Angela Allen
Beauty and the Beast and Thensome!

Hi everyone! I'm Angela, but you may call me Angie if you like. Click here for more about me plus links to my other sites- About Me Welcome to my Beauty and the Beast page- devoted to one of Disney's best animated features and the Broadway version of it in particular! After being on hiatus for nearly a year, it's finally been updated! Beauty and the Beast the animated film was first released on Nov. 22, 1991- the year I was 10 years old. It is the story of a beautiful young woman named Belle who imprisoned by a monsterous beast who is really a prince under a spell. Belle must learn to love the Beast in order for the enchantment to be broken. The story has been told numerous times in countless versions, but none that I've seen or read have been as wonderful to me as the Disney version. Those who worked on this movie created many new story ideas for this tale that had never been seen in any other version. Instead of being alone, the Beast is accompanied by servants in the form of enchanted objects also under the spell. The rose of the original tale has a new function- it's now an enchanted rose that works as an hourglass reminding the Beast of his impending doom.

The Broadway Show!

Beautiful and Beastly Links!
The Broadway version of Beauty and the Beast is one of the most amazing shows I've ever seen! I saw the show in Los Angeles on July 5, 1995 with most of the original principal cast. The sets, the costumes, the performances... breathtaking! (Ok, I'm biased because I happen to love Disney and the movie version- so sue me.) My biggest dream in the world is to one day play Belle in that show. I've already started voice lessons and theater classes. Broadway rules!!

The Broadway show adds 6 new songs to the already fantastic score of the movie- "No Matter What"- sung by Belle and Maurice, further develops the loving relationship between father and daughter, "Me" sung by Belle and Gaston, a hilarious song in which Gaston proposes to Belle and literally tries to drag her away- that scene had me in stiches! "Home" sung by Belle after being imprision, a heartfelt song dealing with Belle's lowest emotional point in the story- beautiful melody, "How Long Must This Go On", sung by the Beast after Belle's refusal to come to dinner when he sees her in the mirror saying she wants nothing to do with him, "If I Can't Love Her" sung by the Beast after he drives Belle away and realizes what he's done- one of the best songs in the show, a tearjerker, "Human Again" sung by the objects as their hopes of the spell being broken rise- this song was written for the movie but not used- however there are rumors going around that the song is being animated for the movie's next theatrical release, and finally, "Maison des Lunes" sung by Gaston, Le Fou, and Monsieur D'Argue of the assylm as Gaston plots to put Maurice away unless Belle agrees to marry him- another great tune.

The orginal principle cast of this show was as follows:

Belle Susan Egan (check my "About Me" page for a link to my tribute to Susan)
Beast Terrence Mann
Maurice Tom Bosley
Gaston Burke Moses
Lumiere Gary Beach
Mrs. Potts Beth Fowler
Cogsworth Heath Lamberts
