KLM uk is Britain's third
largest scheduled airline, and carries around 5 million passengers a year.
In a refocus of the airlines operations, KLM uk's main operations are now
to fly passengers from 15 UK airports to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. UK
airports served are Aberdeen, Birmingham, Bristol (KLM cityhopper),
Cardiff (KLM cityhopper), Edinburgh, Glasgow, Humberside, Leeds/Bradford,
London City, London Heathrow (KLM), London Stansted, Manchester,
Newcastle, Norwich and Teeside. Routes such as Glasgow - London Stansted
have been dropped in favour of increased frequencies on flights to
Amsterdam. KLM uk is the largest foreign user of Amsterdam Schiphol
Airport.
Air UK was established in
1980 as a result of a merge of a number of regional airlines: Air Anglia,
BIA, Air West and Air Wales. The airline was originally owned by British
Air Transport Holdings but KLM's formal interest in the carrier was seen
in 1987 when it took a 14.9% stake in the airline. This figure increased
to 45% in 1995 and in July 1997 full ownership took place. Air UK was
rebranded as KLM uk in 1998 with a brand advertising campaign launched in
early 1999. KLM uk is the largest carrier to operate out of London
Stansted since the opening of the airport's new terminal in 1991.

KLM uk's Low-cost
brand 'buzz' started operations on the 4th Jan 2000 with 8, 110 seat, BAe
146-300 aircraft allocated to the airline by KLM uk. The airline also took
delivery of two Boeing 737-300 aircraft (registered G-BZZA and G-BZZB) to
add to its fleet in the spring of 2000. Currently buzz operates to a
number of European destinations from its London Stansted base, and unlike
other low-fares airlines, buzz operates into major city airports. The
route network consists of Berlin, Bordeaux, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt,
Gerona, Helsinki, Jerez, La Rochelle, Lyon, Marseille, Milan, Montpellier, Murcia, Paris,
Poitiers, Toulouse and Vienna. The airline also operates winter services to
Chamberry and Geneva. All buzz aircraft are operated by KLM uk
in buzz colours, but use 'UK' flight numbers. buzz aircraft are painted in
an eye-catching scheme consisting of a yellow fuselage, purple engines and
a tail consisting of a sunflower shape. buzz carried its one millionth
passenger on November 24, 2000.

CommentsFirstly, I flew on 4/02/02 on UK2301! Thankfully my trip wasn't nearly as scary as the last persons!
Apart from 2hrs delay each way (Milan's notorious fog)the flights were good, not excellent, but what was expected when you have only paid £120 return. The cabin crew had just recieved new stock/sales equipment for sales (a handheld device) and as a result they were slow in getting through the cabin. Buzz were friendly and informaive at all times though (even the pilot informing us we were 23rd of 49 planes accross Europe waiting to depart to Milan Linate)
The BAE 146 that covered the return flight was an interesting plane to fly on, seemed very fast on the runway. Overall I was pleased but still feel GO are more professional as are Easyjet, but they charge more, that's the tradeoff.

CommentsThe Baggage conveyor belt at Schipol had been out of commission all day on 3-Jun-02: yet we were not informed about this when we tok the final flight to Heathrow.
Heathrow told us which conveyor belt our luggage would be coming up at!!! and it was over 30 minutes before KLM admitted any error and handed out forms for loss of baggage.
There was only a 2 man band at the desk to hand the claim forms in at and we were assured we would be contacted. and everything would be resolved. Yet over 84 hours later we have heared nothing from KLM. WE have had to make all the calls and a recorded message just says they will get back!!!! ( somer hope)
Your communications need upgrading all round and you need to be more honest with your passengers.

KLM apologises for the inconvenience caused to customers due to undelivered baggage as a result of a breakdown in Amsterdam Airport Schiphol’s baggage handling system on 4 June 2002.
All passengers should have received a Property Irregularity Report (PIR). Kindly keep this safely, together with your flight ticket, as it represents confirmation of a loss report having been made upon arrival. The search for your luggage commences immediately by computerised baggage tracing.
We are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and have employed extra staff in order to do so. However, due to the sheer numbers of passengers affected we are unable to answer all telephone enquiries. We strongly advise any passengers who had luggage locator numbers issued to them at the lost luggage desk to log on to www.klm.com where you can access our Baggage Tracer system.
When baggage arrives at its destination airport we will contact customers by telephone to arrange delivery (subject to customs clearance). However, due to the large number of bags arriving in the airports it will take some time to get the bags cleared by Customs & Excise, and forwarded to the couriers for delivery.
Again, we would like to apologise for the inconvenience this has caused but we hope our passengers understand that the fault does not lie with KLM.
Please accept our assurance that every effort is being made to deliver all baggage as soon as possible.

CommentsMy colleague and I were on Buzz UK2301 Milan - Stanstead 16/11/01 when the cabin suffered rapid decompression at 27000 ft, and filled with acrid fumes. The pilot descended VERY rapidly in order to enable us to breathe, as the emergency Oxygen masks were not working. I understand that one of the cabin pressurisation systems failed/caught fire. It was a somewhat disturbing experience for passengers and has damaged my hearing (hopefully temporarily). However just before this happened I had a very nice sandwich. The next day my brother caught the same 737 (Buzz only have two)to Fankfurt. It was restricted to 14000 ft altitude. Shouldn't it have been taken out of service until the problem was fixed???
However just before the depressurisation occurred happened I had a very nice sandwich. We got out of it alive and so I will give Buzz a Fair rating.
