Summary: A little thing I wrote… What if Batman faced off with Nightwing with absolutely no mercy like they would normally show each other? I was inspired by this COOL .mp3 titled "Battle of Legends". I will gladly send it to anyone who wants to hear it. As a matter of fact, I might plaster it on my page and give credit to the people who made it!
There is no premise, there is no reason. They're just fighting each other. Maybe there'll be a reason by the end. Maybe I should start a line of stories like this?
The Ultimate Showdown Part 1
Batman Vs. Nightwing
By: Carmen Wayne
Nightwing bolted down the large street bridge as fast as he could, the Batman right behind him. He had been jumped by Batman as soon as he entered the city. But he wouldn't submit to this man.
Batman was a fast runner, but Nightwing had the edge due to his acrobatic abilities. He ran to one of the large posts that lead high above the street. Leaping up onto the railing, he lunged onto the post. What he had forgotten was Batman's strength and his twisted ankle from the fall.
Batman leapt up and grabbed Nightwing's bad ankle and pulled him back down to the street. Nightwing landed on his side, but did a spin over onto his back, bringing his legs into the air. Bending his knees and springing off his arms, he landed on his feet. Immediately, the pain in his ankle swallowed up into pride and he glared at Batman.
"You won't stop me," he announced.
"We'll see."
Batman dove in with a punch, but Nightwing blocked it and tried to kick him in the side, which was blocked away. A sharp blow came to his temple, making him stagger back. But, as he saw the black figure move towards him, he back flipped and caught Batman's chin and face with his cleeted boots. Batman fell back and used the momentum of hitting his back to spring immediately back to his feet.
Batman leapt in and tried a crescent kick, which Nightwing ducked backwards to avoid. He started to realize Batman was taking the offensive.
'Oh no you don't. You know I'll be more tempted to take the offensive! I don't think so!' he thought. 'Lets balance this out.'
Nightwing slammed his foot towards Batman's chest. Batman slid to the side. Nightwing yelped when Batman forced Nightwing's leg to the side of his body and backhanded him across the face. Nightwing went to the left involuntarily, but turned it for his advantage by falling all the way and dragging Batman with. A thrust of his leg upward, and Batman hit the concrete… Then again, so did Nightwing. Kicking Batman in the chest, he was able to get away and stumble to his feet.
"You're crazy, Dick," Batman said, swinging up to his feet.
"No. I'm a pyro!"
He swung open his fingers towards Batman and flames spurted out. Batman shielded himself, his cape lighting on fire. Quickly he ripped it off and threw it for Nightwing, who managed to get out of the way. He squatted down, and then leapt into the air, legs going for Batman. Batman crossed his arms and reached up, wrapping around Nightwing's lead leg. Nightwing cried out as he was swung over Batman's head and hit the ground. Twisting out of Batman's grasp, he somersaulted backwards as Batman came for him, and landed on his back. He swiped Batman's feet from under him.
Batman slammed down and narrowed his eyes. Nightwing had acrobatics and he had martial arts. Unfortunately, their opposite skills matched them perfectly. Nightwing stood and took off running for the way he was headed in the first place. Batman took off after him once more. He could tell Nightwing was having a hard time, for the limp had grown. Batman threw out a bola.
To his surprise, Nightwing spun and tossed out a Bangarang he got from Robin. It sliced the rope and flashed past Batman's eyes, blinding him. A heavy, sharp pressure went to his chest. The air left his body, and he started to switch into his second line of sight. Carefully, he began to listen.
Nightwing got in several punches and kicks before Batman caught on to some kind of pattern. A swing in with his fist and Batman caught it. Batman, eyes wide in concentration, slammed his fist into Nightwing's chest. He heaved forward as the pain surged through him.
Batman threw him to the ground and backed off. Both were breathing somewhat hard, but were nowhere near needing their next breaths.
Nightwing crouched on his knees, ready to spring. Batman stood on guard, ready for any attack, offensive or defensive. His sight had come back obviously as the white focused in tightly on Nightwing's white eyes. Neither could tell what the other was thinking about doing because their pupils were covered. The utter thought of them out for each other's blood caught them off guard, but didn't make them want to yield. As they tried to figure each other out, they came to the same decision:
'Disable his suit's mechanics.'
Nightwing sprinted forward and slammed into him like a hockey player. As they both went toward the ground, he tried to pry Batman's belt off. Batman slammed an elbow into his chest and ripped off one of the sacks that lined the glove of his right arm. Nightwing managed to knock a few knives from Batman's person before he got clear again.
This time when Batman came for him, the punches aimed for Nightwing's head. Nightwing dodged two and blocked two more. He remembered Batman had been shot in his right side, the one side Nightwing hadn't bothered to attack.
A shin-kick went to Batman's right side and made him double over. Nightwing saw he broke some of Batman's stitches. For a moment he flashed to the battle Bruce and Alfred must have had over that.
His momentary daydream cost him the rest of his carry pouches on his arms and legs, and he was sprawled onto the ground. Batman tossed the packs behind him, standing at Nightwing's feet.
"You see…" Nightwing panted angrily. "It is pretty obvious that most of my equipment is in those patches… Like with you and your belt… And over our persons… Are more back-up equipment…"
"Your point?" Batman asked breathlessly.
"You've been so busy following me… Learning what I'm good at… You forget that I all ready know what you're good at… And where you hide your stuff!"
Nightwing's foot slammed into the inside of Batman's left leg. There was a snap and Batman stumbled back, beginning to limp.
'Damn him!' Batman thought angrily. 'That was my snap-razor he just lodged in my foot!'
Nightwing leapt up and slammed a straight fist into Batman's face. Sparks flew and Batman had to hold his cowl in order to not get burned. He heard Nightwing shuffle for him and ducked down as Nightwing tried to crescent kick him. He grabbed Nightwing's leg when it was above him and pulled upwards, momentarily forgetting how flexible his former protégé was. But he quickly reacted upon remembering. He literally slapped Nightwing with the blade of his hand, blowing out his mask. Letting go of Nightwing, he watched him with recovering vision as he stumbled back.
Nightwing momentarily pulled off his mask to let it spark out. Batman let him do that in peace. But the moment Dick Grayson became Nightwing once more, Batman went after him like a freight train. Nightwing jumped to the side and ran for the edge of the bridge. He leapt up onto the post again and began to crawl quickly, trying to reach the gigantic cords above.
He watched Batman run after and immediately had to admire him. So many cheap shots were given to him, and yet he was still standing, and still fighting. But admiration turned back to anger as Batman crawled for him faster and faster.
Batman was bound and determined to catch Nightwing and END this. As he crawled, he too watched him in adoration for a moment.
'I trained that boy to be able to take on anything,' he thought. 'And now he's taking on me, the man who gave him the opportunity to do what he's doing now.' Nightwing gripped the top edge and swung up quickly. Batman growled. 'Damn, he's got the upper edge. Then again…'
Grabbing smoke pellets from his belt, he threw them up and they exploded. He could hear Nightwing coughing hard and sprint-crawled up. Holding his breath, he rose into the smoke and slammed Nightwing back into the apex of the large post and held him there by the throat. Both's eyes were now fully visible to each other since their masks were shut off. Their faces were broken and bleeding, but the anger and frustration outweighed the pain…
Nightwing slammed his knee into Batman's groin and head butted him. Batman stumbled back as the smoke began to clear, in pain and dizzy as hell. That's when Nightwing took complete and totally control of the situation.
A double upper-fist went to Batman's right cheek. Another sharp kick to his right side and a direct punch, uppercut to the solar plexus, and a crescent to the head. He slammed his palm-heel into the spot just below Batman's forehead, above his nose, and between his eyes. Slamming his hand flat on Batman's forehead, he dug his sharp fingers in and ripped downwards. Even through his glove and the fabric on Batman's cowl, streaks of blood dripped through from Nightwing's movement.
A sharp double uppercut this time to Batman's solar plexus, and he was on the ground. Nightwing froze though. That was enough. Batman was on his knees, staring at the wounds Nightwing delivered. He won the battle, fair and square.
"I'm going now," Nightwing said, going to climb down.
Batman suddenly whipped a leg behind him, tripping Nightwing away from the edge. Grabbing him tightly, Batman stared at him with angry eyes. But not only anger… Amidst the red that surrounded his eyes, the white seemed to glow and the baby blue seemed neon. They flashed with an evil fury he had only seen in archvillains. Batman began to stand, clutching his shoulders on pressure points.
"Oh my God, Bruce… What the Hell's going on?!" Nightwing cried.
Batman didn't respond. One simple movement, and Nightwing was headed for the Gotham River. Batman watched until the very end. Frozen for a moment, the evil faded in his eyes for a mere second, but then it came back.
Turning, he headed back for the street. As he slid towards the bottom, a woman in a long black dress appeared, grinning a fanged grin.
"One battle down. I win. Now lets see who'll win when my agent Batgirl fights Robin."
