Welcome to my Surname Interests Home Page. My name is Alison, and I've been tracing Family Tree for about 6 years, on both branches of my family.

My father's surname was HARGREAVES, and his direct ancestors lived in and around Burnley, Lancashire, in the C19th, mainly working in the cotton industry. His mother's maiden surname was WHITTAKER - again C19th Burnley, same cotton industry trades. I'm also looking for connections with the surname of LORD in and around Rochdale, Lancs. My Gr Grandmother - Sarah Alice LORD - was born illegitimate in 1876, and was possibly 'adopted' by a close family, in Rochdale (possibly named GARSIDE). Unable to find her on the 1881 Census.

Other surnames being researched on my paternal side are:
STANWORTH, DUXBERRY, WALTON and HAYHURST - all in Lancashire.

My mother's maiden name was DIDYMUS, and I am looking for all references to this surname, both in the UK (found mainly in Hampshire) and Worldwide. In the C19th, the Didymus's were mainly Ag Labs and Mariners, and I would like to find out how and where this unusual surname originated.

Other surnames being researched on my maternal side are:
TUBB, BAILEY (or BAYLEY), and WOODGATE - all in the areas between Southampton and Portsmouth in Hampshire.

Also researching - GARLAND (Hampshire and Somerset) and CRABB (Dorset).

Any information on any of the above surnames would be gladly received.
