We were not able to take a honeymoon immediately after the wedding because we wanted to spend a few days with our families. Angelo had also just changed jobs and did not have a lot of vacation time...

We decided that we did however deserve a few days to call our "honeymoon" and so we made plans to take advantage of the July 4th weekend and go to sunny Florida and spend some days playing tourist in Miami.

We left on the 30th of June and came back July 4th evening.... the flights both ways were delayed by over an hour! We did not enjoy that... but the honeymoon was great! We rented a Sunfire coupe to get us around and we were all set for this adveture we called our "HONEYMOON"!

In Miami, we stayed at North Beach in a small hotel that overlooked the ocean. The view was beautiful but the sea was off limits.... there was some kind of contamination of the ocean and so there were "No Swimming" notices posted all over the beach. Oh well! there lots of other things to do and see.

On the first, we visited the Biscayne National Park. The park is primarily an underwater park and offers glassbottom boat rides, snorkelling and diving. We took the glass bottom boat tour. It was truly beautiful and we even visited with a couple of dolphins for a while.... we saw some pretty interesting coral reef and colorful fish and heard a few interesting stories about pirates and buried treasure from our park ranger. There are also supposed to be manatees in the park waters but we did not see any that day.

The same day we also decided to visit the Coral Castle. This monument to love built by Ed Leedskalnin and was his fantasy world carved out of stone. Built by one man who was jilted by his fiance... it is truly a marvel...and was built using nothing but home made tools from junk parts.

On the 2nd, we visited the Gator Park. We took an airboat ride through the everglades and visited with the gators and other wildlife that call the Florida Everglades home.... We even stepped into the water when we were assured by our guide that the gators and snakes don't come out till dark. We spent some time at their small zoo of colorful parrots, turtles, and wild hens... watched a guy playing with the gators and peeked into the Indian tepee.... Lunch was fried frogs legs.

On the 3rd, we drove to the Keys and visited Key West. Here we walked to the Southernmost point; on the way we passed the Lighthouse museum, peeked into the home of Ernest Hemingway. At the Southernmost point we took some pictures and drank water straight from Coconuts. We then headed back to the where we scheduled to start our snorkelling trip. The trip was great and the waters warm and clear. We spent around an hour in the water and then headed back. After lunch at the famous Sloppy Joes we headed back to Miami

On the 4th we drove to the Key Biscayne and later visited Vizcaya, home of the late industrialist, John Deering. Deering’s 34-room Italian-Renaissance-style home is constructed around a central courtyard and was completed in 1916. It is furnished with antique furniture and artwork from the 15th to 19th centuries. Outside are the formal Italian gardens which cover more than 10 acres with beautiful plants, dramatic fountains and statuary.

We also visited the Barnacle State Historical Site where they were having tours of a historic home. The house is the oldest home in Dade County in its original location and was home to pioneer boat designer Ralph Middleton Munroe.

I have since put together a scrap book on these days and who knows.... maybe one day I will even have pictures of the scrap book up!
