McDaniel picked up a 3-0 (30-16, 32-30, 30-19) win over Goucher in the quarterfinals before falling 3-0 to Johns Hopkins University (17-30, 18-30, 24-30). Carrie Sniffen (Columbia, MD / Oakland Mills) posted 12 kills, while setter Jamie Bodden (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) tallied 31 assists in the win over Goucher. McDaniel was slow to get started in the loss to Johns Hopkins, but finally got the offense rolling in the third game, however, the effort was too little too late. Bodden recorded 14 set assists, while Sniffen led the team with 13 digs. Krista Eiser (Doylestown, PA / CB West) posted 12 digs, and Denise Grosso (Ellicott City, MD / Centennial) led the team in kills with six. Juniata had topped the Pride twice during the regular season, but could not pull out the victory in the championship match, as Springfield claimed the title with a 3-1 win. Game one saw the Eagles fall behind by two points early, as nerves seemed to affect both teams. Juniata’s defense then got the team rolling as a block from Scott Kofmehl (North Allegheny/Pittsburgh), Nate Kincel (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh) and Neil Lukas (Fairport, N.Y./East Windsor, N.J.) gave the Eagles a 14-11 edge. An ace from Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) brought the Eagle cushion to 16-11. Springfield would rally behind some defense of their own, coming to within one point with a block from Jacob Voorhies and Clay Spiegel. The opening game would stay tight to the finish, with Springfield drawing even with the home squad at 27-27 with a kill from Spiegel. A kill from Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) broke the tie with a kill, and was followed up with an ace from Lukas for a 29-27 lead and then finished the match 30-27. Game two belonged to Springfield’s Brandon Mueller. The Pride sophomore led Springfield back from an early 16-11 deficit, and then with the score tied 24-24 he knocked down three kills and added a block to help his team earn the 31-29 win. A late ace from setter Tucker Short was also pivotal in giving game two to Springfield. Mueller had nine kills in the second game. Mueller and Greg Lardo were again key as the Pride took game three by a 30-24 tally. With the match tied at 17 following a block from Kincel and Eiser, Springfield moved ahead 21-17 with Lardo serving. The Eagles would cut into the lead as Jones and Eiser teamed up to for the block bringing the score to 21-19. Mueller responded with a kill and then would serve as the Pride pulled away. Three kills from Lardo down the stretch sealed the win. Game four played out much the same as game three, with Springfield leaning on Mueller and Lardo to bring them to the win. Springfield jumped out early, but Juniata responded with three straight serve aces from Chris Jones (Lower Merion/Wayne) to take a 9-8 lead. Springfield answered with defense getting two blocks to take back the lead. The Eagles would seize control again at 17-16 and led 18-17 before Mueller took over. The sophomore who earned tournament MVP honors scored four of the next five points on two kills a blocks and an ace to give the Pride a 21-19 edge. The Eagles would never hold the lead again. Genova brought the Eagles to within three at 26-23, and then Kofmehl and Jones teamed up for the block to cut the lead to two but Juniata would get no closer as Springfield claimed game four, and the title 30-27. Juniata and Springfield both placed two players on the all-tournament team. Genova and Lukas represented Juniata, while Short and Lardo both earned accolades for their play. Matt Cornell of LaVerne and Chris Bock of Stevens Tech rounded out the team, with Mueller earning Molten MVP honors for the second straight season. Genova finished with 24 kills to lead the blue and gold attack. Eiser put away 12 attack chances while notching eight digs and five blocks. Lukas led the squad with 13 digs, and pounded out 10 kills. Kincel had a team-best 10 blocks, while Kofmehl tossed out 47 abets for Juniata. Juniata’s win sets up a rematch with Springfield College who topped La Verne in the day’s first semi-final. Juniata and Springfield have met twice this season, with the Eagles winning both times, including last weekends EIVA Division III title tilt. Juniata wasted no time getting started in game one as they raced out to a 9-4 lead. Juniata had the defense working as they racked up six total blocks one of them coming as Chris Jones (Lower Merion/Wayne) and Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) combined for a block to give the Eagles a 15-7 edge. Two kills from Neil Lukas (Fairport (N.Y.)/East Windsor, N.J.) pushed the Eagles edge to 23-12. Jones and Genova teamed up for another block to bring the Eagles to game point, and Genova finished off the 30-16 game one victory with a kill. A resilient Stevens Tech squad hit the floor in game two as they outlasted the Eagles 39-37. The game was tight throughout with neither team holding a lead of more than two points. The Ducks moved ahead 22-20 on a kill from Chris Bock. Juniata scored the next three points, finished by a kill from Lukas. The two teams would then repeatedly side out with neither squad moving ahead by more than a point. Bock would finally give the Ducks a 38-37 edge and then Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) had an attack go off the antenna as Stevens Tech claimed the game. Eiser started game three with a bang for the Eagles as his kill pushed Juniata to a 6-1 edge. Another Eiser kill brought the Eagles’ lead to 15-7 early in game three. Eiser and Nate Kincel (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh) joined forces for a block that made the score 20-10. Stevens began climbing back into the match as an ace from Scott Mooney cut the Eagle advantage to 22-14. A kill from Lukas halted the run, and Juniata would score eight of the next 10 points to earn a 30-16 win. Eiser and Jones continued to dominate defensively as the pair combined for two blocks for points early in game four. Eiser and Kincel also teamed for a block and Kincel served an ace to give Juniata a 9-2 cushion. An ace for Ricky Ziegler (Northeastern/Manchester), who came in at the setter spot half-way through game four, and then back-to-back aces for Lukas brought the Eagle lead to 24-12. A kill from Lukas put the icing on the 30-16 victory. Juniata had five players record in double figures in kills, led by Lukas who notched 15 kills with only one error on 20 swings, good for a .700 hitting percentage. Genova had 14 kills, and both players brought up a match high 12 digs. With the 12 digs, Lukas is only one dig away from moving into the Juniata all-time top-five in that category. As the host of next weekend’s Molten Championship Juniata has an automatic bid to the four-team tournament. As the runner-up Springfield will receive the bid awarded to the EIVA Division III winner. The Eagles claimed their first title in this event since the 1999 season, despite falling behind big in game one. The visiting Pride jumped out to a 14-7 lead in game one, before a kill by Neil Lukas (Fairport, N.Y./East Windsor, N.J.) stopped the early momentum. Juniata would rally and ties the match at 21 courtesy of a block by Chris Jones (Lower Merion/Wayne) and Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown). Springfield edged in front again, but the Eagles tied the game at 26 and then scored four of the next five points, ending with a Lukas kill to give game one to Juniata. Springfield controlled game two from the outset and never let Juniata into the game. After Juniata got within one point at 8-7, Springfield kept their lead to at least two points, with some solid net defense leading the way. Late kills from Brandon Mueller and Greg Lardo helped the visitors cruise to a 30-20 win. In the pivotal game four only once did either team hold a lead of more than three points. A kill from Lukas gave Juniata the largest lead at 15-11. Springfield rallied and tied the match at 17. The two teams jockeyed back and forth until back-to-back blocks by Nate Kincel (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh) and Eiser gave the Eagles a 27-23 cushion. They needed all of that lead as Springfield came back again, tying the match at 29. Juniata then closed out the game with kills from Jones and Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) for the 31-29 win. Juniata again held a big lead half-way through game four, as a block from Kincel and Lukas put the Eagles up 17-12. The Pride answered again, rallying to cut Juniata’s lead to 22-20. The visitors got no closer than two points as the Eagles closed out the game and match on the strength of strong serving from Jason Bartholow (North Harford/Baltimore, Md.) by a 30-24 score. Juniata was led by Genova who pounded out 18 kills to go along with nine digs and two blocks. Lukas added 14 kills and a team-high 10 digs, while Eiser had 12 kills, a team-best six blocks and nine digs. Scott Kofmehl (North Allegheny/Pittsburgh) dished out 48 assists to go with his seven digs. Kincel and Jones both also had six blocks for the Eagle defense. Juniata now has a record of 16-7 on the season. The 30-28, 30-22, 30-28 loss avenges an loss Juniata suffered earlier this season in Huntingdon at the hands of Concordia. Juniata finishes the regular campaign with a record of 14-7 overall and 7-7 in the EIVA Tait Division. Juniata will be the number one seed in this weekend’s EIVA Division III play-offs. A balanced attack was the order of the day for Juniata, as the Eagles had four players record double figures in kills. Nate Kincel (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh) notched a career-high 12 kills for Juniata along with three blocks and a dig. Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) pounded out 11 kills with five digs and two aces, while Neil Lukas (Fairport, N.Y./East Windsor, N.J.) and Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) each had 10 kills. The Eagles fell to the Lions 3-1, dropping their overall record to 12-7 and 5-7 in the Tait Division. Penn State remained unbeaten in the Division with a record of 10-0. It seemed early as though the Eagles might have the upset in them. A pair of kills from Nate Kincel (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh) kept the Eagles within striking distance in game one. The Eagles trailed 13-10 in the early going, but then the visitors got hot, pushing the lead to 20-14. An ace from Chris Jones (Lower Merion/Wayne) gave Juniata a lift and the lead was quickly cut to 22-20. Penn State then got rolling again and closed out game one by taking eight of the next 10 points to claim game one 30-22. Game two saw Juniata again hang in early mostly on the strength of solid defense. Kincel and setter Scott Kofmehl (North Allegheny/Pittsburgh) combined for three straight blocks to tie the game at eight. Penn State would pull away again and closed out a relatively easy 30-20 victory. The Eagles appeared reenergized in game three. Early aces from Kincel and Neil Lukas (Fairport, N.Y./East Windsor, N.J.) and a kill from Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) had the game tied at nine. Juniata pulled out to a three-point lead on a kill from Brian Dinning (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh), and Lukas led the Eagle attack late to propel the blue and gold to the 30-27 game-three win. Penn State quickly reestablished control in game four, and took the lead for good at 4-3. The win improved Juniata to 12-6 overall, while Sacred Heart fell to 9-8 on the season. Juniata trailed for most of the first game, falling behind by as many as four points as late as 20-16. Neil Lukas (Fairport, NY/East Windsor, NJ) began the comeback with a kill and an ace, cutting the lead to 20-19. Juniata continued to chip away, finally moving ahead 29-28 on a block by Nate Kincel (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh) and then claimed the victory 30-28 on a block by setter Scott Kofmehl (North Allegheny/Pittsburgh). After dropping game two to the visitors 30-24, Juniata would respond again, this time by running out to an early 10-5 lead in game three. After defeating Princeton University last Friday, the Eagles were back on their home floor and came away with a 3-0 victory over Saint Francis. The win improved Juniata’s overall record to 10-6, besting their win total from all of last season. Juniata is now 5-6 in EIVA Tait Division play, matching their conference win total from a season ago. The Eagles Started fast, jumping out to an early 7-3 lead over the visitors. Neil Lukas (Fairports, NY/East Windsor, NJ) pounded out two kills and added a block early on to get the Eagles started. The Red Flash rallied and tied the score at nine. The game remained close with a Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) kill giving the Eagles a 24-20 advantage. Chris Jones (Lower Merion/Wayne) then tossed out two serve aces, and Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) added a kill to push the game-one lead to 27-20. A Nate Kincel (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh) kill would close out the first game, with the Eagles claiming the 30-22 victory. Eiser enjoyed some of the finest matches of his career in the month of February. In nine matches, the junior reached double figures in kills seven times. He set a new career-best with 23 kills in a victory over Mercyhurst, and then topped that two matches later as he knocked down 27 kills in a win over Saint Francis. His .367 attack percentage for the month led all regular attackers. He had five matches in which he attacked at better than .400. He also averaged four blocks per match, second-best on the team for the month. Eiser rounded out the stat sheet by registering 39 digs, including a career-high 12 in a win against Princeton, and nine serve aces. He also earned EIVA Division III player of the week honors during the month. Through 14 games this season, Eiser is leading the Eagles in attack percentage among the regular attackers, is second in kills, second in total blocks, second in serve aces and fourth in digs. With still nearly half of the season remaining Eiser is well on his way to setting career highs in nearly every statistical category. His 181 kills this season is already a career high, and at his current pace he should eclipse his season bests in blocks, digs, aces and hitting percentage. With Eiser making key contributions Juniata has climbed to the top of the Division III rankings. The March 4th American Volleyball Coaches Association poll had the Eagles ranked No. 1 in Division III for the sixth-straight week. Through 14 matches this season Juniata had a record of 8-6 and had yet to lose to a Division III team. The Eagles have not taken a game from the Patriots in their two meetings this season. The loss dropped Juniata to 8-6 overall and 3-6 in EIVA Tait Division action. George Mason is 10-6 overall and a perfect 8-0 in conference play. The loss drops Juniata to 8-5 overall and 3-5 in EIVA Tait Division action. Game two saw Juniata push in front 12-7 on a kill from Neil Lukas (Fairport, N.Y.)/East Windsor, N.J.). Concordia would cut the lead to two at 13-11, but a block by Lukas and Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) sent the Eagles on a run that gave them a six-point lead 19-13. The Clippers would again cut into the lead, trailing 20-17. Juniata answered with a kill from Chris Jones (Lower Merion/Wayne), a kill from Lukas and a block from Jones and Eiser to propel them to the 30-20 victory. Concordia maintained at least a two-point lead through most of the game, and was holding a comfortable four-point edge at 24-19. The win improved Juniata to 7-4 overall and 2-4 in the EIVA Tait Division. Princeton is now 5-4 overall and 1-1 in Tait competition. Game two was the critical game for Juniata today as the Eagles dropped game one by a 30-22 score. The Eagles responded in game two, and led for most of the game. Princeton would tie the game at 18 apiece. The Eagles would then go on a run as an ace from Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown), a kill from Cordt Withum (Penn Manor Holtwood) and then back-to-back kills from Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) made the score 24-20 in favor of the Eagles. Juniata would reach game point at 29-24 and then held on as Princeton went on a run to make the score 29-28, but Genova would end things with a kill. Juniata (6-4) continues to have success against Division II and III schools, as all six of their wins have come against Division II or III opponents. The match turned in favor of the Eagles in the pivotal game three. After Juniata earned a 30-23 victory in game one, Mercyhurst responded by topping the Eagles 30-19 in game two. Game three was close throughout, but after Juniata fell behind 27-26, a kill by Cordt Withum (Penn Manor/Holtwood) and a block by Chris Jones (Lower Merion/Wayne) and Ricky Ziegler (Northeastern/Manchester) gave Juniata the lead 28-27. Eiser’s week featured three games in which the Eagles middle hitter registered double figures in kills. Opening the week against Penn State, Eiser had 13 kills on 24 swings with five errors to attack at .333 in a three-game loss. In a big Division III showdown against NYU, Eiser hit .579 and had 12 kills to go along with two blocks in Juniata’s 3-0 win. Eiser finished the week with 13 kills and a .706 hitting percentage in a three-game Tait Division loss to Division I George Mason. For the week, Eiser averaged 12.6 kills per match and .412 kills per game, while hitting at a .517 clip. He also added six blocks and eight digs on the week. Eiser’s attack percentages against George Mason and NYU were two of the four-highest match attack percentages turned in by an Eagle this season. Eiser led the team in kills against both George Mason and NYU. Through eight matches this season, Eiser has the highest attack percentage among the regular attackers, and is second on the team in both kills and kills per game. He is second on the team in total blocks, and is averaging better than a block per game. With Eiser leading the way, Juniata climbed to the top of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll. Kenny Eiser, a 6-3 sophomore middle blocker for third-ranked Juniata College (7-8), has earned the AVCA/Sports Imports Division III National Player of the Week as he helped the Eagles to a 2-1 record last week at Huntingdon, Pa.. Eiser chipped in averages of 3.00 kills, 1.27 blocks, 1.00 digs and 2.00 assists. He recorded a .483 hitting percentage on 58 attempts over the course of 11 games. (3/18/02) KENNY EISER NAMED AVCA/SPORTS IMPORTS DIVISION III PLAYER OF THE WEEK HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown), a sophomore middle hitter for the Juniata College men's volleyball team, has been named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA)/Sports Imports Division III national player of the week for the stretch of March 11 through March 17. It marks the first time in his collegiate career that he has earned the honor. Eiser, a 6-3 athlete, helped Juniata to a 2-1 record this past week, with the lone setback coming to Division I Rutgers-Newark. On Friday versus New Jersey Institute of Technology during a 3-1 win, he had 16 kills on 30 swings for a .433 hitting percentage. In addition, he had four blocks, two assists and one digs against the Highlanders. On Saturday during a 3-1 loss to Rutgers-Newark, Eiser tallied nine kills without a single error on 13 total attempts (.692). He added in six rejections and two assists as well. He wrapped up the weekend with eight kills, a .400 hitting percentage, four blocks, two digs and two assists in a 3-0 victory over Division III New Paltz. For the week, Eiser averaged 3.00 kills, 1.27 blocks, 0.55 assists and 0.27 digs per game and hit .483. "Kenny is a great weapon for us both offensively and defensively," said sixth-year Juniata head coach Ryan Patton. "He plays so strong at the net and is very quick. He is a great blocker and has the quickness and versatility to put a lot of kills away for us from the middle of the net and when he slides to the antenna. He just gets better and better with each match he plays." Juniata returned to the competitive court on Friday evening for the first time in 13 days against visiting Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Tait Division foe New Jersey Institute of Technology. The Eagles were able to out-last the Highlanders in four games to sweep the season series, 30-24, 27-30, 30-22, 32-30. The victory was Juniata’s fourth straight in the series with NJIT and the all-time match-up is now tied, 13-13. Juniata is ranked third in this week’s American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Poll, while NJIT is a Division II program. Sophomore middle hitter Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) led Juniata with 16 kills, a .433 hitting percentage, and four blocks (one solo). Sophomore opposite Javier Garcia (San Ignacio/Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) had 14 kills, seven blocks (two solo) and five digs, while sophomore outside hitter Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) also reached double figures in kills with 13. After falling behind big in the first game and dropping the initial encounter of the day, Rutgers-Newark gathered itself and posted three straight triumphs to take an EIVA Tait Division outing from host Juniata, 26-30, 30-27, 30-26, 30-26 on Saturday afternoon. Garcia and junior outside hitter Neil Lukas (Fairport/Fairport, NY) each had 14 kills for Juniata. Lukas also had four digs, two blocks, one assist and one ace, while Garcia posted three digs, two assists, one block and one ace. Genova had 10 kills and three assisted blocks. Eiser added in nine kills on 13 attempts without an error for a .692 hitting percentage. He also had six blocks and two assists for the Eagles. Junior setter Scott Kofmehl (North Allegheny/Pittsburgh) distributed 47 assists and had four kills, three blocks, three digs and two aces. Juniata put the finishing touches on a busy weekend of action by downing New Paltz on Sunday afternoon, 30-21, 30-26, 30-25. The win by Juniata also secured a spot in the EIVA Division III playoffs for the Eagles. The four-team tournament, which holds an automatic invitation to the Molten Division III national championship for the winner, is slated for April 6 and 7 at the site of the highest-seeded team. On Sunday, Juniata needed just an hour and 12 minutes to take care of the Hawks, and hit .372 as a team. The 30-15, 30-21, 30-24 victory was the eighth straight win for Bentley, which improved to 15-4 overall and 4-0 in the NE-10. Assumption lost for just the second time in seven conference matches and fell to 11-8 overall. Cavanaugh recorded 16 kills and did not make an error in 23 attempts, with her outstanding .652 hitting percentage the best by a Bentley player this season. She also had five blocks. SPRINGFIELD CLAIMS THIRD STRAIGHT MOLTEN CHAMPIONSHIP

4/12/03--Huntingdon, PA – The third time was not the charm for the Juniata College men’s volleyball team, but three was the lucky number for Springfield College as they claimed their third consecutive Molten Division III Championship. Juniata had topped the Pride twice during the regular season, but could not pull out the victory in the championship match, as Springfield claimed the title with a 3-1 win.

Game one saw the Eagles fall behind by two points early, as nerves seemed to affect both teams. Juniata’s defense then got the team rolling as a block from Scott Kofmehl (North Allegheny/Pittsburgh), Nate Kincel (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh) and Neil Lukas (Fairport, N.Y./East Windsor, N.J.) gave the Eagles a 14-11 edge. An ace from Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) brought the Eagle cushion to 16-11. Springfield would rally behind some defense of their own, coming to within one point with a block from Jacob Voorhies and Clay Spiegel. The opening game would stay tight to the finish, with Springfield drawing even with the home squad at 27-27 with a kill from Spiegel. A kill from Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) broke the tie with a kill, and was followed up with an ace from Lukas for a 29-27 lead and then finished the match 30-27.

Game two belonged to Springfield’s Brandon Mueller. The Pride sophomore led Springfield back from an early 16-11 deficit, and then with the score tied 24-24 he knocked down three kills and added a block to help his team earn the 31-29 win. A late ace from setter Tucker Short was also pivotal in giving game two to Springfield. Mueller had nine kills in the second game.

Mueller and Greg Lardo were again key as the Pride took game three by a 30-24 tally. With the match tied at 17 following a block from Kincel and Eiser, Springfield moved ahead 21-17 with Lardo serving. The Eagles would cut into the lead as Jones and Eiser teamed up to for the block bringing the score to 21-19. Mueller responded with a kill and then would serve as the Pride pulled away. Three kills from Lardo down the stretch sealed the win.

Game four played out much the same as game three, with Springfield leaning on Mueller and Lardo to bring them to the win. Springfield jumped out early, but Juniata responded with three straight serve aces from Chris Jones (Lower Merion/Wayne) to take a 9-8 lead. Springfield answered with defense getting two blocks to take back the lead. The Eagles would seize control again at 17-16 and led 18-17 before Mueller took over. The sophomore who earned tournament MVP honors scored four of the next five points on two kills a blocks and an ace to give the Pride a 21-19 edge. The Eagles would never hold the lead again. Genova brought the Eagles to within three at 26-23, and then Kofmehl and Jones teamed up for the block to cut the lead to two but Juniata would get no closer as Springfield claimed game four, and the title 30-27.

Juniata and Springfield both placed two players on the all-tournament team. Genova and Lukas represented Juniata, while Short and Lardo both earned accolades for their play. Matt Cornell of LaVerne and Chris Bock of Stevens Tech rounded out the team, with Mueller earning Molten MVP honors for the second straight season.

Genova finished with 24 kills to lead the blue and gold attack. Eiser put away 12 attack chances while notching eight digs and five blocks. Lukas led the squad with 13 digs, and pounded out 10 kills. Kincel had a team-best 10 blocks, while Kofmehl tossed out 47 abets for Juniata.

EAGLES ADVANCE TO MOLTEN CHAMPIONSHIP

4/11/03--Huntingdon, PA – One week after claiming their first EIVA Division III championship since 1999, the Juniata College men’s volleyball team seemed eager to hit the court as they used their early momentum to claim a 3-1 win over Stevens Institute of Technology in the semi-finals of the Molten Division III men’s volleyball championship. Juniata’s win sets up a rematch with Springfield College who topped La Verne in the day’s first semi-final. Juniata and Springfield have met twice this season, with the Eagles winning both times, including last weekends EIVA Division III title tilt.

Juniata wasted no time getting started in game one as they raced out to a 9-4 lead. Juniata had the defense working as they racked up six total blocks one of them coming as Chris Jones (Lower Merion/Wayne) and Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) combined for a block to give the Eagles a 15-7 edge. Two kills from Neil Lukas (Fairport (N.Y.)/East Windsor, N.J.) pushed the Eagles edge to 23-12. Jones and Genova teamed up for another block to bring the Eagles to game point, and Genova finished off the 30-16 game one victory with a kill.

A resilient Stevens Tech squad hit the floor in game two as they outlasted the Eagles 39-37. The game was tight throughout with neither team holding a lead of more than two points. The Ducks moved ahead 22-20 on a kill from Chris Bock. Juniata scored the next three points, finished by a kill from Lukas. The two teams would then repeatedly side out with neither squad moving ahead by more than a point. Bock would finally give the Ducks a 38-37 edge and then Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) had an attack go off the antenna as Stevens Tech claimed the game.

Eiser started game three with a bang for the Eagles as his kill pushed Juniata to a 6-1 edge. Another Eiser kill brought the Eagles’ lead to 15-7 early in game three. Eiser and Nate Kincel (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh) joined forces for a block that made the score 20-10. Stevens began climbing back into the match as an ace from Scott Mooney cut the Eagle advantage to 22-14. A kill from Lukas halted the run, and Juniata would score eight of the next 10 points to earn a 30-16 win.

Eiser and Jones continued to dominate defensively as the pair combined for two blocks for points early in game four. Eiser and Kincel also teamed for a block and Kincel served an ace to give Juniata a 9-2 cushion. An ace for Ricky Ziegler (Northeastern/Manchester), who came in at the setter spot half-way through game four, and then back-to-back aces for Lukas brought the Eagle lead to 24-12. A kill from Lukas put the icing on the 30-16 victory.

Juniata had five players record in double figures in kills, led by Lukas who notched 15 kills with only one error on 20 swings, good for a .700 hitting percentage. Genova had 14 kills, and both players brought up a match high 12 digs. With the 12 digs, Lukas is only one dig away from moving into the Juniata all-time top-five in that category. Jones¸ Eiser and Kincel each also had 12 kills, while Jones also registered 12 blocks for the Eagles. Scott Kofmehl (North Allegheny/Pittsburgh) tossed out 48 abets for Juniata to lead the team.

JUNIATA WINS EIVA DIVISION III TITLE
Juniata 3, Springfield 1

4/6/03--Huntingdon, PA – In a season in which the Juniata College men’s volleyball team did not need to win the EIVA Division III Tournament in order to earn a berth in the Molten Championships, the Eagles went ahead and topped Springfield 3-1 in the championship match anyway. As the host of next weekend’s Molten Championship Juniata has an automatic bid to the four-team tournament. As the runner-up Springfield will receive the bid awarded to the EIVA Division III winner.

The Eagles claimed their first title in this event since the 1999 season, despite falling behind big in game one. The visiting Pride jumped out to a 14-7 lead in game one, before a kill by Neil Lukas (Fairport, N.Y./East Windsor, N.J.) stopped the early momentum. Juniata would rally and ties the match at 21 courtesy of a block by Chris Jones (Lower Merion/Wayne) and Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown). Springfield edged in front again, but the Eagles tied the game at 26 and then scored four of the next five points, ending with a Lukas kill to give game one to Juniata.

Springfield controlled game two from the outset and never let Juniata into the game. After Juniata got within one point at 8-7, Springfield kept their lead to at least two points, with some solid net defense leading the way. Late kills from Brandon Mueller and Greg Lardo helped the visitors cruise to a 30-20 win.

In the pivotal game four only once did either team hold a lead of more than three points. A kill from Lukas gave Juniata the largest lead at 15-11. Springfield rallied and tied the match at 17. The two teams jockeyed back and forth until back-to-back blocks by Nate Kincel (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh) and Eiser gave the Eagles a 27-23 cushion. They needed all of that lead as Springfield came back again, tying the match at 29. Juniata then closed out the game with kills from Jones and Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) for the 31-29 win.

Juniata again held a big lead half-way through game four, as a block from Kincel and Lukas put the Eagles up 17-12. The Pride answered again, rallying to cut Juniata’s lead to 22-20. The visitors got no closer than two points as the Eagles closed out the game and match on the strength of strong serving from Jason Bartholow (North Harford/Baltimore, Md.) by a 30-24 score.

Juniata was led by Genova who pounded out 18 kills to go along with nine digs and two blocks. Lukas added 14 kills and a team-high 10 digs, while Eiser had 12 kills, a team-best six blocks and nine digs. Scott Kofmehl (North Allegheny/Pittsburgh) dished out 48 assists to go with his seven digs. Kincel and Jones both also had six blocks for the Eagle defense. Juniata now has a record of 16-7 on the season.

JUNIATA FNISHES REGULAR SEASON WITH WIN

3/30/03--Bronxville, NY—Juniata closed out their regular season by sweeping Concordia College 3-0. The 30-28, 30-22, 30-28 loss avenges an loss Juniata suffered earlier this season in Huntingdon at the hands of Concordia. Juniata finishes the regular campaign with a record of 14-7 overall and 7-7 in the EIVA Tait Division. Juniata will be the number one seed in this weekend’s EIVA Division III play-offs.
A balanced attack was the order of the day for Juniata, as the Eagles had four players record double figures in kills. Nate Kincel (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh) notched a career-high 12 kills for Juniata along with three blocks and a dig. Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) pounded out 11 kills with five digs and two aces, while Neil Lukas (Fairport, N.Y./East Windsor, N.J.) and Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) each had 10 kills. Eiser had a team high six digs, as did freshman libero Tim Cole (Pennsbury/Yardley).

EAGLES HAVE WINNING STREAK SNAPPED BY PENN STATE 
Penn State 3, Juniata 1

3/26/03--Huntingdon, Pa.—In their home regular season finale the Juniata College men’s volleyball team did not have enough firepower to topple EIVA Tait Division foe Penn State. The Eagles fell to the Lions 3-1, dropping their overall record to 12-7 and 5-7 in the Tait Division. Penn State remained unbeaten in the Division with a record of 10-0.

It seemed early as though the Eagles might have the upset in them. A pair of kills from Nate Kincel (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh) kept the Eagles within striking distance in game one. The Eagles trailed 13-10 in the early going, but then the visitors got hot, pushing the lead to 20-14. An ace from Chris Jones (Lower Merion/Wayne) gave Juniata a lift and the lead was quickly cut to 22-20. Penn State then got rolling again and closed out game one by taking eight of the next 10 points to claim game one 30-22.

Game two saw Juniata again hang in early mostly on the strength of solid defense. Kincel and setter Scott Kofmehl (North Allegheny/Pittsburgh) combined for three straight blocks to tie the game at eight. Penn State would pull away again and closed out a relatively easy 30-20 victory.

The Eagles appeared reenergized in game three. Early aces from Kincel and Neil Lukas (Fairport, N.Y./East Windsor, N.J.) and a kill from Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) had the game tied at nine. Juniata pulled out to a three-point lead on a kill from Brian Dinning (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh), and Lukas led the Eagle attack late to propel the blue and gold to the 30-27 game-three win.

Penn State quickly reestablished control in game four, and took the lead for good at 4-3. The Eagles never got the offense going, struggling to a .176 attack percentage in the final game, and fell 30-19.

Genova led the Eagle attack with 14 kills and a team-best seven digs. Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) with 11, and Lukas with 10 were also in double figures in kills. JUNIATA TOPS SACRED HEART FOR FOUR STRAIGHT WIN

3/22/03--Huntingdon, Pa.—The Juniata College men’s volleyball team seems to be peaking at the right time as the Eagles reeled off their fourth straight win, matching their longest winning streak of the season, with a 3-1 win over Sacred Heart. The win improved Juniata to 12-6 overall, while Sacred Heart fell to 9-8 on the season.

Juniata trailed for most of the first game, falling behind by as many as four points as late as 20-16. Neil Lukas (Fairport, NY/East Windsor, NJ) began the comeback with a kill and an ace, cutting the lead to 20-19. Juniata continued to chip away, finally moving ahead 29-28 on a block by Nate Kincel (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh) and then claimed the victory 30-28 on a block by setter Scott Kofmehl (North Allegheny/Pittsburgh).

After dropping game two to the visitors 30-24, Juniata would respond again, this time by running out to an early 10-5 lead in game three. Sacred Heart would claw their way back within two points, before a kill by Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) got the Eagles rolling again and pushed the lead back to five. Sacred Heart would get no closer than three points the rest of the way. A kill by Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) finished off the 30-21 game-three win.

Game four also belonged to Juniata from the beginning, as the Eagles cruised to a 30-18 win. An ace and a kill from Genova in the early going got Juniata started, and defense from Nate Kincel late in the game led the way in the final game.

Eiser finished with a match-high 16 kills for Juniata, along with eight digs and three blocks. Lukas was also in double figures, pounding out 11 kills and adding a team-best nine digs.

JUNIATA TOPS SAINT FRANCIS

3/18/03--Huntingdon, Pa.—For the second time in less than a week, the Juniata College men’s volleyball team defeated a Division I conference foe. After defeating Princeton University last Friday, the Eagles were back on their home floor and came away with a 3-0 victory over Saint Francis. The win improved Juniata’s overall record to 10-6, besting their win total from all of last season. Juniata is now 5-6 in EIVA Tait Division play, matching their conference win total from a season ago.

The Eagles Started fast, jumping out to an early 7-3 lead over the visitors. Neil Lukas (Fairports, NY/East Windsor, NJ) pounded out two kills and added a block early on to get the Eagles started. The Red Flash rallied and tied the score at nine. The game remained close with a Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) kill giving the Eagles a 24-20 advantage. Chris Jones (Lower Merion/Wayne) then tossed out two serve aces, and Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) added a kill to push the game-one lead to 27-20. A Nate Kincel (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh) kill would close out the first game, with the Eagles claiming the 30-22 victory.

Game two was an even closer affair, with the St. Francis holding to within a point at 23-22. Juniata scored the next point on a kill from Kincel and slowly pulled away. Setter Scott Kofmehl (North Allegheny/Pittsburgh), Kincel and Lukas all had kills as the Eagles closed out game two 30-26.

Game three belonged to Juniata from the start. An early 5-1 lead set the pace, and the visitors would get no closer than two points the rest of the way. Juniata Coach Ken Shibuya substituted liberally giving opportunities to Brian Ambrose (Pennsbury/Yardley), Jason Bartholow (North Harford/Baltimore, Md.), and Brian Dinning (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh) who all recorded kills in the final game. Juniata won the third game by a 30-16 score.

Genova led a balanced Eagle attack as he recorded 10 kills. Kincel finished off eight attack chances, and added four blocks on the defensive side. Eiser led the Eagle “D” with five blocks, two of them stops, and a team-best eight digs.

Princeton, N.J.—In their first match in nearly two weeks the Juniata College men’s volleyball team improved to 9-6 overall and 4-6 in EIVA Tait Division play with a 3-1 victory over Division I Princeton. The Eagles won three games by a total of six points to get the win.

Neil Lukas (Fairport, NY/East Windsor, NJ) led Juniata with a career-high 22 kills with a .333 hitting percentage. Lukas also had a team-best nine digs, two blocks and an ace on the match. Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) tallied 21 kills on the match and Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) was also in double figures with 17 put-aways. Scott Kofmehl (North Allegheny/Pittsburgh) tossed out a season-high 62 assists in the victory. Chris Jones (Lower Merion/Wayne) led the unit with eight blocks, while Eiser added six for the Eagle defense. Tim Cole (Pennsbury/Yardley) also registered nine digs on the defensive side.

UHRICH, EISER CHOSEN AS JUNIATA COLLEGE ATHLETES OF THE MONTH

Huntingdon, Pa. – Junior Jen Uhrich (Palmyra/Palmyra) a forward on the Eagles’ women’s basketball team, and Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) a middle hitter for the Eagles men’s volleyball squad have been selected as the Juniata College “athletes of the month” for February.

Eiser enjoyed some of the finest matches of his career in the month of February. In nine matches, the junior reached double figures in kills seven times. He set a new career-best with 23 kills in a victory over Mercyhurst, and then topped that two matches later as he knocked down 27 kills in a win over Saint Francis. His .367 attack percentage for the month led all regular attackers. He had five matches in which he attacked at better than .400. He also averaged four blocks per match, second-best on the team for the month. Eiser rounded out the stat sheet by registering 39 digs, including a career-high 12 in a win against Princeton, and nine serve aces. He also earned EIVA Division III player of the week honors during the month.

Through 14 games this season, Eiser is leading the Eagles in attack percentage among the regular attackers, is second in kills, second in total blocks, second in serve aces and fourth in digs. With still nearly half of the season remaining Eiser is well on his way to setting career highs in nearly every statistical category. His 181 kills this season is already a career high, and at his current pace he should eclipse his season bests in blocks, digs, aces and hitting percentage.

With Eiser making key contributions Juniata has climbed to the top of the Division III rankings. The March 4th American Volleyball Coaches Association poll had the Eagles ranked No. 1 in Division III for the sixth-straight week. Through 14 matches this season Juniata had a record of 8-6 and had yet to lose to a Division III team.

JUNIATA FALLS TO DIVISION I GEORGE MASON

Fairfax, Va..—For the second time this season Juniata College was unable to come away with a victory against Division I George Mason. The Eagles have not taken a game from the Patriots in their two meetings this season. The loss dropped Juniata to 8-6 overall and 3-6 in EIVA Tait Division action. George Mason is 10-6 overall and a perfect 8-0 in conference play.

Juniata entered the match with a team hitting percentage of .308 but were held to a .068 attack percentage in this outing, as the home team took the match by scores of 30-24, 30-18, 30-24. The Patriots attacked at a .325 clip far better than the .195 average Juniata had been holding opponents to.

EAGLES FALL IN FIVE GAMES
Concordia 3, Juniata 2

Huntingdon, Pa.—Juniata had their three-game winning streak snapped as the Eagles fell in a five-match battle with Concordia. The loss drops Juniata to 8-5 overall and 3-5 in EIVA Tait Division action.

Game two saw Juniata push in front 12-7 on a kill from Neil Lukas (Fairport, N.Y.)/East Windsor, N.J.). Concordia would cut the lead to two at 13-11, but a block by Lukas and Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) sent the Eagles on a run that gave them a six-point lead 19-13. The Clippers would again cut into the lead, trailing 20-17. Juniata answered with a kill from Chris Jones (Lower Merion/Wayne), a kill from Lukas and a block from Jones and Eiser to propel them to the 30-20 victory.

Juniata controlled game three from the beginning, jumping out to an early 6-2 lead on a kill from Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading), one of his match-high 23 kills. Juniata would never trail in the game and closed it out on a kill from Eiser.

The tables were turned in game four, as Juniata would never own a lead in the game. Concordia maintained at least a two-point lead through most of the game, and was holding a comfortable four-point edge at 24-19. Juniata roared back on kills from Eiser, Genova and Jones to slice the Clipper advantage to 25-24. The victors then claimed the next two points and hung on for a 30-27 win.

The decisive game five saw Juniata claim the early lead, as a block from Eiser and Nate Kincel (Penn Hills/Pittsburg) brought the Eagle lead to 7-4. Concordia responded by scoring five-straight points to take a 9-7 lead. Juniata could not recover and dropped game five 15-11.

Along with Genova’s 23 kills, Lukas, Eiser and Jones each added nine put-aways for Juniata. Ricky Ziegler (Northeastern/Manchester) dished out 46 assists from his setter spot, and added four blocks. Pat Shawaryn (Hempfield/Lancaster) registered a team-high seven digs. Jones led the team with eight blocks, while Eiser seven blocks for the Eagles.

Eiser records kill career-high in Eagle win.

Loretto, Pa.—On the strength of a career-high 27 kills from Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown), the Juniata College men’s volleyball team won their third straight match by topping Saint Francis.

After dropping game one 33-31 Juniata responded by winning the next three games. Juniata improved to 8-4 overall and 3-4 in EIVA Tait Division play. Saint Francis fell to 4-8 overall, and is 0-4 in conference play.

Juniata trailed in game two 24-19 before they reeled off nine unanswered points to take a 28-24 lead. The Eagles finished off game 30-26 and took game three 30-25 and game four 30-27.

Eiser has recorded a career-high in kills in two of his last three matches. Last Saturday he set a career high with 23 kills against Mercyhurst College.

Along with Eiser’s 27 kills, Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) added 12 kills and a team-high 10 digs. Also in double figures was Chris Jones (Lower Merion/Wayne) who had 10 kills for the Eagles, along with six blocks. EAGLES EARN VICTORY OVER PRINCETON

Huntingdon, Pa.—Juniata got off the snide against Division I opponents as the Eagles rallied from a one-game deficit to top Princeton 3-1. The win improved Juniata to 7-4 overall and 2-4 in the EIVA Tait Division. Princeton is now 5-4 overall and 1-1 in Tait competition.

Game two was the critical game for Juniata today as the Eagles dropped game one by a 30-22 score. The Eagles responded in game two, and led for most of the game. Princeton would tie the game at 18 apiece. The Eagles would then go on a run as an ace from Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown), a kill from Cordt Withum (Penn Manor Holtwood) and then back-to-back kills from Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) made the score 24-20 in favor of the Eagles. Juniata would reach game point at 29-24 and then held on as Princeton went on a run to make the score 29-28, but Genova would end things with a kill.

The Eagles controlled game three from the beginning jumping out to an 8-2 advantage. A Neil Lukas (Fairport, NY/East Windsor, NJ) kill moved the Juniata advantage to 10-5. Princeton would cut the lead to three at 24-21 but Eiser responded with two straight kills, followed a by a Lukas kill and a Withum and Eiser block to bring the lead back to six. The Eagles would finish it out 30-25.

Game four was tighter as Juniata jumped out to another early lead, but Princeton would stage a comeback and tie the game at 10 after Juniata led 5-2. Neither team would have a lead of greater than three until the Eagles got hot late. Genova started the surge with a kill to make the score 25-22. Eiser then Genova again and then Ziegler recorded kills making the score 28-23. The Eagles would close it out and take game four 30-25.

Genova led the Eagles with 17 kills on the match, his second straight day with 17 kills. Eiser and Chris Jones (Lower Merion/Wayne) each had 12 kills and Lukas was also in double figures with 11 kills. Ricky Ziegler passed out 48 assists for the second straight day, the second-highest assist total of the season. Eiser recorded 12 digs on the defensive side for Juniata, and Lukas added seven digs. JUNIATA SNAPS TWO-GAME SLIDE

Huntingdon, Pa.—The Juniata College men’s volleyball team put a stop to their two-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over Mercyhurst College. Juniata (6-4) continues to have success against Division II and III schools, as all six of their wins have come against Division II or III opponents.

The match turned in favor of the Eagles in the pivotal game three. After Juniata earned a 30-23 victory in game one, Mercyhurst responded by topping the Eagles 30-19 in game two. Game three was close throughout, but after Juniata fell behind 27-26, a kill by Cordt Withum (Penn Manor/Holtwood) and a block by Chris Jones (Lower Merion/Wayne) and Ricky Ziegler (Northeastern/Manchester) gave Juniata the lead 28-27. Mercyhurst responded to tie the score at 28, but Juniata then closed out the game on back-to-back kills by Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) and Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) and moved ahead two games to one.

Juniata kept the momentum rolling in the fourth game as they slowly pulled out to a lead. An ace from Genova made the score 12-11 Eagles, and then a block by Jones and Eiser gave Juniata a three-point cushion at 15-12. The lead would continue to expand up to six points as Genova pounded out a kill to make the score 22-16. Neil Lukas (Fairport, NY/East Windsor, NJ) would add two kills late in the game and a kill by Genova would finish the match as the Eagles took game four 30-23.

Eiser led the offensive attack for the Eagles by pounding out a season-high 23 kills. Genova added 17 kills for the Eagles, who had a team hitting percentage of .434. Lukas chipped in nine kills for Juniata, while Ziegler passed out 48 assists in the match. Eiser also led the defensive effort with nine digs, while Genova contributed eight digs of his own. Jones had a team-high seven blocks for the blue and gold.

EISER NAMED EIVA DIVISION III PLAYER OF THE WEEK 
Huntingdon, PA – Juniata College junior Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) earned EIVA Division III “player of the week” honors for his play with the men’s volleyball team.

Eiser’s week featured three games in which the Eagles middle hitter registered double figures in kills. Opening the week against Penn State, Eiser had 13 kills on 24 swings with five errors to attack at .333 in a three-game loss. In a big Division III showdown against NYU, Eiser hit .579 and had 12 kills to go along with two blocks in Juniata’s 3-0 win. Eiser finished the week with 13 kills and a .706 hitting percentage in a three-game Tait Division loss to Division I George Mason.

For the week, Eiser averaged 12.6 kills per match and .412 kills per game, while hitting at a .517 clip. He also added six blocks and eight digs on the week. Eiser’s attack percentages against George Mason and NYU were two of the four-highest match attack percentages turned in by an Eagle this season. Eiser led the team in kills against both George Mason and NYU.

Through eight matches this season, Eiser has the highest attack percentage among the regular attackers, and is second on the team in both kills and kills per game. He is second on the team in total blocks, and is averaging better than a block per game.

With Eiser leading the way, Juniata climbed to the top of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll. The Eagles were ranked first in the Feb. 11 poll having defeated Springfield College and NYU, teams ranked second and fourth in the poll respectively, earlier in the season. The Feb.11 poll was the third-straight AVCA Coaches poll that had the Eagles ranked as the top team. Through eight matches, Juniata had a record of 5-3 with all of its losses coming against Division I opponents.

Newark, N.J.—In a rematch of their season-opening match in which the Eagles fell in five games, Juniata dropped a close game one, and then couldn’t hold on to a early game-two lead in dropping a contest to Rutgers-Newark 3-0. The Eagles fell by game scores of 31-29, 30-27, 30-24.

Genova led the Eagle attack with 15 kills. Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) had 14 kills and two serve aces for Juniata. Huntingdon, Pa. – After earning their first EIVA Tait Division victory the previous night, Juniata could not pull out a victory over Division I George Mason, as the Eagles fell 30-28, 30-23, 30-24. 
The Eagles best chance for a win came in game one, as a late rally almost earned the Eagles a comeback victory. Juniata trailed 25-18, but rallied on the strength of strong defense. The Eagles got a block from Chris Jones (Lower Merion/Wayne) and Nate Kincel (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh) and then another from Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) and Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) which tied the match at 27. After two-straight George Mason points, a kill by Eiser brought the score to 29-28 in favor of the visitors, but Juniata could not get another point as the Patriots claimed the game-one victory.

Game three saw neither team hold a big advantage until the end. Juniata was within two points of George Mason for most of the game, but fell behind by four 24-20. The Eagles again rallied, cutting the lead to 26-24 on a block by Eiser and Ricky Ziegler (Northeastern/Manchester) and then another put away by Eiser. The Patriots then responded by closing out the match with four-straight points to earn the victory.

JUNIATA EARNS EIVA TAIT VICTORY

Huntingdon, Pa. – The Juniata College men’s volleyball team earned their first EIVA Tait Division victory of the season as they topped NYU. Juniata, currently ranked first in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, improved to 5-2 overall and 1-2 in the division with the victory. NYU, ranked fourth in the AVCA poll, dropped to 2-5 on the season and is winless in the EIVA Tait.
The two teams were even through a good portion of the first game, with the score tied as late as 14-14. Juniata then got hot and pushed out to an 18-15 lead after consecutive kills by Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks/West Doylestown) and Nate Kincel (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh).

Juniata was led offensively by Eiser and Genova who each registered 12 kills

Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) led the Eagles in kills for the sixth straight match, this time recording 15. Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks/West Doylestown) was also in double figures with 13 kills.

Huntingdon, PA – The Juniata College men’s volleyball team continues to roll as the Eagles recorded their third-straight 3-0 victory, this time over Division II foe East Stroudsburg.
On the offensive side, the Eagles continued to attack with great efficiency. Juniata attacked at a 37-percent clip. Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) had a team-high 14 kills for Juniata. Juniata 3, Eastern Mennonite - men
Huntingdon, PA – The Juniata College men’s volleyball team continued their solid early-season play with a convincing 3-0 victory over Eastern Mennonite in Memorial Gym. The Eagles (3-1), ranked first in Division III in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association poll took control of the match early, topping the visiting Royals (4-1) 30-19, 30-11, 30-21.
Game one was even throughout the early going as neither team was able to build a considerable lead. Two early kills from Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks/West Doylestown) and Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) pushed Juniata to a 10-8 lead. Juniata ran away with game two in the early going as two kills from Eiser and a double block from Eiser and Nate Kincel (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh) made the score 15-5. Juniata would not slow down as runs of five and four points would carry the Eagles to the victory.
Eiser led the Eagles defensively with six blocks, while Lukas had a team-high six digs. Lukas also tossed in three serve aces.

Kenny Eiser, a 6-3 sophomore middle blocker for third-ranked Juniata College (7-8), has earned the AVCA/Sports Imports Division III National Player of the Week as he helped the Eagles to a 2-1 record last week at Huntingdon, Pa.. Eiser chipped in averages of 3.00 kills, 1.27 blocks, 1.00 digs and 2.00 assists. He recorded a .483 hitting percentage on 58 attempts over the course of 11 games. Eiser connected for 16 kills as part of a .433 hitting percentage against NJIT and added four blocks in the four-game victory. Eiser hit .692 and contributed six blocks in a four-game loss to Rutgers-Newark. He finished the week with eight kills, four blocks, two digs and a .400 hitting percentage against No. 8-tie SUNY New Paltz on March 17. Juniata qualified for the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Division III Tournament following its top-10 showdown with SUNY New Paltz.

KENNY EISER NAMED AVCA/SPORTS IMPORTS

DIVISION III PLAYER OF THE WEEK

HUNTINGDON, Pa. –  Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown), a sophomore middle hitter for the Juniata College men's volleyball team, has been named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA)/Sports Imports Division III national player of the week for the stretch of March 11 through March 17.  It marks the first time in his collegiate career that he has earned the honor.

Eiser, a 6-3 athlete, helped Juniata to a 2-1 record this past week, with the lone setback coming to Division I Rutgers-Newark.  On Friday versus New Jersey Institute of Technology during a 3-1 win, he had 16 kills on 30 swings for a .433 hitting percentage.  In addition, he had four blocks, two assists and one digs against the Highlanders.  On Saturday during a 3-1 loss to Rutgers-Newark, Eiser tallied nine kills without a single error on 13 total attempts (.692).  He added in six rejections and two assists as well.  He wrapped up the weekend with eight kills, a .400 hitting percentage, four blocks, two digs and two assists in a 3-0 victory over Division III New Paltz.  The triumph over the Hawks secured a spot for Juniata in the upcoming Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Division III four-team championship.  The winner of the EIVA Division III title advances to the Molten Division III national championship tournament.

For the week, Eiser averaged 3.00 kills, 1.27 blocks, 0.55 assists and 0.27 digs per game and hit .483.

"Kenny is a great weapon for us both offensively and defensively," said sixth-year Juniata head coach Ryan Patton.  "He plays so strong at the net and is very quick.  He is a great blocker and has the quickness and versatility to put a lot of kills away for us from the middle of the net and when he slides to the antenna.  He just gets better and better with each match he plays."

For the year, Eiser is averaging 1.98 kills, 1.13 blocks, and 0.62 digs a contest, while hitting .352 on 105 kills, 29 errors and 216 total attempts.  He leads Juniata in blocking average and total blocks (60).

Juniata, ranked third in the latest AVCA Division III Poll, will be back in action on Friday with a 7:00 p.m. home EIVA Tait Division match against Division I George Mason.  The Eagles are currently 7-8 overall and 4-6 in the EIVA Tait.

Juniata returned to the competitive court on Friday evening for the first time in 13 days against visiting Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Tait Division foe New Jersey Institute of Technology.  The Eagles were able to out-last the Highlanders in four games to sweep the season series, 30-24, 27-30, 30-22, 32-30.  The victory was Juniata’s fourth straight in the series with NJIT and the all-time match-up is now tied, 13-13.  Juniata is ranked third in this week’s American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Poll, while NJIT is a Division II program.  Sophomore middle hitter Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) led Juniata with 16 kills, a .433 hitting percentage, and four blocks (one solo).  Sophomore opposite Javier Garcia (San Ignacio/Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) had 14 kills, seven blocks (two solo) and five digs, while sophomore outside hitter Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) also reached double figures in kills with 13.  Genova also had an impressive eight aces and five digs on the night.  Sophomore libero Pat Shawaryn (Hempfield/Lancaster) led the blue and gold unit in digs with nine.  Freshman setter Ricky Ziegler (Northeastern/Manchester) came off the bench to pass out 34 assists in three games.  After falling behind big in the first game and dropping the initial encounter of the day, Rutgers-Newark gathered itself and posted three straight triumphs to take an EIVA Tait Division outing from host Juniata, 26-30, 30-27, 30-26, 30-26 on Saturday afternoon.  Garcia and junior outside hitter Neil Lukas (Fairport/Fairport, NY) each had 14 kills for Juniata.  Lukas also had four digs, two blocks, one assist and one ace, while Garcia posted three digs, two assists, one block and one ace.  Genova had 10 kills and three assisted blocks.  Eiser added in nine kills on 13 attempts without an error for a .692 hitting percentage.  He also had six blocks and two assists for the Eagles.  Junior setter Scott Kofmehl (North Allegheny/Pittsburgh) distributed 47 assists and had four kills, three blocks, three digs and two aces.  Juniata put the finishing touches on a busy weekend of action by downing New Paltz on Sunday afternoon, 30-21, 30-26, 30-25.  The win by Juniata also secured a spot in the EIVA Division III playoffs for the Eagles.  The four-team tournament, which holds an automatic invitation to the Molten Division III national championship for the winner, is slated for April 6 and 7 at the site of the highest-seeded team.  On Sunday, Juniata needed just an hour and 12 minutes to take care of the Hawks, and hit .372 as a team.  Junior middle hitter Chris Jones (Lower Merion/Wayne) led all players and Juniata with 13 kills.  He hit .381 as well.  Junior outside hitter Nate Kincel (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh) came off the bench to tally 11 kills, a .529 hitting percentage with just two errors on 17 attempts.  Kincel also had two aces.  Eiser had eight kills, a .400 hitting percentage, four blocks, two assists and two digs.  Garcia posted eight kills, four digs a block and an ace.  Ziegler worked in a back-up role and recorded 24 assists as well as four digs and two blocks, while Shawaryn paced the Eagles with seven digs.

EAGLES GET PAST ST. FRANCIS IN EIVA TAIT ACTION

In the fifth game, Juniata came back from a 3-0 hole and led 8-7 when the two squads exchanged sides of the net. The Juniata lead was at 12-10, before St. Francis recorded four straight points to go up 14-12 and seemed to have it locked up, needing just a side out or real point to seal the deal. However, Juniata sophomore Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) got a kill and then junior setter Scott Kofmehl (North Allegheny/Pittsburgh) and sophomore middle hitter Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) combined for a block to tie the game at 14-14. A hitting error by St. Francis gave Juniata a match-point situation, but the hosts served into the net to tie it at 15-15. The Red Flash had two straight match-point setups but Eiser answered with two big kills on both opportunities to turn away St. Francis. A hitting mistake by St. Francis broke an 18-18 tie, and then Garcia and junior middle hitter Luke Manion (North Allegheny/Pittsburgh) combined for a block to close out the night.
