GETTIN' EVIL - GEOFF ACHISON AND THE SOULDIGGERS
After the first minute of listening to this 1999 release from Geoff Achison and The Souldiggers I realised I was in for some of the hottest blues around. One thing's for sure, the sounds that pour from " Gettin Evil " outclass the majority of Blues Albums released in 1999.
This Album is in the class of great albums such as Spectrum's, " Spectrum Plays The Blues " Eric Clapton's " From The Cradle ", B.B. King's " Blues On The Bayou ", Bob Dylan's " Time Out Of Mind " and Gordon Waller's " Race With Destiny".
Geoff Achison and Ten of the best Musicians came together to release this fine album which is full of groove and freshness. The solid rhythms of these well crafted songs carry this album with great ease, while subtle jazzy undertones and syncopation's flicker away, adding spice and diversity.
The album is full of fantastic sounds that gel perfectly with a rich voice laden with Timbre. Many voices are highlighted with sprinklings of Timbre, and whether Achison is wailing away in a gravely style, or hitting the high notes, this elusive quality of Timbre is always shining.
I cannot submit an ounce of ill criticism towards this release. The musicianship is consumate, and everything is so well put in place. Geoff Achison has deservedly attained a string of " as good as they get " credits. 13 great tunes that will make any Blues Collection lots healthier. Al Smith 2000
