Pinafore Dishcloth
For a quick and easy-to-make item, crochet this dishcloth. The original was made from American Thead Company "Puritan" Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton. One 300-yard ball white and one 50-yard ball "Star" Pearl Cotton, size 5 in red or any desired color. Use a number 8 crochet hook.
Abbreviations: Ch (chain); st (stitch); sl st (slip stitch); sk (skip); dc (double crochet).
With white, ch 66, join, being careful not to twist ch, ch 5, sk 2 sts of ch, dc in next st, * ch 2, sk 2 sts of ch, dc in next st, repeat from * all around, ch 2, join in third st of ch, (22 meshes in all) drop white.
Row 2: Join red, ch 3, * 2 dc in next mesh, dc in next dc, repeat from * all around, join, cut thread.
Row 3: Pick up white, ch 5, dc in same st, * ch 2, 1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc in next dc, repeat from * all around, ch 2, join in third st of ch.
Row 4: Ch 5, dc in next dc, * ch 2, dc in next dc, repeat from * all around, ch 2, join in third st of ch.
Repeat the last row 13 times, drop white.
Row 18: Join red and work same as last row,,cut thread.
Pick up white and work 2 more rows of 2 ch meshes, cut thread.
Edge-join red in dc, * ch 3, dc in third st from hook, sc in next dc, repeat from * all around, cut thread.
Attach red at top and work 2 sc in each mesh and 1 sc- in each dc, cut red.
BIB-With white, ch 17, dc in 8th st from hook, ch 2, sk 2 sts of ch, dc in next st, * ch 2, sk 2 sts of ch, dc in next st, repeat from *.
Row 2, 3, 4: Ch 5, turn, dc in next dc, * ch 2, dc in next dc, repeat from ch 2, dc in third st of ch.
Shoulder Strap-Ch 5, turn, dc in next dc, * ch 5, turn, dc in third st of ch, repeat from * 6 times, cut thread.
Sk 2 meshes of 4th row, join thread in next dc and work same as other shoulder strap, ch 5, join to opposite shoulder strap, sl st across last mesh, ch 5, turn.
Next Row. Dc in next dc, ch 2, dc in center st of ch 5, ch 2, dc in next dc, ch 2, dc in third st of ch, ch 5, turn and work 3 more. rows of open meshes, cut thread.
With red, work scallop edge around sides of bib same as on skirt working a row of sc across each short end. Work a row of sc around neck edge of bib. Sew bib as shown in illustration.
BOW- With white, crochet a ch about 12 inches long, dc in 6th st from hook, * ch 1, sk 1 st of ch, dc in next st, repeat from * across ch, cut thread. Join red, ch 3, sc in next dc, * ch 3, sc in next dc, repeat from * around entire strip. Tie into a bow and sew to back of pinafore as illustrated.
