My bowling career. I started bowling about 11 years ago.I was 12 years old back then. Actually, the first time I threw the bowling ball was when I was 6-7 years old. That was in Ampang Bowl along jalan Ampang. Now that the place is closed down and the Petronas Twin Tower took over it's place, Pyramid Bowl in Sunway Pyramid, became my training center. The first time when I really get into the game was when Holiday Villa Club in Subang Jaya opened a new 10-Lanes bowling center. At that time it's only open to members and the hotel guest.So.... that means I could not bowl without a member friend. Guess what, my dad really supports me with bowling that he offered us to stay in the hotel for a night just so I could bowl eventhough our house is less then a kilometer away.Weired but I really thank my dad for supporting me with this game. He would do anything so that I could be a champion or maybe a world champion one day. Finally, my dad registered to be a member of the club. Now we don't have to stay at the hotel anymore. We can walk in anytime we want and bowl as many games as we want. One fine day, as I was bowling my usual 'practise', I was spotted by the national bowling coach at that time Mr Allan Lee. He offered me to start training with him in Shah Alam twice a week under Majlis Sukan Negara Youth Program. What else...an offer I could not refuse. So the very next week,I began my first training under the MSN squad. That was when I met some of the big names now like Shalin Zulkifli and Azidi Ameran. At that time, Zamri Ismail and Radin Azlan was one of the best youth bowlers in Malaysia. Training went one for me for days, weeks, months and years. Tournament after tournament. A year later, I won my first tournament. It was the Malaysian Open Championship Men's 'B' Graded final. I was 14 and I guess I was the youngest ever to win a senior category finals. If I win the youth catagory it would be superb but winning the senior category?....wow. Far out! Imagine...first time in my life bowling in the finals...and I won. Until today I could not forget that moment. And until today... the second place finisher still won't talk to me (hahaha). I don't know why but I guess it's becoz he was leading all the way from the start. I caught up with him within the last 3 games. (we had to bowl 15 games). I bowled the highest score of the tournament, 279. After that game, I was on my way to my victory. From that moment on...I knew that bowling is going to be my career... for the rest of my life. |
