28. Elisha Amidon (11.Ralph6, 5.Ralph5, 4.Roger4, 3.Roger3, 2.Philip2, 1.Roger1) born 5-Oct-1854, Greenwood, Steuben Co., New York, Baptized: 27-Jul-1911, Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints, married 22-Mar-1876, in Inland Township, Benzie Co., MI, Ada Rosa Burrows, born Abt. 1855, Baptized: 20-Apr-1892, Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints, (daughter of _____ Burrows) died 23-Sep-1926, Inland Township, Benzie Co., MI. Elisha died 26-Oct-1938, Inland Township, Benzie Co., MI. Elisha Amidon was born in the Village of Greenwood, Steuben Co., N.Y. As a youth of about thirteen years of age, he came with his widowed mother, two sisters and two brothers to Inland Township, Benzie County. He married Ada R. Burrows on March 22, 1876 at Inland Township. They lived their entire lives on their farm in Section 9, Inland Township. Family tradition has it, Elisha was bringing home a coffin for the first child who had died when he

was met by a neighbor and told to return for an additional coffin as the second child had just died. Following this tragedy, it was believed that the oldest child, Leroy would escape this child killer. However, it was not to be; Leroy sickened and died. These three children are buried at Inland Twp., Cemetery in the same lot with their mother and father. It was often told that following their deaths, the entire farmhouse required fumigation and that all the clothing, bedding and playthings these "little ones" were burned. It is difficult to comprehend the ordeal of this young father and mother during and following this traumatic experience. Ada R. Amidon, the mother, would spend hours walking by the creek that flowed about one hundr yards north of the farmhouse. The loss of young children was commonplace in those years; but this was an especially heavy load to bear. Ada: Died at home.

Andrus, born 2-Jan-1864, Michigan, died 23-Mar-1925, County Hospital, San Luis Obispo Co., CA, married (3) 21-Oct-1907, in San Diego, San Diego Co., CA, Edward S. Morehouse, born ABT 1868, died 5-Sep-1926, Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo Co., CA, married (4) 19-Sep-1933, in Reno, Washoe Co., Nevada, Emerton John Williams, born ABT 1873, died 16-Apr-1951, General Hosp. Fresno, California. Susan died 16-Jun-1938, Grand Rapids, MI.-home of brother, Ralph. During the early 1900's this family moved to California. It is uncertain if they moved as a family, or if Susan took two children and Lewis took two children. Later Lewis moved to Washington State, apparently taking two children with him. From this time on they apparently did not live together as husband and wife. However, if they were divorced a record of the divorce was not found. One can only speculate as to why there is no record of

divorce, in as much as there are three subsequent marriages for Susan (Monroe) Amidon. Despite four marriages, only one divorce was found by the original compiler of this genealogy. John: John C. Rooker was killed in an auto collision on the highway eight miles south of Santa Maria, Santa Barbara County, on 24-Nov-1934. His wife was shown as Gertrude Vanderbur Rooker. He was apparently accompanied by his son, Arthur Rooker, who was born 8-May-1915 in Montana and was 19 years, 6 months, 16 days old at the time of his death which occurred one day later on 25-Nov-1934 as a result of the same automobile collision. His parents were

listed as John C. Rooker and Jenney Schoup Rooker. The informant at the time of the death of John C. Rooker was his son, Garrett Rooker. John C. Rooker was not married to Susan Andrus Morehouse at the time of his death. Lewis: Certificate of Death shows that he was born 2-Jan-1864 in Michigan, with his mother and father shown as "unknown" except for the surname of Andrus showing in the space provided for his father. Moreover, his Certificate of Death shows that he had been in California for two years and a resident (patient) of the County Hospital for 1 year and 8 months. The name appearing on the Certificate of Death reads: "Al J. Andrus," age 61 years, 2 months and 22

days. Moreover, the same Certificate of Death shows the Informant to have been "Al. Andrus, Paso Robles, Calif." However the person who actually died was Lewis A. Andrus spouse of Susan Monroe. Apparently the informant, his son, Alva J. Andrus, w listed as the person who died along with being the informant.
