Cobra is the code name of one of the most powerful terrorist organizations in the world. A terrorist organization determined to rule the world. It was founded by a man simply known to the general public as Cobra Commander. In recent years it claimed a newly formed island in the Carribean with a cobra flag, and established itself as a legitimate and completely independant nation with embassies in various countrys including one in New York. Cobra Island's main export of course, is top grade terrorist and military weapons. Cobra is also funded by a series of front companys owned by Cobra Comander that operate under the name Arbco. Cobra is constantly monitored and kept in check by the US Special Forces unit known as G.I. Joe, which it has repeatedly attmepted to destroy.
Cobra primarily recruits criminals, terrorists and corrupt mercenaries to fill its ranks which are generally given about as much consideration by the leaders of the Cobra organization as cannon foder gets. The main incentive for working for Cobra is the excellent pay and benefits and freedom from paying taxes, but most members of Cobra are insane killers anyway. That is not to say that Cobra has any shortage of talented specialists or highly trained commandos, because their ranks are littered with ingenious scientists and technicians and some of the deadliest warriors on the planet. Like I said, they pay well.
Cobra soldiers are the typical foot soldiers and grunts of the Cobra organization. Vipers are more highly trained and better equiped and are sent on missions of greateer importance than the cannon fodder soldiers. Techno-Vipers and Tele-Vipers are present at almost any Cobra operation and tend to do more of the behind the scenes technical and communications work than they do actual fighting. The most highly trained and efficient sodiers in the Cobra organization are the Crinsom Guard which serve as Cobra Commander's personal body guards but are also sent on the most vital of missions including espionage missions.
