick Auther was born October 13, 1889. He married Laura Patrick on April 14, 1921. They had two sons and two daughters; Fritz, Mark, Louise and Marion.

Clarence Carl was born July 7, 1893. He married May Leora Loux on August 28, 1916. They had two sons and three daughters. Elizabeth, Laura, Lee, Kenneth, Leora and James. May died on April 6, 1930. Carl married Opal (Carte) Keltner on September 24, 1935. She had a son Billy. They had two sons and one daughter; Gerald, John David, and Karen.

Luther Benson was born November 29, 1895. He married Etha Belle Houchens on January 12, 1941. She had three sons. They had two daughters and one son; Mary Lou, Mickie, and Douglas.

Ruby Leona was born Decmeber 16, 1897, and married Walter Patrick on November 25, 1920. They had two daughters and one son; Frances, Helen, and Douglas.

Victor Leonard was born August 21, 1900. He married Mary and they had one son Frank Allen. The amrriage didn't last and Frank was killed in an auto accident. Victor married Billie Traw in 1939. She had one daughter and one son, Margaret and George. They had one daughter, Ruby Victoria.

Mary Louise was born September 8, 1902. She married Roy Patrick on October 12, 1924. They had three sons and two daughters; Luther Lee, Russell Allen, Norman, Sharon, and Wanda.

The twins, Bessie Christina and Nettie Caroline, were born July 5, 1905. Nettie married George Griffith on June 29, 1929. They had no children of their own, but adopted a son, Robert and a daughter Penny Sue. Bessie married Leon Chapuis on November 2, 1929. They had three daughters and one son; Dorothy, Margaret, Virginia, and Leon.

Ruth Ann was born on January 29, 1908. She married Orval Walker on November 2, 1929. They had three sons and one daughter; Robert, Richard, Donald, and Carol.

To the best of my knowledge, the twins and Ruth Ann are still living.
