My Brother in law got me started in Traditional Archery six years ago. The first bow that I bought was a Bear Compound, which I shot Traditionaly. That bow did'nt last long though when I saw my first Recurve! It was amazing to me and I had to have one! It was a Hoyt takedown HUNTMASTER! A 58' bow at 60 pounds pull! I bought it at a local archery shop for 160.00, along with a leather armguard and shooting glove. For the next year or so I stump shot that bow to death! I took it hunting every chance I got, sometimes with success sometimes not. But it wasn't about the hunt, sure I love hunting, but just being in the outdoors shooting at this leaf pile, or that tree stump, made it all worth while! That bow has paid for itself over and over again since I have bought it. And the friends I have made and the endless hours of practice in the back yard just talkin bows with my brother in law Billy, are un-replaceable in my heart! I do love stick bows and thats what I hunt with, but I don't take anything away from a compound shooter either! We are all bowhunters whether it is Hi-Tech or Traditional, hunting an animal with a bow and arrow is definetly in a class by itself.
