Christmas Teddy Project

You will need:
Small squares of polymer clay in the following colors:
.....Dark brown, light brown, red, white. OR, you may use
.....White clay and then paint it with acrylic paints in these same colors.
Black magic marker or black glass indian beads.
Large hatpin to cut out the clay.
Bar clip (to make the bear into a pin) or magnet strip (to make it a magnet).

First print out all the instructions and read them carefully before you begin.

Cut out the template parts.

Use a dowel to roll the dark brown clay to about a 1/4 inch thickness or use a heavey book to flatten the clay to 1/4 inch thickness.

Put the bottom template on the clay and cut it out. Cut out all pieces that will be dark brown.

Roll out the other colors and cut out the other parts.

Out of the dark brown clay, make a ball about half the size shown in the pattern. Flatten it on the bottom clay template where the head should be. Do the same with all the other parts, using the pattern to guide you as to how large the clay pieces should be and the shapes of them.

Don't forget to cut out the muzzle from lighter brown clay and press it gently onto the bear's face.

After all your pieces are cut and placed on the bottom clay template, cut the hat out of red clay. Fold it to form a cone (and put the seam in the back. Fold the top of the hat down. Press the whole hat gently onto the bear's head.

Cut the fur strip and the fur ball out of the white clay. Arrange the fur strip around the bottom of the hat and the ball on the tip of the hat.

Using your hatpin, prick the fur ball and strip all over to make it look like fur.

Before baking, push the black glass indian beads into the clay for the eyes and nose

Once your bear is completely assembled, bake him on a foil covered cookie sheet. Cover him gently with a piece of foil for even heating and bake at 245 degrees for about 45 minutes.

REMEMBER...THE GREATEST TOOL YOU HAVE IS YOUR IMAGINATION. SPRUCE UP YOUR BEAR WITH A CLAY CANDY CANE OR A PIECE OF RED RIBBON TIED IN A BOW. GIVE HIM COLORFUL GLASS "BUTTONS" WITH SOME OF YOUR GLASS INDIAN BEADS. TIE A BELL AROUND HIS NECK....ETC.

Once your bear is baked and cooled, glue your bar pin or magnet strip to the back. Paint a smiling mouth on him with your black marker....and ENJOY!
