Pineapple Motif

This versatile motif can become a tablecloth, place mat set, chair or vanity set
or scarf.  I suggest using Daisy Mercerized Crochet Cotton, size 30 in white, 
cream or ecru; use size 12 or 13 steel crochet hook. 
Each motif measures about three inches square; takes approximately 18 yards.
Abbreviations: Ch (chain); st (stitch); sl st (slip stitch); rnd (round); p (picot);
lp (loop); sc (single crochet); dc (double crochet); sp (space).
Motif-  Ch 8, sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in ring, ch 5, sl st in sc for a p, (3 sc in ring, a p)  3 times, 2 sc
            in ring, sl st at base of first p, sl st in p.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, 7 dc in same p, (ch 2, 8 dc in next p) 3 times, ch 2, sl st in tip of 
           first ch 3.
Rnd 3: Ch 4, dc in next dc, (ch 1, dc in next dc) 6 times, * ch 2, dc in first dc 
            on next shell, (ch 1, dc in next dc) 7 times, repeat from * twice, ch 2,
            sl st in third st of first ch 4.
Rnd 4: Sc in next ch 1 sp, (ch 4, sc in next sp) 5 times, * ch 2, dc in next sp,
           ch 4, dc between first 2 dc on next shell, ch 2, sc in next sp, (ch 4, sc in
           next sp) 4 times, repeat from * around. End with ch 4, sc in first ch 4 lp.
Rnd 5: (Ch 4, sc in next lp) 4 times, * ch 2, dc in next dc, ch 11, dc in next dc,
           ch 2, sc in next lp, (ch 4, sc in next lp) 3 times, repeat from * around.
           End with ch 11, sc in first ch 4 lp.
Rnd 6: (Ch 4, sc in next lp) 3 times,* ch2, dc in next dc, ch 5, (dc,ch 5, dc) all
            in 6th (center) st of next ch 11, ch 5, dc in next dc, ch 2, sc in next lp,
            (ch 4, sc in next lp) twice, repeat from * around.  
            End with ch 5, sc in first ch 4 lp.
Rnd 7: (Ch 4, sc in next lp) twice, ch 2, dc in next dc, ch 7, (4 dc, ch 5,
           4 dc) all in center ch 5 corner sp, ch 7, dc in next dc on pineapple,
           ch 2, sc in next lp, ch 4, sc in next lp, repeat from * around. 
           End with ch 7, sc in first ch 4 lp.
Rnd 8: Ch 4, sc in next lp, * ch 2, dc in next dc, ch 8, dc in each of next
           4 dc, (4 dc, ch 5, 4 dc) all in next sp, dc in each of next 4 dc, ch
           8, dc in next dc on pineapple, ch 2, sc in next lp, repeat from * 
           around. End with ch 8, sc in first ch 4 lp.
Rnd 9: Ch 3, dc in next dc, * ch 10, dc in next dc, ch 8, sk 7 dc, ** (4 dc,
           ch 9, 4 dc) all in next (corner) sp, ch 8, sk 7 dc, dc in next dc, 
           ch 10, dc in each of 2 dc on pineapple, hold last lp of each dc on
           hook, thread over and pull through all lps on hook at once for a 
           cluster, repeat from * around. End with ch 10, sl st in first dc. 
           Cut and fasten off on back.
Second Motif-
            Repeat the first motif to ** in row 9, 4 dc in next sp, ch 4,
            sl st in center st of a ch 9 corner lp on first motif, ch 4, 4 dc 
            back in same comer sp on second motif, ch 4, sl st in next ch 8 lp
            on first motif, ch 4, sk 7 dc back on second motif, dc in next dc,
            ch 5, sl st in next ch 10 lp on first motif, ch 5, (dc back in 2 dc
            on pineapple on second motif) made into a cluster, ch 5, sl st in 
            next ch 10 lp on first motif, ch 5, dc back in next dc on second 
            motif, ch 4, sl st in next ch 8 lp on first motif, ch 4, sk 7 dc
            back on second motif, 4 dc in next sp, ch 4, si st in center st of
            corner ch 9 on first motif, ch 4, 4 dc back in same corner sp on 
            second motif. Complete motif as for first one. 
Continue to make and join motifs in this manner.
