EasyJet
Airlines was
founded in 1995 by Stelios Haji-Ioannou of Greek shipping company Stelmar
Tankers. The airlines first low-cost scheduled flight was between
London-Luton and Glasgow International on the 10th November 1995.
Edinburgh was also added on the 24th of the same month. The initial
frequency was three daily flights, with two at weekends to both
destinations. Initially EasyJet operated two leased 737-200's however
these were soon returned to their lessors in favour of the 737-300. EasyJet's first international route, between London Luton and Nice was
inaugurated on the 4th June 1996 following the introduction of the 737-300
into the fleet. EasyJet's domestic routes now connect London Luton with
Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Inverness, Belfast International and
Liverpool. International destinations served from EasyJet's Luton hub are
Amsterdam, Athens, Barcelona, Geneva, Madrid, Malaga, Nice, Palma de
Mallorca and Zürich. In October 1997 EasyJet started its second hub at
Liverpool Airport. Destinations served from Liverpool include Amsterdam,
Barcelona, Belfast, Geneva, Luton, Madrid, Malaga and Nice. EasyJet also
have a growing route network in Geneva, with flights being operated by EasyJet
Switzerland (formally TEA Switzerland). Destinations served from
Geneva are Amsterdam, Barcelona, London Gatwick, London Stansted,
Liverpool, Luton and Nice.
On 27th July 1998 EasyJet signed a
massive order with Boeing for 15 Boeing 737-700's. Delivery of these
aircraft began in October 2000 and will continue through to February 2003.
This will ensure that EasyJet continues to have one of the youngest fleets
in Britain. To coincide with the introduction of these new aircraft EasyJet
plan to add new routes to their network. Destinations currently
under consideration include Berlin, Jersey, Larnaca, Oslo, Paphos and
Stockholm.

Flew EasyJet between Glasgow and Luton. Crew both ways were friendly and very professional. Aircraft were also comfortable and clean. The best part was the fare - only £45 return.

CommentsEXCELLENT! I DON'T LIEK FLYING MUCH BUT THESE WERE BEST FLIGHTS I HAVE HAD EVER! LAST YEAR FROM LIVERPOOL TO PALMA. TOOK OFF EARLY, NO DELAYS, SMOOTH FLIGHTS AND FRIENDLY CABIN CREW. DEFINITELY GOING TO BE USING THEM AGAIN.

CommentsFlew easyJet 4 times in one week. Although the cabin was a little more cramped then anything I have ever seen in the US, the staff was great and the every flight was on time. I cant wait to fly easyJet again.

CommentsAfter Skyjet , this is probably the worst airline I have ever flown with . Aircraft are dirty and on-board service is poor . If you do manage to get a cheap ticket , they make up for it on the price of in-flight sales . The planes seem worn out to me ( or at least they sounded like it ! )

CommentsFlew from Luton to Geneva on 30th October, the crew were swiss and didn't speak much english. But made you feel very welcome. The drinks and sandwiches were very expensive on the flight out and charged in Swiss Francs.
Flew back home from Geneva to Luton on the 1st November on a brand new 737-700. The Cabin Crew were excellent and prices were more reasonable and charged in GBP. We left Geneva 20 mins late but arrived into Luton 10 mins early!
Have nothing but praise for easyJet!
No wonder BA and the other traditional airlines air suffering.
