Browns sign Free Agent defensive tackle Jurkovic, add a kicker, too
3/25.... After approximately 3 weeks of inactivity the Browns have signed a bonefide run-stopper and even brought in a kicker. With today's signing of former Jacksonville defensive tackle John Jurkovic, the Browns have addressed and significally improved their defensive line. In other news today, the Browns signed placekicker Phil Dawson, off the Patriots practice roster. Dawson a rookie out of Texas has a strong leg and has the opportunity to make it in Cleveland.

Browns add another ex-49er.........
3/4....The Browns have added another piece to the puzzle by signing free agent running back Terry Kirby. Kirby, a 6 year veteran is widely regarded as one of the better pass catching backs in the league. The Browns have told Kirby he will have the opportunity to start.

Free Agency good to the Browns, 2 key players sign
3/3....The Browns have made two more key signings towards fielding a team in 1999. Today, the Browns have signed OL Lomas Brown and defensive back Marquez Pope. Brown immediately brings experience and leadership to an already experienced, young offensive line. Brown is a 14 year veteran and a numerous time pro-bowl player. Pope on the other hand comes to Cleveland and will be switching positions. He was a safety early in his career, but was switched to cornerback when he signed with the 49ers in 1995. Pope is a talented defensive back that will bring stability and experience to the defensive backfield.

Browns sign John Thierry
2/25....The Browns have signed former Chicago Bears defensive end John Thierry. Thierry a former #1 pick of the Bears played in Chicago for 5 years. Browns defensive coordinator Bob Slowik was the defensive coordinator for the Bears while Thierry was there. The feeling is that Thierry was played out of position and will be switched to outside linebacker in Cleveland.

Browns acquire 49ers back-up QB......Ty Detmer
2/22....After a week of indecision the Browns were able to acquire Ty Detmer. Detmer a 7 year veteran out of BYU brings leadership to the Browns as well as a much needed starting quarterback. Browns President Carmen Policy has stated that Detmer can be an excellent mentor for a young quarterback.....Tim Couch, anybody?....

Free Agency is in full frenzy...atleast in Cleveland, Browns sign 2, trade for Spielman.
2/15....It was another busy day for the Browns. The Browns announced the signings of former Brown, RT Orlando Brown and CB Corey Fuller. Brown is a mammoth offensive lineman that indicated he wanted to return to Cleveland, and he did. Corey Fuller started since his rookie season for the Minnesota Vikings, Fuller has progressed in each of his 4 seasons there and he fills a major need on the Browns defense......The biggest story of the day was the deal that brings linebacker back to his roots, in northeastern Ohio. Spielman a former all-pro player from Ohio State brings a passion, desire, experience, and toughness to the Browns. Spielman wanted to play in Cleveland and Buffalo granted him that.

Browns finally dip into the free agent market: Wohlabaugh and Gardocki signed.
2/14....The Browns made 2 key free agent signings. The signings of potential All-Pro center Dave Wohlabaugh and All-Pro punter Chris Gardocki are more outstanding building blocks the Browns have acquired.

A deal with the 49ers?...Yes, the Browns acquire Barker and Smith for past considerations
2/12....The Browns have acquired defensive end Roy Barker and tight-end Irv Smith from the 49ers. Barker a 7 year NFL veteran had 12 sacks for the 49ers in 1998, while nursing nagging injuries throughout the season. Smith was a back-up tight-end in San Francisco. Smith went to the 49ers as a free agent from New Orleans. Smith is a huge target for whomever the Browns quarterback will be. The 49ers are cap strapped and needed to dump salaries. This trade was made in conjunction with the Browns drafting cornerback Antonio Langham in the expansion draft.

Browns tab C/G Pyne first in expansion draft, Langham comes back home
