Mark was born in Australian from a Croatian parents, and he
was called Mark Bosnic, but childhood abuse made him change his
name to Bosnich, to make it sound more
Australian. He wanted to become a goalkeeper, and got in Australian
Junior team at 12. He was spotted by Manchester United, which
arrange him to come over and spend three years in education while
playing for Manchester United youth team.
He only managed three appearances for Manchester United. He played for Australia U19 and help them to reach the semi-final for World Youth Championship. He was then forced to leave Manchester United due to work permit problems.
Mark originally came to England to play for Manchester United but he was forced to return to Australia after failing to receive a work permit. He soon returned and joined Villa from Sydney Croatia SFC in February 1992 making his first team debut in April 1992 against Luton.
'Bozzie' is the Australian national keeper. Mark scored his first ever goal in any competition for the Australian national team in a World Cup qualifying game against the Soloman Islands - a penalty in their 13-0 win.
In the 1993-94 league cup, when they faced Tranmere Rovers in the semis, the second leg at Villa Park, the game went into penalty shoot-out, and Bosnich saved no less than 4 of Tranmere's spot kicks. Peter Schmeichel, Man Utd's Danish national keeper has named him "best goalkeeper in the world", so few doubt his abilities now. He marked his European football debut, by saving his first penalty for Villa against Brazilian superstar Bebeto of Deportivo La Coruna.
In the 1995-6 Bosnich had an impressive 21 clean sheet in 51 games. Mark can handle crosses so well he jumps and catches the cross near the line of the penalty area, to prove his authority. When he is confident and in form, he is breathtaking to watch.
Mark Bosnich has scored a goal from a penalty when Australia was winning 12-0 against the Solomon Islands to made it 13-0 for Australia. For Australia Mark had an incredible record of ten clean sheet in seventeen matches and he also score one goal for Australia so far. He is the most capped goalkeeper in Villa's history.
Mark Bosnich has been in impressive form this season with seven clean sheet in sixteen matches. He has been unbeaten in UEFA Cup for 370 minutes until Athletic Bilbao's Gonzalez score. Recently Mark Bosnich has kept his 50th clean sheet for Villa in 146 league matches. His record so far is 85 clean sheet in 220 matches for Aston Villa, which is an excellent record for a goalkeeper.
During his time at Villa Park he has won two Coca-Cola Cup Winners medals and has built a reputation as one of the best keepers in the Premiership. The 1993-94 season was arguably his best in England as a series of outstanding performances, including an amazing eight penalty saves, saw him named as the Villa Player of the Year.
He has now signed a contract with Manchester United for a free transfer under the Bosman ruling. Lets hope that Bosnich can keep his good form and perform well for Manchester United as he has done in the past five years for Manchester United.
