"For some ...Life is too short, For others it's too long..."

"That which doesn't kill me, will only make me stronger..."

This page I am dedicating to my son...Who is not a part of my heart, but IS my heart.

Those were a few of his favorite quotes (he's quite a kid) and I have created this special page about him

8th, 1980

His name is Thomas but I will always regret not naming him Ian . Back in the day naming a child after a family member was the thing to do and the name Thomas was acceptable. I sure wish I had the guts back then that I do now.

Anyway Thomas it was and from that moment on he became "My Tommy Boy". To this day I still call him "Tommy" and always will no matter how old he gets.

He was born on a cold January day and arrived 3 weeks later than scheduled. He weighed in at 9 lbs. 9 ozs. and was 22 inches long. And it was a Natural child birth! Boy, did that hurt! (But it was worth every painful minute).

I thought he would never grow into his 15" cone shaped head or grow hair, but by his first birthday he was just as cute as could be.

Tommy was a fast learner and eager to do everything. By age 2 he knew all the hits: Old McDonald, ABC, Twinkle Twinkle...you get the idea. The training wheels came off his bike at age 4. He was always facinated with "wheels". He took the wheels off every toy car he owned (why? we'll never know).

He was a good baby and a great little boy. I can honestly say he was never spanked or punished as a child. If there was a problem with his behavior, we discussed it. (My views on parenting is a whole other page)

I spent alot of time with Tommy while he was growing up. Although I worked full time, I made sure I took time off to go on every field trip and school event.

I was a Cub Scout Den Mother and we looked forward to marching in the local Memorial Day Parade.

We'd go camping and bike riding and did alot of traveling.

He knew my friends and I knew his and sometimes we'd just sit and talk about what was on our minds.

We'd dress up for Halloween and walking around with "Mom" was never a problem.

As he got older, basketball became his life.

By high school he had made the team. I cheered him on at every game and win or lose, I was always proud of him.

Unfortunatly, his basketball future ended abruptly as he played a bit too hard which caused an injury to his knees. He had major knee surgery in November of 1997.
His right knee had to be totally reconstructed and he now has 3 pins holding it together for the rest of his life. This was a big disapointment, but something that could not be avoided.
He now just plays ball locally with his friends and takes it easy on the knee

Tommy graduated high school in June 1998 (another proud day for me). That summer he got a job at a local Plumbing company. (Sure I would have preferred college, but a career in plumbing wasn't bad either)

He has since learned alot about plumbing and became a Certified Oil Burner Mechanic. He also took a course in refrigeration and got Universal Certification to work on air conditioning and refrigerators, etc...He works hard and gets dirty, but doesn't seem to mind. With both of our Full Time careers, we still manage to find time for those talks about anything & everything.

He has grown up to be My Tommy, My Son, My Best Friend...

A   Poem

I remember just like yesterday
The day that you were born
You chaged my life forever
On that January morn

A bundle of love so precious
For me to shape and mold
Oh so many memories
Just waiting to unfold

The years they pass so quickly
From January to December
But even though they're in the past
There's none I don't remember

You've proven time and time again
That I did something right
I raised a son I'm proud of
And I thank God every night

So know I'm always on your side
On that you can depend
Thanx for being who you are
My Tommy, My Son, My Friend...

All My Love,

MM
