JMC Airlines is Britain's third largest charter airline. JMC holidays ltd and JMC Airlines were both unveiled to the public on 1st September 1999. JMC Airlines officially began services on the 27th March 2000 after the merging of the Flying Colours fleet and the Caledonian Airways fleet, to form one unified airline. Under the ownership of the Thomas Cook group, the new airline was formed because of a merger between the Flying Colours leisure group, which was acquired by Thomas Cook in 1998 and the Carlson Leisure group which included Caledonian Airways. The initials 'JMC' stand for John Mason Cook, the son of founder Thomas Cook, who developed the famous holiday brand. JMC Airlines will be operating 28 aircraft, for the summer 2001 season, which will comprise of 757's, A320's and DC-10's. The airlines aim is for in-house flying to account for 85% of its total passengers, which are expected to exceed 5 million. For the start of the summer 2000 season JMC Airlines opened up two new stations at Stansted and Luton airports. The main bases for the airline are at Manchester and London Gatwick, they also have stations at Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow and Newcastle. JMC Airlines have recently taken delivery of their first of two 757-300 aircraft making it the first uk airline to operate the type. The airline is also leasing two A330-200 aircraft to replace DC-10's on long-haul routes.

Flying Colours

Flying Colours Airlines began operations in 1997 and operated a fleet of 757's and A320's mainly for Sunworld and other tour operators which were part of the Thomas Cook group. In its short time of existence Flying Colours grew into one of Britains leading charter airlines and operated from 6 UK airports to many popular holiday destinations.

Caledonian Airways

Caledonain Airways began life in 1988 as a wholly owned subsidary of BA. In 1994 Inspiartions bought the airline for £16.6 million. Caledonain operated A320's, DC-10's and L1011's to all the popular sunspots in summer and also operated flights, in the winter, to popular ski destinations. All L1011's have now been returned to there leasers.
