They as well as their parents were born in Virginia. Living with them was their grandson Geo E. Ryan (aged 9). Geo was born in Iowa, his father in Illinois and his mother in Ireland. Served was a Private in Company A. 12th Regiment Wisconsin Volunteers during the Civil War, under Captain Chas. Reynolds.

The 12th rendezvoused at Camp Randall, Madison Wis., Oct 28, 1861. Left there Jan. 11, '62 for Weston, Mo., at which place they arrived Jan. 16. Feb. 15, they started on their march for Leavenworth, Kansas, and went into camp near the Fort at that place; left there Mar. 1, for Fort Scott from which place they started Feb. 27, on their march for Lawrence, where they arrived Apr. 2. On the 20th set out for Fort Riley and arrived there the 25th. May 18, the "Great Southwestern Expedition" having been abandoned, they were ordered back to Leavenworth and arrived there May 27, having accomplished a march of 527 miles. Left there for St. Louis, on the 29th where after a short stay they embarked for Columbus Ky, and arrived there June 2?. They were then engaged repairing the Mobile and Ohio R.R. which the rebels had destroyed in their retreat. Went to Humbolt, Tenn, Jul 9. Part of the Reg't being mounted here they were very efficient among the guerillas infesting that section. They went to Bolivar, Tenn, Oct 1, and were attached to the 3d Brig. 4th Div. 17th A.C., with which command they continued through all the military exploits at and around Vicksburg. After becoming veterans in Jan. 1864, and enjoying a furlough with their friends at home they again rejoined their command and participated in all the battles and marches of Gen. Sherman's unequalled campaigns from Chattanooga, Tenn; to Raleigh, N.C. at which place they arrived Apr. 15, 1865. From there, after the surrender of Gen. Johnston, they returned to Washington, and participated in the Grand Review. From there went to Louisville, and then to Madison, Wis.

Lovina's birthplace is uncertain. The 1850, 1870 and 1880 Grant Co., Wisconsin census shows Virginia. According to Dorothy Pierritz she was born in Saunemin, Illinois. According to Mrs. James Beaver she was born in Illinois.

Lovina's maiden name is uncertain. Notes from Dorothy Pierritz show "Kessler", born in Aurbon, Illinois. Family group sheet prepared by Ruth Taylor shows "Weisman", the "Indian Lady".

In 1850, 29 August, Lovina Warmick (aged 34) was living in Grant Co., Wisconsin with her husband. Lovina were born in Virginia. Lovina could not read or write.10

In 1905, Vir. Hinman (aged 53) was living in Harrison, Grant Co., Wisconsin with her children Mathew M. (son aged 34), James R. (son aged 32), Otis Ch. (son aged 24), Leroy F. (son aged 22), Harry J. (son aged 18), Edna M. (dau aged 16) and Juna B. (dau aged 13). Vir. owned her own farm free of mortgage. She was born in Wisconsin and her parents were born in Illinois. All of the children were born in Wisconsin and were single. Mathew was a farmer and the other sons were farm laborers.23

In 1920, 13 January, Virginia Manuell (aged 68) was living in Platteville City, Platteville Twp, Grant Co., Wisconsin. She was born in Wisconsin, her father in Virginia and her mother in Illinois. She could read and write. She was widowed. Also living with her were grandson Richard C. Manuell (aged 10), grandson Mory O. Manuell (aged 8) and grandaughter Marrion M. (aged 6). They were born in Washington and their parent in Wisconsin.24

Virginia Elizabeth Womack Manuel died at Spring Valley, Wisconsin. She had been keeping house for her son and his motherless children. (Their mother had died.) Virginia was born 13 June, 1852 and married Richard Manuel 16 May 1870. (25 , June 1925)

T. was a farmer and Virginia was keeping house. R. T.'s parents were born in England. Virginia's parents were born in Virginia. Living with them was a nephew, G. E. Hull (aged 3) who was born in Wisconsin, as were his parents.21

In 1885, 2 June, Rich T. was living in the town of Platteville. In the household were 7 males and 3 females. All were born in the U.S.22

In 1894, 23 April, Richard T. Manuel died in Platteville, Grant Co., Wisconsin. He was 44 years old and was a farmer. He died of exhaustion produced by Lupus. He was buried in Whig Cem, Grant Co., Wisconsin. He was born April 16, 1850 in Platteville, Grant Co., Wisconsin.1

Charles "Charlie" Henry Womack and Mary Catherine "Kate" B. Womack. With Their four children, James "Jim", Guerdon, Virgil and Agnes, had a family musical talent. They played for weddings, dances around the community of Platteville, WI. My mother (Agnes) could play all types of key boards, as well as her three brothers who could play any string instrument and horn. Agnes parent's were also as musically talented as their children were. Agnes father played many string instruments and her mother played the key board. This information was presented to me by my mother "Agnes". My father Robert met my mother Agnes at a house dance in 1931, at Platteville, WI. Robert Guerdon Hughes was a square dance caller at the dances where mu mothers family played music. Agnes Marie Womack and Robert were married April 22, 1932 in Lancaster, Grant Co., WI. Agnes father "Charlie" died from colon cancer. Her mother "Kate" died from diabetes complications. Agnes also died from diabetes complications. Robert Guerdon Hughes died from a heart attack.

Mr. James A. Womack, 69, former Platteville resident now of Clinton, IA., died Friday, Sept 14, 1973, at home in Clinton after a brief illness.

Mr. Womack was born in Platteville Jan. 16, 1904. He received his education in the Platteville Public Schools. He then lived in Rockford, Ill., and in Coal City, Ill., and was employed at the Joliet Arsenal. Mr. Womack married the former Mary Green in 1948. He was a member of the Royal Order of Moose.

Surviving are three sons, James, Coal City, Ill., Russell, Peru, Ill., and Lincoln,

Streator, Ill.; four daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Mary Ann) Kyle, Pocotello, Idaho., Mrs. Raymond Wakeman and Mrs. Edith Nelson, Coal City, Ill., and Mrs. Ray (Veronica) Jones, Anderson, S.C.; one sister, Mrs. Agnes Hughes, Camanche, IA.; 20 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at the Mergen Funeral Home with the Rev, Lambert Marx pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, officiating. Burial was at the Calvery Cemetery.

Virgil P. Womack, age 50, of Rt. 3, Potosi, passed away at his home. Death was due to a heart attack.

Mr. Womack was born in Platteville, Oct. 13, 1912 and resided here until two years ago when he moved to Potosi. He was employed in the zinc mines.

Survivors are his wife, the former Ester Cummins; three daughters, Mrs. Clarence Sandry, Cuba City; Mrs. John Jackson, Galena, Ill., and Pamela Womack at home; one son, Charles Womack, Racine; eleven grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Guerdon Hughes, Clinton, Iowa; one brother, James Womack, Coal City, Ill.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 Friday afternoon in the Thomas Funeral Home. Rev. Richard Chartier, Pastor Congregational Church, officiated. Burial was made in Platteville Greenwood Cemetery.
