Welcome to the corner of the net that is totally devoted to Waterford United Football Club. This site is unofficial and is not connected to the club itself, the players, staff, officials or any of their relatives, the FAI or Tripod. Waterford United F.C. are returning to the Premier Division of the eircom League after clinching the First Division title for the third time in season 2002-03. They spent most of the decade in Division One having being relegated after losing a play-off to Monaghan United at Gortakeegan in May 1993. History repeated itself in May 1997, when Waterford lost a promotion play-off to Dundalk. The following year, they found the promised land, winning the 1998 First Division title. The first season back in the top flight wasn't easy, but the Blues still finished seventh. Another relegation battle ensued for the 1999/2000 season, with the Blues once more dropping into the twilight zone after losing yet another play-off - this time against local rivals Kilkenny City. But, thanks to solid foundations laid by manager Paul Power, successor Jimmy McGeough was able to lead the Blues triumphantly back into the top flight again by winning the 2002-03 First Division crown. Just don't make it a short stay this time boys! In the late sixties and early seventies, United were the team in Ireland, snapping up six League titles in eight seasons from 1966 to 1973. They also enjoyed one of the best runs ever enjoyed by an Irish club in Europe when they made it to the last 16 of the European Cup in 1971.
Perhaps the next role of this page is to provide a comprehensive archive of all that's happened at the club down through the decades. If you can provide material from the early nineties, eighties or any other time, don't hesitate to contact us
What else is here?A site for sore eyes...Can anyone help this lad? Read all about new signing Padraig Dully. The League Cup and admission prices. What's the connection? Find out! There's now another front page for BluesNet, which is a lot more plain and simple.
