Magnetic Levitation
(The quick way)

What I'm demonstrating here is a simple way to make a strong magnet levitate using the most simple and common tools and supplies.

You will need the following stuff:
-At least 1 neodymium rare earth magnet (I used 2 for my demonstration). Normal ceramic magnets are not even close to being strong enough.

-An old record player. You'll need one with an aluminium platter. Best to use one that you have no intentions of using as a record player ever again. The bearings are not designed for this application, and they may or may not survive.

-An electric drill that works. You can make it work the platter spinning it by hand, but the drill is a no-brainer!

   -Some tape.

Here's what you do:

You will first want to confirm that this is NOT your only record player (as you might need another one to play your records on considering the fact that cds are going down the same path of hopeless obselesence as 78rpm records and 8 track tapes), then you should make sure its not plugged in and then remove the rubber mat covering the platter and then attach your magnet(s) to your piece (about two inches, you might want to double it up for strength) of tape and then attach the other end of the tape to the end of the arm on the record player and then make sure the needle is in the up position and then secure the arm such that the magnet rests at the outer edge of the platter and make sure that the arm doesn't move up, down, in or out and then attach the spindle in the middle of the platter to your drill as though it were a drill bit and then make sure the drill is in forward gear and then, go pour yourself a single malt scotch (on the rocks, of course, and only if you're over 21)(If you're not 21, have some Kool-Aid on the rocks, its almost as good) and then......

.....pull the trigger and let  'er rip!

To find out why exactly this strange phenomena happens, I welcome you to visit my PFM page. Please see the links below.

Please note...There is a high probability that this has nothing to do with the manner in which aliens propel thier spacecraft. Best I can tell, there ain't no aliens, and there ain't no spaceships, and there ain't no perpetual motion.
