Renewing Alliances-Part One
By: Carmen Wayne/Coolbeak Flashblade
Terry McGinnis walked down the stairs to the batcave silently where Bruce Wayne slept, leaning back in his chair in front of the computer console. Terry just smiled and walked to the glass case and opened it. He took out his Batsuit and walked into a back room to change. When he was finished he walked out as Batman to Wayne and shook him gently.
"Bruce... Bruce...?" he asked. When he got no response, he drew back. "Oh God... He's dead..."
He hurried to call Commissioner Barbara Gordon on the batcomputer when Wayne's hand slammed down on his.
"GAH!" Batman screamed, falling back.
"Let that be a lesson to you. Things are not always what they appear," he said, sitting up. He began to type rapidly on the computer. "I have a special mission for you, McGinnis."
Batman smirked.
"Oh? They're called 'missions' now!" he smiled.
Wayne turned and handed him a disk.
"I want you to deliver this to--"
"Oh no... OH NO!" Batman objected. "We went through this the first week I met you. If this is about the Wayne Powers Nerve Toxin again--"
"It's not."
Batman paused.
"Oh... Well then. Do continue," he said.
"Have you ever heard of the Mighty Ducks?" Wayne asked, turning to the computer.
"Yeah... Their my baby bro's fav team. Why?" he asked.
"They're not just common hockey players, you know."
Batman crossed his arms.
"Uh oh... That's what you said about Ash and his damned Pokemon. "They're not just animals, you know." What are these guys gonna do to me? Peck me to death?" he asked.
"It's not my fault you didn't use the batarang move before Pikachu attacked. No, they are old friends of mine. Or rather, their ancestors were." He pulled up a picture of six anthropomorphic ducks. "Wildwing, Nosedive, Duke, Grin, Mallory and Tanya."
"How'd you get hooked up with those freaks, Wayne?" Wayne glared at him and he backed away, hands up in surrender. "Okay, okay. Sorry. God, but how'd you meet 'em?"
"They're in an interdimensional war with a species called the Saurians. Have been since the early ninteen ninties when the Saurians took over their planet, enslaved their people. They chased them from their home dimension to here and continued the long war against him in our universe. The Joker thought it funny to pair up with the Saurian leader Lord Dragaunus. This was around the time the Joker was in debt. The Joker had the capabilites to destroy the Ducks and the Saurians had the money to destroy the Bat family. We had no choice but to go to Anaheim to stop the alliance with the Joker and ended up, after a long fight, gaining allies of the Mighty Ducks," Wayne said.
"But they must be like old now! If not dead!" he said.
"But they had kids, Terry."
"Ooooohhh," Batman nodded. He turned the disk in his fingers. "What's the deal with this then?"
"It's about a new weapon that Wayne Powers is designing. It's a very powerful gun."
"I despise guns," Batman said lowly.
"As do I, but they are an essential part in the Ducks arsenal. I also happened to notice an order for a copy of this weapon going to a Doctor Sunuagard."
Batman nodded.
"Dragaunus backwards... So? Just don't allow the shipment!"
"Unfortunately, only Paxton has a say-so in that area." Wayne leaned back and turned to Batman. "As Terry McGinnis you're going to fly with me to Anaheim this week."
"DUDE!!!! I have tests all this WEEK!"
"They can WAIT!" Wayne barked.
Batman drew back.
"Okay, alright, okay. So, when's the next flight out and can I take Dana?" he asked.
"We leave tonight, actually. After you're finished with rounds."
"Wait, wait, wait... Lemme get this straight. You called me from SCHOOL at 9:30 to tell me I'm going to be doing rounds all DAY and then we're leaving to go clear across the country?!" Batman exclaimed. "What about Mom and Matt?! Dana's gonna be pissed..."
"Watch the language, Terry. Besides, I already talked to Mary. She says it's fine and she seemed happy that you're willing to cut school on such short notice for me."
"You know you're making yourself out to look like a helpless old man, don't you?"
"The flight is at 6:25," Wayne said, standing. "I expect you here no later then 4:00."
"Holy Hell, Bruce. You waste no time on ruining my social life, do you?" Batman asked.
"Not at all," Wayne commented, walking away.
"I'M SAYING GOODBYE TO DANA FIRST!!!!!" Batman yelled after him.
"I don't care if you do a goat before we leave, I want you here at 4 o'clock. We're making that plane."
Nike Flashblade DuCaine gracefully spun past all the evil Red Wings and slammed the puck into the net with incredible force. The red lights and horns blared and she bowed victoriously to the Anaheim viewers. Everyone cheered and applauded. Because there was only less then a second left in the game, the disgruntled referee called it quits and said "No more".
The Ducks-Nike the leader, Michael Flashblade DuCaine the second in command, Duke L'Orange the 2nd, Molly Vanderfeather, Derek DeCoy and Conrad McMallard-circled around and put their sticks together valiantly.
"Gooooo DUCKS!" they cheered together.
"Great game, guys!" Nike smiled as they entered the locker room at 6:00 (Their time).
They all agreed and congradulated her. But they all froze at the sight of an old man and a teen boy. The boy stood behind the man uncomfortably.
"My, haven't the times changed? And the team as well," the man said.
"Who are you?" Duke asked, all of them laying their hands on their coms to quick-change if needed.
"You won't need your battle gear with us. I am Bruce Wayne," the man said.
"Hey! Dad talked about you!!" Nike laughed.
"And which one is your dad?" Wayne asked.
"Nosedive! Our mom is Turbulence," he replied, the team now smiled.
"You're Batman, right?" Molly asked.
"I was..." Wayne said. He shoved the boy forward. "He's Batman now."
"Him?!" Derek laughed. "HIM?!"
"Hey, you gots a problem with it punk?!" the boy yelled in a strong Brooklyn accent, going towards him. "And you betta not be gettin' up in MY face 'cause I will open a serious can o' whoop ass on you!"
Derek backed away.
"Dude, this guy is violent!"
"Mc-GINNIS!" Wayne yelled. Terry snapped to attention. "This is a non-violent team. They only use violence when they truely must."
"Yeah, like when the guys freeze our underwear!" Molly said.
Terry grinned at her and snickered.
"I did that to my best friend once... She beat the crap out of me."
"And you her," Wayne said. He then shoved Terry out of the way, walking to Nike. "I would have had the boy come to you on his own, but he's younger then you and also hasn't had the chance to train his entire life. So I just brought him with." He handed her the disk. "Dragaunus is buying a gun from Wayne Powers. If he doesn't get the copy Paxton Powers makes for him, he'll want to steal the realy from the labs here."
"Oh, how Supermanish!" Conrad said sarcastically. Terry growled and barked at him. He looked at him strangely and backed away. "Freak..."
"Oh, that's big coming from a giant duck..."
"McGinnis!"
"But--" Wayne glared at him and he backed away so far he hit the lockers. "Right..."
Nike took Wayne to the elevator leading down to the Ducks secret HQ. The others followed, quick changing into their normal clothes.
"Mighty short leash he's got on ya," Michael remarked with a grin as they entered.
Terry growled in disgust.
"I'm calling Dana!" he yelled to Wayne.
"And then get suited up and come on down. You saw how we entered."
The doors shut. Terry smirked.
"Right. Technology hates me but I'm just gonna march into unknown territory.... You better believe I'm gonna suit up."
He walked off.
"...And so here we are, still fighting the non-aging Lizard Lips," Duke finished telling Wayne.
Now they sat in the Ready Room with mugs of coffee. Wayne nodded at the story.
"Very interesting. It seems like you've had your work cut out for you since day one," he said.
"And what about you, Mister Wayne?" Molly asked, wiping her hands of grease from under the hyper-advanced Drake One. "We've told you our story, so have our predecessors. What's your story?"
Wayne just took a drink of his coffee in response.
"Don't expect an answer from him," said a voice. They turned to see the new Batman standing there. He walked in further. "I had to ask his friends to tell me about him. He's hopeless."
"Ah, the famous Batman," Conrad said.
"COOL!" Michael and Nike said in unison.
"Hmm... I'm famous," he said bluntly. He looked at Wayne. "Orders, Sir?" he asked sarcastically.
Wayne tossed him a small device. He pressed a button and a holographic map came up of the improved Raptor.
"That's your challenge."
"It's a freakin' maze! You expect me to get through THAT?!" Batman exclaimed.
"I expect nothing less," Wayne said. "Especially since you'll have help."
"I get help?!" Batman exclaimed happily. He then smirked, "Are they like Link?"
"Nothing like him."
Batman snapped in sarcastic disappointment.
"So, when do we move out?"
"Well," Molly said, tapping away at Drake One. "If we find the Raptor one satellite, we can go from there..." After a few moments Drake One began to beep. "Got it!"
"Alright, here's the plan," Nike said. "We go in the front way and we start eliminating their defenses. Molly, you'll be in charge of decloaking and shutting down their engines. Conrad and Derek, I want you two to take out the droids, alright? Duke, you'll take down their defenses otherwise. Michael and I will make our way to the direct source of trouble."
"I... Have a question..." Batman said weakly. Everyone turned to him. "I'm a little new at this... Why are we trying to stop the buyer and not the shipment?"
"Because, Dragaunus will go after the original weapon," Derek said.
"Uh, okay..."
"Let's move out, team!" Nike yelled, waving them out.
Batman went to follow when Wayne grabbed him and pulled him back as he slipped on a headset microphone.
"When you get there, don't go in the way they do..."
When the Aerowing landed in front of the Raptor. The Ducks quickly began to load their guns. Batman whinced at each and every click.
"Do you guys... Really have to use those?" he asked.
"Yes," Nike answered.
They ran out and to the front. Duke mushed a small clay piece together and slammed it onto the door and dove out of the way as it exploded. They hurried in. Batman brought out his black and red wings and silently flew in the direction he had been told to go.
The Ducks entered. Nike pointed left and Derek and Conrad ran down that way. She and Michael ran down the straight hall. Duke and Molly went down the right hall.
"Where's Batman?!" Molly asked, stopping.
"No time!" Duke said, pulling her along. They ran to a huge command pannel. "Alright, start getting the engines offline on that panel, I'll work on this side to get security systems down."
Molly started to work quickly.
"It would be easier if we just blew the damned thing up," she mumbled.
"Where would the fun be in that?" Duke asked.
"Ha-ha..."
A couple of drones walked into Conrad's and Derek's path. Derek loaded a bolo puck into his pucklauncher and shot it around the head of one, then pulled back, knocking it down. He shot an explosive puck into it and it exploded, taking the other with it. They hurried on their way.
Batman, who was watching in the shadows, placing a hand to his ear.
"That's dangerous. They depend on those things too much," he said.
"They didn't always used to..." Wayne said. "Turn on your vid-link." Batman did so. "Good, now, go right..."
Nike and Michael stopped outside the main doors to the main control room. They put away their launchers. Michael pulled his laser sword and Nike charged up her wrist laser.
"What do you hear, Nike?" Michael whispered.
She listened with the aide of the mask. "Fools! I thought you fixed the cloaking device!"
"We did!!! At least... I thought we did..."
"WRAITH!!!! Send out the drones!"
"We already sent them all out!"
Michael opened the door and the two entered. Dragaunus sneered.
"Ducks... FRY THEM!"
"Why is it they always say that?" Michael asked.
"I know, it's like, HELLO you've been trying for the past 50 years!" Nike agreed.
She went to her knees and started to fire lasers at Dragaunus's feet. He jumped around then fell back into his throne. Siege came behind them with two huge guns and grinned.
"Make one move and you're roasted duck," he sneered.
"The puns, Michael! The puns!" Nike said sarcastically, raising her hands into the air and standing with him.
They turned to Siege. Just as he was about to fire, Batman decloaked in front of him and crescent kicked then guns from his hands.
"What the--" Siege started.
"I don't like guns and now I don't like you," Batman said lowly.
He kicked Siege in the stomach with strength that he couldn't possibly have. He then slammed his fist into Siege and Siege fell back. He turned at a singular applause. Dragaunus stood there, applauding. He then stopped as drones walked in and surrounded them.
"Amazing. Batman. THE Batman finally graces me with his presence. Now I have a real goal. With these ducks, that was just a personal glory and an honor only few would share... But you... You Batman are the real bred winner."
"I... Am?" Batman asked.
"You act surprised. You're quite the popular item. There are bids on the black market for your life!"
Michael leaned over to Nike.
"And I thought WE had it bad," he mumbled.
"And NOW I get to finish you off. I mean, the knowledge of your identity alone will sell for billions. And if I kill you, your body parts will sell for quite a bit too."
Batman walked between the twins and to Dragaunus boldly.
"You know what your problem is? You talk too much."
He jumped up and grabbed Dragaunus and flipped him over and into Nike and Michael as the drones started firing.
"Keep behind him! They won't fire on--" he was cut off as laser fire pumbled him to the ground.
"McGinnis!" Wayne yelled.
"GAH!" Batman yelled as a net landed on him and electrocuted him.
It picked him up and hung him there. He breathed heavily as the net slowly spun to an all too familiar face.
Blight.
The neon green, radioactive creature made at the hands of Batman.
Batman noticed Nike and Michael run. He nodded slowly and moaned:
"Good..." At least they got away.
"Batman, Batman, Batman..." Blight said, walking over. "What ever shall we do with you?"
He slammed a ball of radioactivity into Batman's back. Batman arched and screamed out in pain as the radioactivity burned his insides. The net gave out and Batman fell to the floor hard. He stood and ran, tackling Blight, despite the buring.
"I SAVED YOUR LIFE!!!!!" Batman yelled, slamming a fist into him. "And now you're trying to kill me?!"
Blight kicked him off into a wall. He stood slowly and turned.
"You destroyed my life... And you expect me to just go "Oh well, he's sorry. I forgive him". I THINK NOT!!!"
He slammed more radioactivity into Batman. The suit provided cover. But not well to this.
The Ducks, who had gathered, ran in to see the sight. All of a sudden, the activity exploded and shot clear through Batman's torso. He stopped and turned to the ducks. He cried out in anger and threw a green ball at them, but suddenly got bowled over by Batman. He stumbled away from him into the group of Ducks.
"We have to get out of here!" Nike yelled.
Conrad and Derek helped drag Batman out quickly and they ran out as fast as possible.
