3G Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) is a 14 bed unit specializing in the care of patients requiring comprehensive treatment following major surgical procedures. Our patient population includes: neurosurgery, trauma, cardiac, vascualr, surgical oncology, and general surgery. Patient care activites include thorough assessment, provision of therapy, monitoring, reassessment and reevaluation of the patient's response to treatment. Advanced monitoring devices include: EKG, Swan-Ganz catheters, end tidal CO2, ventriculostomies, temporary pacemakers, IABP, and CVVH.

Responsible for all clinical issues and staff education/inservices. Clinical Supervisor - Provides clinical and administrative coverage during off shifts and weekends for multiple nursing units. Responsible for making patient assignments, coordinating shift-based activities for the smooth operations of the unit. The Triage role is another component of the resource nurses' responsibility on 3G. In collaboration with the Triage Intensivist, the resource nurse is responsible for the coordination of all admissions and transfers into and out of the ICU system.
