Two days Bangkok (24 - 26
may 2001)
At 17.00 Thai Airways flew us back to Bangkok. Under construction......... Onderweg konden we genieten van de wonderen der natuur. Er zat onweer in de lucht, maar in die lucht, vlak naast de onweerswolk is dat toch wel een niet te missen spektakel. De grote onweerswolken leken grote toefjes slagroom en de bliksem verlichtte ze zoals een flikkerende kerstboom. Fantastisch! Ook al landden we dit keer 's avonds om 20u in Bangkok, nog zinderde de lucht van de warmte. We kenden de luchthaven nu al een beetje en wisten nu ook onmiddellijk wat we moesten doen. We namen een taxi(meter) en lieten ons terug voeren naar het Holiday Mansion hotel, met dat verschil dat wij nu moesten uitleggen aan de taxichauffeur waar dat hotel zich bevond. Goed dat we de omgeving al een paar keer te voet hadden ontdekt.
Friday 25th of may The Grand Palace was built in 1782,
with a temple or Royal Chapel located within the compound of the palace.
Wat Phra Kaeo is one of the most beautiful
temples in the world. It is a royal temple built within the Grand
Palace compound therefore there are no resident monks. The temple is a treasure
house of Thai arts, and houses the Emerald Buddha, the most revered Buddha image
in Thailand. This lanna style Buddha image is in a seated position in the
attitude of meditation. Today, thousands of worshippers pay their respects
in front of the statue.
