DAWN PATROL RENDEZVOUS

This was the event to be at -- Dawn Patrol Rendezvous !

Every other year, at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, the Dawn Patrol Rendezvous is a weekend air show of reproduction WWI aircraft.  These pilots and their aircraft come from all over the country to display these magnificent planes as they should be seen -- in the air !

Events include balloon burst & bomb drop competitions, "like-aircraft" formation fly-by's, and of course, the Parade of Warbirds.  There are also period-clothing costume competitions, antique automobiles of the period, and even groups of WWI re-enactors.

The last event took place Sept. 30 - Oct. 1, 2000.  By tradition, the next event should take place in 2002, but will instead be moved to 2003.  This is being done so that the Dawn Patrol Rendezvous can coincide with Dayton's planned "centennial celebrations" of the first 100 years of flight.

Below are a few pictures I took from Dawn Patrol 2000.  Just click on the thumbnail to view the full-size picture.
