John Bolton

 

Dear Sirs,

My name is John Bolton. Due to a recent death in my family, I am currently researching and compiling my family tree. I have come across information that my Mother grew up with a boy in Beacon, NY named John Jay Bennett. Though he was not a member of our family, his name and his story have become part of our family history concerning Viet Nam. The only information I have been able to find is some very general info regarding his service which I have pasted below. I am asking how I could go about finding his wife's name and information regarding the accident which caused his death. Any information or suggestions are greatly appreciated and would mean a great deal to me and my family. Here is the information I have found:

BEACON, NY - DUCHESS COUNTY, NY 

DIED ON 02 MAR 70 SOUTH VIETNAM NON-HOSTILE DIED-OTHER

Lived on the same street (Barrett Place, Beacon, NY) as Alice R. Hoffart.

John Jay Bennett was a specialist 5th class, pay grade E5 in the regular US Army. He served with the 1st Signal Brigade. He was 23 years old and married when he died.

He was born on May 4, 1946.

His tour of duty in Viet Nam began on January 21, 1969.

On March 2, 1970, in Duyen Duc, South Viet Nam in a non-hostile accident on the ground he died. His body was recovered.

His religion was Roman Catholic. His name is on the Maya Lin wall Panel 13W Line 73.
