Monarch Airlines was founded on 1st June 1967. In February and April 1968 Monarch took delivery of their first two aircraft, two Bristol Britannia 312's, from Caledonian Airways based at Gatwick. The first revenue service took off bound for Madrid on 5th April 1968 wearing the airlines distinctive yellow and black livery. In 1971 Monarch took delivery of its first jet aircraft, the Boeing 720B. In 1974 Monarch had to lease two BAC-1-11 jets because of passenger demands. The BAC-1-11 fleet grew to 4 aircraft and the last one was retired in October 1985. Monarch placed an order for two brand new 737-200 aircraft early in 1980. The 130 seaters came into service a year later initially being based at West Berlin. A major step forward for Monarch was taken when they ordered four Boeing 757's. Monarch was the third airline in the world to order this type of aircraft. 757 operations commenced on 22nd March 1983. Monarch also introduced a new look that year which attracted even more passengers. By 1988 Monarch operated a modern jet fleet, this was also the year when they ordered the A300-600R for use on high density routes. 1993 saw the introduction of four Airbus A320 aircraft for use on European and near Eastern routes. In April 1997 Monarch introduced the Airbus A321-100 aircraft. Two more A321 aircraft joined the Monarch fleet in March and April 1999. In spring 1999 Monarch received its first two A330-200 aircraft configured in two classes.

Monarch Airlines have brilliant staff who are always friendly. Every time I have been on holiday I have akways flown on Monarch Airlines. I flew Birmingaham to Tenerife In April 2001. My flight was ran on a Airbus A321. The aircraft was very comortable. Value for money is very good. You get a very nice meal onboard. They are a superb Airline!

Monarch personal is very good, however the charter logic destroys my goo impression. I've flown from Madrid to Male in a 757 and the seats whore awful to say at least... very low space for an above average weight person like myself. Take my advice for flights longer than 4 hours never fly in a charter company like Monarch. P.S. food is awful, really discusting. please take notice on TAP or ALITAIA for food

We have just returned from Lanzarote on G-MONS. The flight, crew and professionalism were second to none. Our last 3 flights prior to this were with BA and each time I bothered to write and complain. Trouble is they never listen. No wonder they are going down! Long live Monarch. You set the standard for your entire industry.

Brilliant airline . Have been all over with them ( B757/A321/A320/A300/A330 ) Very professional and friendly service and unlike most charter airlines of today , they don't charge you £10 more for a meal . The aircraft are clean and modern . You just cannot fault them .

I flew with Monarch to Cuba, well we all make mistakes don't we! I had tried to pay for an upgrade to the Premium cabin when booking and at frequent intervals before the flight was due, with the holiday company and with Monarch direct, including at the booking in desk at the airport, all to no avail. Imagine how I felt when sitting crammed in to the space allotted to "normal" customers, and found out that there were at least eight empty seats in Premium and they still would not sell them

I flew the last summer from luton to Alicante. Like spanish, I can say, that I'm grateful to have spanish cabin crew during the flight, if you are flying to Spain, I think that you need staff, who speak a fluent spanish. It's a good idea for the service. Others airlines haven't got this sort of cabin crew.
